Video: Gabriel Wibmer Goes Freeracing on his Local Trails

In challenging times, 18-year-old Gabriel Wibmer doesn't let the ceiling come and crash down on him. Instead, he grabs his downhill bike, mounts it on his quad and heads out to ride his home trail, but with a Freeride approach. Surrounded by peaceful mountains, the young East Tyrolean really steps on the gas and pushes the limits to deliver another action-packed video. The clip reaches its climax with a backflip, for which Gabriel uses a tree as a launch pad.

bigquotesThe highlight of the video was definitely the tree backflip. It was pretty cool, especially because we didn't know in advance whether it would work out with the downhill bike. We were really surprised how well it actually went. We needed about 25 attempts, which is pretty little. It didn’t feel right from the beginning to ride against a tree and pull a flip, but after a few attempts, it looked like a backflip and felt like one. I had one or two crashes, but nothing serious and it’s always fun to have something like that on camera.Gabriel Wibmer

Gabriel enjoyed the time on his big bike and is stoked about filming on his local trail:

bigquotesOverall, I wanted to make a video on my home trail for a long time already and I think in the current time, it was the perfect opportunity. It was just amazing to go out into nature, have fun on the bike and do some cool filming.

@Mtmw: Thanks, much needed that chuckle was.

@Curse-of-the-foot-long-sub: Wibner is not among the 700 most popular surnames in Austria, so the chances that they're all related are pretty high.
  • 1 0
@Curse-of-the-foot-long-sub: Yes they are. They're all from the same village and Gabriel is Fabio's cousin.

Sick grass gaps. But unfortunately another swamp rock gospel sound track. Getting so old now.

Nice uplift quad, only problem is how to get back up to get the quad for an other run?
E- rollerskates?

They just get a new quad each time. They just leave them up there, it's a quad graveyard. Rumor has it, something like 58 quads up there... Just rusting...

@Dmaxwell: Don't worry, I sold them already. It's my new day job.

My favorite part is the part at the end where he sits in the lawn chair and thinks "wait, where's my quad?"

We must only be months away from autonomous quads that drive themselves back down and meet you at the bottom. Somebody introduce Elon to mountain biking - we need this.

Just take the brake off, put it in neutral, and let gravity do its thing.
  • 1 0
@Auto-XFil: racing it down could be half the fun.

@Dmaxwell: In Trumps voice: "So sad"

Thank you. I've seen this in a lot of videos - using some vehicle to get to the top and then shred down - it drives me crazy haha

Young DH kids: "Woah, creative downhill riding!"

 "Freeracing?' Really now...

Revolutionary! It's time to tear down those silly old categories in cycling. Get read for some downchill riding, cyclocruising, freeracing and my favorite, flowtrolling, in 2021.

 @Lankycrank: True WAKI comment.

I have to agree, in this edit he's not racing against anyone, neither against a clock. It's the good old "Freeriding". No need to invent new names for something that already exists.

That said, amazing video and insane riding! I love freeride!

Bless the bike for long reach so he didn't hit stem in first huck

That backflip off the tree was next level!
  • 4 0
He still has to pedal back up to retrieve the quad!

 Tree. Back. Flip. Okaaayyyy

He should race Hardline, it would be sick!

A kid with his skillset could surely get away with a single crown bike if not for that house to flat, eh? Ha, nice riding kid, and way to lead by example, BMX knuckleheads take note of the full face and neck protection with nary any concrete or asphalt involved.

 Those manuals were amazing.
