Video: Silver Mountain Bike Park Race Series #3 Recap

Despite smoking hot temps, we had a bunch of happy faces and fast times. Ten gallons of water and a cooler full of popsicles in the shade kept everyone cool while they waited for their start time. A finish area full of world cup horns and cow bells kept the energy up at the bottom and a mother moose with a calf kept it interesting in the middle!

Our courses for SRS#3 consisted of two of our oldest routes on the bottom half of the mountain, featuring a mix of high speed flow, jump line and dusty rooty sections. The Cat 3 and 2 riders started off on Afternoon Delight, which was loaded with fellow racers cheering on their friends and even a couple of low hanging moons. Cat 1 and Pro were treated to Spooky Woods, Wide Open and Manchild. This route starts off loose, rooty and technical, moves to a high speed flow trail and then into the jump line on Manchild.

Once the dust settled, Northern Peaks Alliance posted results and handed the mic to Sean Murphy for some awards and prizes. Sean handed out a pile of great prizes from The Bike Hub, Smith Optics, Reel Cameras, Dakine, 661 and Wildcat Pizza. There are a lot of fresh racers in this series and the women’s categories are really starting to fill up. The Pro Men’s field had the most competition though and Kent Billingsley managed to walk away with his third win of the season, followed by Matt Chynoweth and Justin Covey.

SRS#4 is on August 3rd and registration is open now! We will be opening a new tech trail, Frankenbeans, this Friday so come check it out. Our next race will be held in the Chair 3 Zone so don’t be surprised if you see Frankenbeans on the course list. Early registration is open until August 1st, but you can always sign up the day of. It’s only $40 to buy a lift ticket and register to race if you pre-register by the deadline.
