The official Red Bull Rampage build team -- onsite for weeks ahead of the event installing a few select features and handling some of the bigger build projects -- has officially handed the shovels over to the athletes themselves. Each rider is scouting their own line according to their individual skills and style, and the routes taking shape are looking super gnarly.
In the video above, builder and judge Randy Spangler explains the course build process, while Andreu Lacondeguy and Mads Haugen start guinea-pigging lines and kick off the sunset sessions on the step-up.
This to me answers the question of whether too many man-made features are being added to Rampage. The athletes like it, and they think it's necessary for progression. Great job to the build crew!
The whips and jumps are cool and all, but the technical riding skill, flow and panache (I think it is called 'steeze') to get to the point where they wow the masses... That's what I like to watch.
These words are too true
