NBC’s coverage of Red Bull Rampage, the marquee freeride mountain biking event that seeks to determine the best overall rider in the world, will air today, Saturday, December 21, at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 pm PT.
Rampage, part of the Red Bull Signature Series, features 25 daring mountain bikers who blow the doors off what is possible on two wheels, unleashing some of the biggest moments the sport has ever seen. Presented by Casio G'zOne Commando 4G LTE and brought to you in partnership with Dodge Dart, GoPro, the Utah Sports Commission, Specialized and Oakley, this is a unique contest that combines skills from downhill freeride, slopestyle, dirt jumping and racing.
Viewers will witness a barrage of amazing moments, with jaw-dropping backflips, including one over a treacherous 73-foot canyon gap, no-handers and courageous runs from all the participants.
It can be edited by a bunch of blind goons that have never touched a bike. It still won't ruin the insanity that went down. So hyped that a large audience will see this.
I will tune in again even though I saw it. Everyone should. As much as the cut up network edit kind if sucks, having a network like NBC supporting contests like this and joyride is only a positive thing for the sport. I'll watch to simply support what they are doing.
sino- that's what he was called in the movie. When Howard worked for WNBC he was actually referred to as Pig Virus. Sorry, I'm just a massive fan of his, haha. Oh and the NBC Rampage wasn't too terrible... they should run it like an actual contest by showing all the runs and skipping the wait time in between but... whatever, it was tight. The multiple angles were great for the most part, aside from Logan's crash.
Letting the NBC (or any large news group) do commentary on Extreme sports is like getting my mother, who knows just as little about MTB, narrate the whole event. Hell, she probably could still do a better job.
You'd think, with as much money as they've invested in airing this, they would have gotten someone entertaining and reputable in the MTB world... Like Rob Warner.
The NBC commentary cant really be any worse than the commentary at the event. It was so hilariously awful that they were even being heckled by the crowd.
Get Warner on it fast!
Loving all these comments from 15+ hours ago about how awful the commentary is on a show that just came on the air thirty minutes ago. I don't think its too bad, a lot of extra relevant info that they've stuck in like rider commentaries and interviews and Q&A segments about bikes and equipment. Its definitely a good broadcast in my opinion.
I thought the editing and commentary was surprisingly good. Or at least it was on average with most high budget sports broadcasts. They managed to put together something that entertained me and also seemed good for people who don't know what freeride is.
It's mostly in reference to last year's broadcast, which was utterly horrible. Masakela 'massakurred' (my own term for the awful bro-isms that Sal throws in) everything in the broadcast, watering our beloved Rampage down for mainstream consumption. He wasn't even at the actual event, which made his commentary even that much worse. And this years was little better with the explaining and the idiot baby talk... Anyone watching Rampage isn't listening or watching for an explanation or definition of 'what freeride is'. We're not in attendance or tuning in to hear some mountain biking philosophy from the announcers. We love Rampage for what it is: legends (or future legends) hucking massive shit. Commentary is for football and soccer to make it interesting.
I also thought it wasn't too bad and was nice to see the interviews. In the end it's just great to see our sport on a major network, it will all help to raise the profile and with that sponsorship, trail awareness, funding and on and on...
But yeah... Why don't they get Tippie, that would kick it up a notch.
I agree, it definitely raises the profile of MTB and brings more people in, but maybe having such a false, nonsensical approach to announcing isn't the way to do it... Besides, I'd really like to see one of our own legends, employed announcing the sport they know so well... Like Tippie! If anyone deserves it, it's him.
I thought maybe I'd missed something. Maybe they where going to let them finish run 2 or something. The wording on this title sucks but if its on NBC most people wont know any better.
PB has gotten a little goofy with crappy product picks, no user reviews on companies that dont advertise with them and bad titles. i find myself over at vitalmtb more and more these days
Well, previous years I would say the broadcasting has sucked! But, this year I really think they did an awesome job, good coverage an even throwing in the P.O.V's in there run, really gave viewers an insite to what the riders see, while there ridin, all in all great coverage this year, we will see what next year brings!!!!!!!
Andreu Lacondeguy should at least podiumed. No he didn't hit the canyon gap or trick the oakley sender bu the had more tricks in his run than anybody else.
Recovering from a 2 keg party that my local bike shop held last night ! Thanks Marty's mountain cycle !!! Perfect timing on the couch chilling with Rampage !!
wtf jeopardy and swimming?? wtf only on NBC SPORTS!! looks like I GOT ROBBED!!! y didn't they just play it on the regular NBC channel? pretty sure they would of gotten better ratings then with whats on there now!
Scratched my head when i saw that.... WTF... I was like, man I haven't heard crap about a new Rampage event since Strait, Zink, Kelly stomped it at the last one which was only a few months back.
Straits win is over rated just because he hit the sender he won his line wasnt even that technical. Kelly and andreau got robbed big time Kyle and zinc are over rated neither do much throughout the year and then do rampage and because they hit the sponsored gaps or drops they get high marks. McCalls all natural 70ft step down was so much more impressive by far but because it wasnt on the Oakley sender he got marked down. Redbull need to buck up there ideas and make it about the riding not the sponsors
Lecongdeguy's line was so much better and so was kellys. Ok will admit straits line what rad but McCalls line was all natural and to me thats what big mountain riding is all about
Straits line was mostly natural and super tech. Lacondguys second run didn't count sadly or we might be having a different conversation. The right man won.
