As tight as that would be, I think it's pretty obvious Semenuk could be in really any video project he wants, so the fact that he's putting out this stuff and not Life Behind Bars probably means he's just happier doing this. I say let the man live.
@JoseBravo: and where did they get that car. La la la la....la la la la. I would love to see Life Behind Bars comeback. Especially now that Brandon pretty much has more filming experience
As much as i like that Redbull series, his new "strategy" works for me. Very selective comp joined and strategically released video/part. It creates a lot of mystique towards him, Also seing new tricks/combo for the first time on a well crafted video is so much better. That "ET nose whellie/bonk" ant that "Double click table" never seen that before.
Of course, but this was a let down for me. This video could have been from 5+ years ago. The game has been moved on by the current breed of slopestylers. Slow mo of tricks BMXers have been pulling for 15 years with nice scenery is ok, but hardly ranks as cutting edge. I get that he likes nose bonks too. Cool.
@EarIysport: Does it matter? Timeless tricks are just that; timeless. Great cinematography, obviously still great riding that none of us could even imagine doing. Semenuk is still the GOAT, whether this edit had game-changing moves or not.
I don’t know man I love Brandon’s videos like everyone else n everything but I really miss him in the competitions as well. I wonder what he would do compare to guys like Dawid Godziek n Emil Johansson
and let's not forget Rheeder! He hasn't competed in what feels like forever. Not sure if he still wants to push himself to that limit anymore. I'd sure love to see!
well unlike Dawid Godziek he would actually land on his pedals. If i was a judge I would give that 360 1 handed table all the points and sloppy twisters non but thats not how its done. If i had to guess I would say those contests pay the bills for most riders and Brandon gets paid enough and won enough to pursue his own goals. Those slope style contest don't look like they would be any fun to be a part of.
This may be the obvious statement for the day, but I recall somewhere him saying that he doesn't want to compete much and that he enjoys more producing edits like this. If I had to guess, I'd say it's for the same reasons mentioned by @theredbike
i dont think he likes competing anymore because he puts too much pressure on himself to be flawless in his runs. He was at the point where he would miss a barspin in a combo and just not try the rest of his run. I would love to see him and Rheeder battle it out again, but it will never happen.
@gouty: Everyone gets upset when i call out riders for slipping pedals and landing sloppy but still trying to claim world firsts but its the work ethic to take the time to land things properly and constantly that really separates riders like Semenuk. To me freestyle is more about the creative interpretation of the environment and to me spinning as hard as you can off of a dozen box jumps in a row doesn't do that for me. I want to see more Semenuk too but I'm actually pretty stoked he's putting his time into this stuff rather than contests.
@rhaddad87: Maybe pushing himself to the limit emotionally because of the pressure, but there's no doubt he "pushes the limit" in terms of riding difficulty more in his videos than in contests. He has also mentioned that in contests you have to do tricks that add up to get you the best score, not necessarily the coolest tricks or tricks that he wants to be doing. I think stepping away from comp was a good way for him to focus on progression in his own way without the pressure of winning on his shoulders, and we're all blessed with this kind of stuff because of it.
that middle song, sounds like Shana Halligan, Great clip! I can imagine all the work for what seems too short for us, Keep em coming! Soundtrack credits tho,,, definitely going to be checking out some Orville Peck. Thanks!
LOL'D, keep your head up. I'm extremely bad, and I've been doing it for 27 years. No point comparing yourself to other people. I did weight lifting for eleven years, you really have to just be happy with yourself at the end of the day in my opinion. You being happy with yourself comes from within.
i agree. and he also has some racecraft from rally racing and of course when he was a tween racing xc.
i would love to see him race the canadian open at crankworx just once.
he is faaast.
blow off everything that week and just race the can open....hmmmmmmmm.
dollars to donuts, i have a feeling he'd be top 10.....not world cups, just the track on his home hill.
and i do think he could beat some wc dh full time factory racers on his 'home track'
... his 'will' and determination is off the charts...
Semenuk is like mountain bikes version of the Matrix. Nobody has more fluid motion on 2 wheels than Brandon. Lots of amazing riders, but dude is top of the chain
Love watching Semenuk ride! Doesn’t matter if he’s on his slope bike, DH or DJ, he’s just so talented with everything he rides Those jumps through the forest looked sick! It’s like they were made of cement
How? I'm sorry but I don't get Semenuk anymore. Most of this video seems his equivalent of the straight air. Go watch Rheeder's part on Return to Earth, please. He has left BS in the dust as far as I can see.
Mate, as someone with a huge influence on the sport, if you're coming all the way out to ride and film in NZ, why not hit up the local clubs and spend a few hours riding with some of the locals?
It'd be a good thing for the sport to have some kids see one of the guys they look up to on the internets in the flesh and see that you're just another guy having a good time riding a bike.
*disclaimer: Maybe you did, I don't know. But given there's no video about it, I'll assume you didn't. Get your people to call my people, we'll make it happen.
All the DJ bike footage was filmed at the upcoming Bike Glendhu park outside of Wanaka. Rest was Dunedin and Queenstown. Had the privilege of watching him ride at Bike Glendhu, I was in awe of his ability!
