Gwin looks EXACTLY like he did on trek. His bike set up and position on the bike are perfect. The guy is so strong, his position never wavers. Just pin point accuracy. It's amazing to watch. Humble guy. Maybe the best we've seen in terms of holding a line at real speed. Hill can do it but for me he's not as consistent. I think Gwin is back and I'm not sure he can be stopped.
  • 33 1
My thoughts exactly, so much composure on the bike - like a tracking missile!

 I couldn't have put it better !

yes go gwin! Really hope back to form...we will find out next few stops....redbull says to watch for him at stop 3..wich is Leogang...! Back to gwinning....
  • 4 3
Couldn't agree more. I ve been waiting since 2011 to see who is the greatest and most skilled rider for me in modern-downhill world - Gwin or Hill? Unfortunately getting used to the bike and injuries for both of them definitely dont help me with the answer. Grrr Still waiting!
  • 6 1
I agree. I think Rob was right that his stiffer suspension setup was an advantage. So many of the other riders were getting bucked off their bikes and generally unable to keep their balance. I would've liked to see how Gee would have handled the track with a relatively more supple setup.

Humble? There's a Red Bull video of him bragging and calling himself the best rider in the world. That isn't humble.
  • 33 1
@src248 he said he was the best rider in the world at the time based off of standings. And at that point in time he was. Dont leave stuff out.
  • 22 1
Give us a race with stevie smith, sam hill and gwin in it
  • 5 3
It's like Angels carried him in between the first and second splits! Awesome job Gwinny!
  • 11 1
Ya like dbiker said... It was in the video and he said it was based off standings. And plus he was asked if he was the fastest in the world it's not like he said it out of the blue in a bragging fashion. If you win 2 back to back titles, then you are the fastest in the world.. My god the people that hate on gwin are always half retarded.

Aaron Gwin. Putting the 'Murica back on the map of mountain biking.
  • 2 1
It was back on the map last season bud. He got second overall.

I thinks it fair to say that only getting to see the last 20 riders on the live feed is a disappointment , proof today in not seeing the best run of the day. however its great to have Rob and Claudio on the commentary , looking forward to Fort William now Smile
  • 73 3
I'd say Richard Cunningham wasn't bad on the commentary. Claudio is irreplaceable with his course preview but for me Cunny and Rob = more laugh
  • 8 1
Last couple of years they showed the top 30 men live, think they had to cut it down today they showed recaps of what happened last year for women and men. I still feel the excitement for the women's race, as if it were live.

Superb track today, the French crowd, the noise (especially for Bruni and Ragot), the skill and courage of all involved, most exciting sport bar none. Thanks Red Bull.
  • 7 1
It was really sad, that they cut the amount of riders down and the overall length of the site too. Hope this gets changed back...
  • 12 2
I thought I was the only guy who thinks the coverage was a bit subpar...really hoping that we can go back to live runs of the top 30 and highlights from the rest of the field...(at least)
Also not seeing the winners run is really weird...hoping redbull gets their shit together for the next round
PS Give Warner a beer...wasn't one of his best commentaries but i guess the race didn't help him either

I don't know what you guys are talking about! Did you even watch the footage before making these comments? They showed Gwin's run twice! The footage was awesome, Redbull got the best parts of the track. I really enjoyed it.
  • 7 2
they showed it at the end which was nice but my point is .. when i wait for a live steam of a world cup event then i would like to see at least a good portion of it and not just highlights and last 20 riders .. the stream started with danny and gwin on the podium and i was pissed off that i didnt get to see the live runs of the 2 legends ,
  • 4 3
Lack of full course camera coverage when the pivotal section was in the top half was pretty terrible. So strange constantly speculating as to why he made such a good time when only half the track was broadcast. Really hope they do better next time.
  • 7 1
Agree on the beer, Warner was boring, i think the RedBull was sending him to sleep, @abzillah, we didn't get to see the crucial stage 1 to stage 2 where Gwin made up all the time on everybody else , what happened on that section ? amazing how none of the other 20 top downhillers in the world didn't see a line that Gwin did ?
  • 3 0
They stopped showing the splits at the end to keep up some kind of excitement. No one was gonna touch gwin. Like Val do sol a few years ago
  • 8 1
It's funny when Redbull gives everyone the pedaling section, people start complaining, and when they give the technical section, everyone starts complaining. I still think Redbull did a great job, I saw all of the best parts of the race, and they still showed the top riders plus the top 20. If you want more than what Redbull gave us, then go to the race event and try watching the whole race and good luck with that! : )
  • 2 1
Great quality coverage though - awesome video selection and placement.
  • 10 2
I was pretty frustrated with the coverage tbh. So much 'fill' segments that could and should have been scraped in place of showing the top 30+ protected riders. I'm still grateful for getting coverage, but why should we accept mediocrity? Also, Robs commentary was so sanitized and lacked his usual emotion. I wonder how much of that had to do with having Claudio instead of Cunny, with Red Bull, or with the anti climactic coverage? DH is an exciting spectator sport that to an impartial observer of last night's feed would not have been conveyed.
As a fan of the sport I give the following:
Track - A+
Gwin - A+
Race - B
Coverage - D
Commentary - C
  • 3 0
All of the runs seemed to go from around the first corner, jump, jump and then suddenly a minute and a half in. Not sure why there couldn't be full course coverage, at least to show highlights, crashes and full winning runs. The replay of Gwin's run was a definite disappointment on Redbull's part. Still, great to be able to see it. Had to laugh though at Claudio's course preview, made me think of Grover riding a downhill course, good stuff.
  • 6 0
Little harsh to jump on rob and redbull on the commentary. It wasn't the best, but, frankly, it wasn't the most exciting race, in the sense that Gwin torched everyone. You'd hear rob get excited when someone was in the touch at the first split, but then they'd be 4 seconds down at the second. Just hard to get amped, when the hotseat doesn't change. If gwin was the last guy down and put down that run, thing would have been way different.

I know everyone wants the coverage to be perfect, but I would say its pretty damn good when you have 2.5 hours of coverage and no commercials for free. Watch march madness this year? Commercial every 5 minutes. It sucks.
  • 5 1
Seem to be a few people who are watching DH for the first time... Guy's, the riders overlap on course. The next rider is out of the start gate way before the previous rider has crossed the line. That's why it's impossible to show complete runs live.
  • 1 0
Yeah, but there were some moments when they were waiting for a rider to get to the second split and it was a little bit of dead air...and then we'd hear he had a bit of a crash up top which we didn't see. I didn't mean full live runs, just full course coverage. Overall, like I said, great to be able to see it, especially commercial free.
  • 41 1
I wish we could see Gwin's run through split 1 and 2....

loic bruni was ahead at the first 2 splits despite almost washing out on the first corner ahah
  • 7 8
Yal ain't supposed to talk about results on this replay comments section!
  • 6 2
@peats how do you know? They didnt put the splits for those last few runs?
  • 3 3
Rob even mentioned that bruni was down at end of split 1, even tho didn't show it, o well,
  • 3 3
@dbiker22 they're in the official results (there's another post with em here on PB).

That really is impressive that gwin won AND that loic was ahead including a near crash. Sometimes racing just doesn't make sense.
  • 3 1
@grgsmith @peats the results said bruni was up at the first split which is crazy with his wash out. But at split 2 he was down 3 seconds or so
  • 20 3
claudio is a good course previewer, but a shitty commentator, he's simply to calm to translate the excitment of the race. A top example of proper commentating is Jeff Emig who does the supercross and previously motocross races. Im disapointed he's apparently doing it for the rest of the season.
  • 9 2
when i said this last year, got neg propped! i srsly dont think he should be commentating. tippie and rob would be best thing ever.
  • 2 0
It's his first go. Give him a chance to relax into the role and his natural humour should start to come through. Plus it was probably a difficult race to commentate on. Fantastic track but little suspense to build when every rider is already 5+ seconds back for the majority of the run. How do you keep finding new things to say to describe stuff you didn't see between split 1 and 2?
  • 1 0
 its not his first 1!!
  • 11 2
Neko Mulally must be pissed, last year he went chainless right out of the gate.
Today, after just 15 seconds he destroyed rear wheel and Schwalbe Procore system.
I think he's the first guy to blow up the Procore in the competition Smile
Check out his unlucky run @1:40:15.
  • 4 2
I want to see a closeup pic of that wheel. Guess it isn't quite as strong as that DT Swiss wheel that whats-his-name ran tireless for a run.
  • 8 1
All of you that are complaining about the coverage , how about a thank you to redbull for the FREE live broadcast. Do you guys have any idea how much time and money it costs to give us a free live broadcast ? I have no idea but I'm guessing it's not cheap.
Thank you redbull !!!!
  • 4 0
Dude, I'll drink (a redbull) to that. And no commercials.
  • 3 0
Alot cheaper than in the 90s. Alot of Redbull helmets out there too. Not trying to ad to the bitchfest, but they can probably afford to keep the old format of 30 riders in the live feed. They own the servers, no film to buy/process etc.
  • 11 1
did anyone else notice rob warner seemed a bit off. He definitly did not have his usuall enthusiasm, not sure why.
  • 4 0
I had a feeling that part of it was attributed to the fact that the 20 positions we got to see weren't that.....exciting? I mean, usually he gets crazy fired up because every split is beating the previous times, but with Gwin setting the race winning pace so early on, every split was in the red and it's kinda hard to get Rob Warner-Level-Excited when you're commentating on somebody coming in at 5th or 6th.

Nobody really had a chance to see (or commentate on) some serious excitement because the race was won so early on. It was all just filling in the remaining spots after that.
  • 2 0
Look at what he was wearing...! Studies prove you'll be more outgoing w/certain colors.
He looked either monkish or north korean. Pretty drabby really
  • 9 2
 1. Red Bull doing a great job of coverage despite not having split times for the last to riders (forgivable).
2. Shame on Red Bull for only doing top 5 women and 20 men. Need at least top 10 women and 40 men. Come on!
3. No footage of Blenki?
4. Holy S#$t Mike Jones! Sick riding.
  • 12 2
good to see bryceland still has it! Gwin was outstanding though
  • 11 6
Wow someone on pink bike that isn't talking shit on gwin!! Finally!!!
  • 9 3
So disappointed, last year it was the top ten women and top 30 men now only the last 5 women and 20 men....Next year zero women and top 5 for the men ?!?! Red Bull YOU SUCK !!!!! Remember that we could see the 80 qualified guys when it was freecaster.

when i had a lemonade stand i would hand out free lemonade. my stand didnt last long because someone kept coming for free lemonade and re-selling it at their own stand.
  • 5 1
Wait... uci banned helmetcams ? For which reason ? But they like to use riders footage on their youtube & facebook channel, and also putting some stuff for world cup trailers. And how go-pro still one of the sponsors or why ?
  • 7 2
Amazing how Gwin found the line in the corner before the big bridge at the end. That definetly gained him more than a second advance.
  • 1 0
So much speed there, at least a second shed!
  • 4 1
Generally this track was super sick but for me shame not to see Danny Hart, Aaron Gwin, Blenky, Gee Atherton, Greg Minnaar, Greg Williamson (run with his nasty 42:55 crash), Joe Smith full runs, most of them are protected
  • 4 1
some massive crashes. hope everyone is alright. props to the spectator at 15:44: how he managed to hold the beer, while he crashed is just amazing Big Grin

At live.redbull.tv there’s now in-video navigation, complete with skipping to any particular rider, starts, splits, finishes, even crashes are marked (so be warned if you’d like to avoid spoilers).

Still sad they cut the amounts of riders down by a third and women by half... Frown
  • 1 0
Great start to the season. They should cut all the split times from the commentary. Blame it on Gwin he's about to smash everyone this year.Great more camera's + angles and longer shots Keep up the good work Redbull
  • 5 0
 1:16:44 for Gwin's Run
  • 1 1
Good coverage of the track for a debut....not showing the protected riders run though = fail.....and then missing out the middle section of Gwin's run = double fail.....Gwin, Rat Boy, Bruni, Brosnan, Hill.....top 5 in that order for the year......
  • 2 3
Yeah i thought the whole event on red bull tv was poor. Maybe because some top riders were out, definitely because we are only seeing 20 RIDERS!! And also because no cameras between what turned out to be a crucial part of the course, times wise. Plus i didn't think the course was up to much. Hope it gets better.

Get the RedBullTV app. I then Chromecast that to my TV. Worked flawlessly for me.
  • 1 0
Finally! RedBull.tv apps didn't support Chromecast for live streams last year and it took a week for a recent event to be declassified from "live" status so couldn't even watch the replay on CC. So stoked to see it added now though: pushed it to the big screen from my Android tablet, so good. No interruptions or lag.
