Web series: Come ride with me - Episode 3 / Les Vosges mountain

Have you seen the first two episodes?! Rémy Absalon, Damien Oton and François Bailly Maitre are back with their new web series they came up with during the lockdown "Come ride with me" - inspired by the TV show “Come dine with me”.

This third episode takes place at Rémy Absalon's beautiful riding place in Les Vosges famous mountain.

Episode 3/ Rémy ABSALON’s place – Les Vosges mountain: Famous MTB area, Rémy is attached to his home spot. He welcomed Damien and François in a typical mountain lodge where you can taste the local flavors. Then among all the different kinds of riding spots he has available, he chose to take François and Damien on a terrain everybody loves… LOAM! Shredding good dirt is perfect to end this “Come ride with me” season!

Concept reminder: The concept is simple, one of the riders hosts the others and makes them ride one of the best trails in the region. The main goal is to show people that there is no need to travel too far in order to find a very nice biking destination. Up first was Damien who hosted the team in the Pyrenees, close to Perpignan. François, hosted them in the Jura, close to Geneva (Switzerland), where he now guides riders for his guiding company Jura Sick Guide. Remy showed them his favorite trail in Remiremont, in Les Vosges, where he lives and also manages his enduro camps company Irwego.

bigquotesWe’re all convinced that our spot is the best, but more than that, we are convinced that France is amazing for mountain biking. There are so many great places to ride your bike. As well the diversity is amazing for a quite small country.

So, once the 3 lads rode the trail, they had to give notes about a few criteria like,
- landscape (what is surrounding you on your ride is almost as important as the quality of the trail)
- dirt quality (good dirt loamy, versus sticky clay)
- global quality of the trail, that includes the flow, the trail features, length, diversity,…
- And the extras, like how they have been hosted, including food, drinks,…

But more than everything, it was a good excuse for these 3 friends to ride together during this crazy year with the lack of events. There is nothing better than having a High Five at a bottom of a trail with your best buddies.

Hey Damien, François and Remy next stop, just go to the other side of the hills. Go visit Jey Clementz in Alsace .Same hills, less rain ;-p

About the less rain part I'm not sure! Lac blanc and these places east get rain anytime. Let me know the spots, don't know the area tbh, only lac blanc

While you are there explore the whole region... The trails in the Vosges are pure fun and have a natural character, teach and flow in good balance. Gran Ballon, Guebwiller, Lac Blanc (not bike park), Barr... Too many to name. But it is also worth to cross the border and ride the sister mountains of the black forest, Belchen, Schauinsland, Kandel, Hornisgrinde... You would find more trails than you can ride in 14 days...

I didn't know there were bike trails in Las Vegas

Sick trails in Vegas actually. Bootleg Canyon is super janky gnar, as well as the Cowboy trails. Great winter riding destination. Who woulda thunk

@Nwilkes: The Only TIme i wish the border would be open. Wintertime - explore some cool spots south! Vegas Trails look sweet.

Is early April too early in the spring to ride the Vosges? How persistent is the snow pack?
  • 2 0
Usually April is ok to ride in the Vosges even if some snow patchs remains until early May in some high places at the north side.

Now, with less snow than previous winter we can can ride (already) all the year !

Generally speaking I would say avoid December for the cold and January/February for the snow.
Late march and April are perfect usually as it's still quite fresh (no ticks, not too much water needed, not too many hikers and mtbikers).

Be particularly nice to hikers, lots of the maintenance is done by a local hiking club (CV). Although I live in the Alps now, I really regret the abundance and variety of trails there is in Les Vosges Mountains.

@zede: really agree for March/April ! But I live in Les Vosges, and that 2 last winter February was really "dust".... ride in t-shirt, absolutely strange ! And more trail than before !

Back one day ! You'll like more than before !
