Video: Remy Metailler Follows World Cup Racer Kirk McDowall Down Mackenzie Cruise in Pemberton

Wow, this was one of the best days I have had on a mountain bike. Fun, speed and good times riding this incredible trail!

You guys loved Kirk’s riding so we are back at it! I'm super pumped on how we rode this trail considering it was quiet slippery on some sections.

Kirk McDowall (@kirkmcdowall) is 2 times Canadian Champion of Downhill and was 15th at World Champ this year, which is why he rides so well.

Mackenzie Cruise might be the one of the best lap of Pemberton and after watching this video you 'll probably agree with me if you don't yet. I love the speed, the few gaps, line choices but also the tech part.

Find out more about Mackenzie Cruise on Trailforks.:

If you enjoyed this trail and want to ride it, I advise you to join the Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association: http://porcabikes.com this way you will be able to support trails like this one!

Best day. Trail preview is on Youtube at 8am tomorrow.

What trail should I ride next?

Thanks for watching, see you on the trails or on Youtube

There's one of the only remaining true rebel old-school downhill races on that trail every September called the Mackenzie Cruise that has shuttled up laps followed by a party with beer, tacos and live music! It's put on by P.O.R.C.A. and Chromag.

@islandforlife: keep your eye on www.porcabikes.com for details in the fall. It's a great day for sure!

Every time I watch one of these videos, I think, "why in the f*ck do I live in Hamilton!?"

I wouldn't need a video to think that Sorry couldn't resist. It's terrible out here. Expensive housing. Lots of rain. People cutting down our gondolas. I would not recommend moving here.

Life's short dude, make the move to BC/AB happen.

At least you're in the same country !

@pigman65: well sort of, you are closer to the alps than he is to pemby

Hammertown! It’s all the derelict factories and proximity to a rager of a McMaster party that keeps you from wanting to leave.

@remymetailler: dude, I wanna see you hit the first entry to In'n'out burger's slab! You know, the drop you find first in the right hand side, I couldn't find any footage of it.
I'm suspicious you're one of the few able to hit it.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLZgbjNJtF8&t=19s somewhere in there I do it. To be honest it was one of the easier drop technically, but the main risk is at the bottom. That root is sicking out pretty good and because you land of camber, you may slide grading too much brake. Aim for the left and turn slightly to brake more straight. Make sure you don't lock the wheels. Watch out for the corner at the hand. Gravel on rock = danger.

damn, it srinks in the video! I looked from above and said 'no f*cking way', the landing is like 40° and not very long...

haha, you challenged him, now put his advice to good use (and video so we all can laugh!).

@ismasan: Oof... doesn't look like there's a lot of room to get things together after that drop! And if you don't... I haven't seen it in person, but... what happens if you don't make that corner at the bottom!! Maybe it's just the angle from the video... but the consequences looks very high.

Damn Kirk rips. So much steeze

Every time I watch one of Remy's videos with Kirk, I'm in awe of Kirk's abilities to control his bike and create grip! Then I realize that Remy is usually catching up to Kirk and casually chatting about the trail the whole time. Dude's are seriously skilled riders.

question: Do expert enduro riders like this wear clips? I have been a clip fan for years however it's becoming harder to tell if guys like these, doing riding like this, wear them. I don't know why I am so concerned but some feedback would be awesome!
  • 1 0
Almost everyone who races rides clipped in. Except of course Sam Hill
  • 2 1
Most are on clips, but plenty on flats too. Ride whichever you prefer or both!

Dh racing crowd is about the same.

Don’t forget to unclip in the corners that benefit from it. I started mtb on clips and in the beginning I never took a foot out of a clip unless I needed to put a foot down or bail. Whole other world out there once you get comfortable doing that.

First built in the late 90's. Resurrected by Mr. LOTS with $ from the PVTA in 2015 and a paid touch up with PORCA $ from the Pemberton Enduro in fall of 2017 or spring 2018. Maintained by countless volunteers. All by hand.
