PRESS RELEASE: Renthal

We are pleased to announce the following three new product groups;
- Updated Fatbar, in AluGold or Black Hard Anodised Finish
- Updated Fatbar Lite, in AluGold or Black Hard Anodised Finish
- Fatbar 35 and Fatbar Lite 35 in Black Hard Anodised Finish

Fatbar

This updated version of the Fatbar has undergone a full structural re-design. In keeping with the demand for wider, gravity oriented handlebars, we have increased the width to 800mm. Our proven high grade 7050 T6 aluminium, variable gauge, taper wall tubing is the key ingredient of the Fatbar. With careful and efficient use of material, we have massively reduced the weight to a trail-worthy 315g. At the same time, performance levels retain the same legendary DH strength and durability and match the flex characteristics of the original Fatbar.

The new Fatbar is available in our market-leading choice of rise options; 10, 20 30 and 40mm. And we have now added a colour option; either the iconic Renthal AluGold hard anodised or the all-new black hard anodised finish.

Fatbar Lite

With efficient use of high grade 7050 T6, variable gauge, taper wall tubing aluminium, we have kept the same market-leading weight of 270g. The new Fatbar Lite achieves all of this whilst retaining the same high level of strength and durability and matching the flex characteristics of the original Fatbar Lite.

@danmartel: damn thing looks just like a renthal

AluGold: The universally loved color that matches nothing.
  • + 19
 It matches my Thomson dropper.
  • + 42
Or does it match EVERYTHING ?
  • + 19
@DARKSTAR63: Very glad to see these in black. The gold just never seemed to look good on any bike to me. Screamed more of 'look at my renthal bars!" than just being a nice set of kit.
  • + 4
@Poulsbojohnny:I know that you are not alone, so good for them. I just like the tone and color, I think they look good on most bikes. I don't mind when bikes or parts scream things it can be part of the fun. Renthal makes a quality product, and the color is surely a nice identifier for them.
  • + 5
 It matches my shaft.
  • + 17
 matches nothing....but compliments everything.
  • + 5
@fartymarty: Not for long. What are you going to do when you get tired of warrantying the Thompson?
  • + 8
Just my opinion but the Renthal graphics look like they are stuck in the late 90's early 00's
  • + 4
keep in mind they come from a motocross background, so this color matches with their sprockets, chains, and handlebar pads. looks great when everything gets matched together
  • + 1
AluGold is the new Black Hard Anodized
  • + 1
Matches the stantions on manitou circus experts
  • + 0
 @DARKSTAR63: Mind = blown
  • + 1
@tkrug: No idea, I have just notice more rotational play in mune but its 27.2 so I don't have many other options.
  • + 44
So the narrower bars, which naturally have less material and are 45 grams lighter, are designated as "Lite"? Wouldn't that be like Diet Coke just being Coke in an 8 ounce can?
  • - 2
Tell me how you make something lighter without using less material to do so?
  • + 52
 @gingy-0: Fill it with helium
  • + 19
@gingy-0: You change the ingredient materials, much like Coca-Cola do, to make Diet Coke.
So following this format, Renthal would have to make the Lite bar the same size/dimensions but reduce the weight in order to justify the "lite" name. I suggest tin foil wrapped around some cardboard tubing baked at 180degC for 45mins.
  • + 14
@gingy-0: sure, but the "Lite" bar is 40mm shorter. By this logic, bike manufacturers could have skipped carbon and just made their aluminum frames in XS as their light option.
  • + 4
 @gingy-0: different materials
  • + 4
@gingy-0: Put it on the moon or any other place in the universe where the gravity is less than on earth

I think it is the same thing RF does with the 35 Next (780?), 35 Next R (800) and 35 Sixc new bars (820).
It is actually the same bar design.
Next are lighter and stiffer. Sixc are heavier and flex more.
  • + 19
@RedRedRe: The NEXT / NEXT R / SIXC bar are all different designs with different center width, taper and handle lengths, as well as layup and wall thickness changes. While all bars have to pass the same industry EN testing requirement we have many internal test developed around the criteria the bar is designed for; NEXT = xc/trail, NEXT R = aggressive trail/AM/enduro, SIXC = DH.
  • + 1
@mmmitch: I’ll allow it. Carry on.
  • + 0
@raceface: Yea, but all of your carbon bits break easily. I've seen so many SixC bars break, don't even get started on the Next SL cranks. I used to run all your carbon parts, but now I've experience too many issues with your parts and service for that matter. The last set of Next SL G4 cranks I had warrantied took forever and you guys made me jump through hoops over it. The Turbine cranks aren't bad, but with all of my issues with your product and lackluster service, I'm giving my money to Hope and Renthal.
  • + 1
@Rubberelli: I don't think the name lite implies that it must be made of a different material, it seems reasonable that the "lite" handlebar would be the less robust smaller version to save weight.

And they also make the Fatbar Carbon Lite so what the hell are you asking for?
  • + 2
 @gingy-0: I'm just glad Miller Lite Isn't in a 10oz can!
  • + 1
Are these lite bars durable enough for Enduro or is it made for chill single track riding? That's what I want to know. The bars are definitely thinner.
  • + 30
I'm looking for 28.99mm bars. Thanks.
  • + 33
Finally, someone who really pushes the progression of the sport. Stick your handlebar in your bottom bracket and show me what you can do on the slopestyle course.
  • + 3
 @vinay: mega pegs
  • + 20
Black Renthal bars? What kind of sorcery is this?
  • + 19
 Press fit bar end plugs
  • + 4
 Just need a bigger hammer.

  • + 0
 Quit trying so hard
  • + 9
Does this mean my old Renthal bars are obsolete??? I guess i need some new bars now...
  • + 9
 Longer, lower, taperered.
  • + 6
When all the engineers and thee boss are on vacation and marketing team goes nuts
  • + 5
 Wow, aluminum handlebars!
  • + 5
Its ok, beauty is on the inside.
  • + 4
Love renthal bars, great feel and control.
  • + 0
Haha, so is absolutely nothing changed on the aluminum Fatbar, but they're calling it new? I bought these bars over 2 years ago. Same 800mm width, 40mm rise. Can't tell if they actually reduced weight but if they did, it wouldn't be enough to matter.
  • + 5
So the 2016 Fatbar 35 800mm width is listed at 305g and the "new" one is 315g. So it gained 10 grams but let's talk about how it got lighter..
  • + 12
If I’m reading it correctly what’s new is the 31.8 bar in 800. Until now they only offered the 35 fat bar in that width.
  • + 1
@solidautomech: Oh that makes more sense now.
  • + 2
At last 760 ,now go and make them carbon and with a little more back sweep please ,and nice one to make them black to give options to people.
  • + 3
No more back sweep please. That's the best part of the bar design and why they are the go to for DH bars.
  • + 2
They aren’t lower, longer and slacker, so WHY EVEN MAKE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE! Lol
  • + 19
 Turn them upside down.
  • + 3
but how much up and backsweep?
  • + 2
Hopefully the same as the last model.
  • + 1
@DamianNZ: Totally agree, that's why they are the go to for DH riders. More back sweep is worse for control in technical terrain.
  • + 3
They really raised the bar by going black.
  • + 2
 Yyhhu????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????hhhhhha
  • + 2
Once you go black...you know the rest
  • + 1
Are these manufactured in the UK?

I like the black colour, my bike only has black components, and was holding back on buying some Rental bars because of the colour.
  • + 0
Nope - far eastern built trading off UK brand heritage.
  • + 1
@davechopoptions: Thanks, that was what I was expecting.
  • + 1
I'm pretty sure that their aluminium bars are UK made, but the carbon ones are manufactured in Asia.
  • + 1
@mwallborg: I had read that previously. I remember finding amusing that Renthal say you can't make carbon bars in the UK and Hope say you can't make aluminium bars in the UK...
  • + 2
Alugold will match my XT cranks axle
  • + 1
Does the aluminum version have that dampening quality that some carbon bars have?
  • + 2
I've seen reviews go both ways when testing it side-by-side. Some euro reviewer found the carbon ones took the edge off the jarring stuff, after back-to-back runs. The NSMB guy said that the carbon renthals didn't feel as comfortable as the alloy version. Shrug.
  • + 1
Hey Renthal - maybe you should fix your website so people could order the FB 35 in HA Black. Option not available error.
  • - 2
315g is a massive weight saving? What the hell did the old ones weigh, and why were they so expensive if they're so heavy? What are people paying for, the name or the ugly colour?

Also... I thought the colour was meant to match non kashima stanchions?
  • + 1
Gold fatbar35 for sell, 20 mm rise..........or trade for new black fatbar35, I won’t be going back
  • + 1
 site still not updated lol
  • + 0
Nothing is said about the angles? I'm assuming they're the same?? I love the minimal back sweep.
  • + 1
Even though they're long & hard, bars just don't excite me.
  • - 1
My fatboy Carbon snapped after 6 weeks. Renthal sent me a hush package lol. ..
  • + 31
didnt hush you up much did it? lol...
  • + 1
 @Racer951:
Hahaha, you bar-steward.
  • + 1
 still love the gold one.
  • + 0
Are they still a horrible shape?
  • + 1
I just checked the packaging and it doesn't list "horrible shape" as a feature so i'm guessing you should be ok.
