Formula and Ancillotti Join Forces in 2017

The partnership between Formula and Ancillotti has been going on for many years. A collaboration which has united two Italian brands that have left a mark in the history of gravity disciplines. In 2017, Formula and Ancillotti will be together on the race track to continue to pursue an ambitious goal: redefine gravity racing.

The Ancillotti team will once again be heavily involved in enduro racing, both nationally and internationally. The Team roster in 2017 includes Johannes Von Klebelsberg; a young talented rider that has already won the Italian national downhill title and who scored a sensational 37th place in Mont Sainte Anne at his first ever world cup race in the elite category.

Tomaso Ancillotti (brand owner) said: "We are very proud to be supported by Formula in 2017. Our collaboration started in 1994 and has never stopped since then. Partnering with Formula is like being in a family. With their support we have reached many achievements in the history of our brand. In 2017 we will race a full package with Linea wheels, Selva fork and Cura brakes. We’ve always been involved in product development with Formula, which is why we have an amazing feeling with their products. We’re focused on ‘race oriented’ products and this partnership is very important to us”.

Johannes Von Klebelsberg said: "We are delighted to be working with Formula. They support us from a technical point of view by giving us great help in finding the right set-up. Enduro racing is hard and very tiring, only with a perfectly balanced bike and thanks to great components, and a great team we are going to be able to compete at the highest level. We will give our best and we are super excited to get our wheels back on the race course".

Want. I have never seen that before, thanks for the heads up!

 Stunning!

It says "Pull Shock" on the swing arm. Is this a new iteration of the classic Schwinn Straight 8 / Yeti DH8, from the 90's? IIRC, they used a "pull shock" as well.
  • 5 0
@dukesofhazzard: fraid not, the "pull"just relates to the way the shock is activated by the swing arm pulling the linkage into the shock.
  • 2 0
@pimpin-gimp: Gotchya! Thanks for the clarification.
  • 4 0
Nice! the design looks neat, plus the chrome is so retro, but so nice!
  • 3 0
@dukesofhazzard: it's similar to the pull system of DeVinci, with an added link. It's a single pivot system anyway but given the additional link, they say it'S really sensible, smoother in action than a straight single pivot.

@dukesofhazzard: no worries, they're frigging ridiculous bikes. I rebuilt a Detomaso DHP a few years ago for a mate and had a go on it afterwards, stunning bike to ride, the proprietary shock was sometimes problematic but when running smooth it was immense!

@pimpin-gimp: exactly how i imagined it to be lol
  • 2 0
@pimpin-gimp: looks virtually the same as they did nearly 20 years ago. Always were great.

@cunning-linguist: yeah.... 25 years ago their slogan was "Ancillotti... the future, now!".

dayum thats a cool looking bike ! BUT they should do other color options though. i dont mind the super-polished finish but it kinda makes it look dated tbh. nonetheless a 160mm 29er beast !

@Hunterchek: thanks very much Wink already did that but would rather read it here tup

@pimpin-gimp: Brook Macdonald was riding DH for them back in 2008/2009. It was an impressively light DH bike.

Johannes Von Klebelsberg- taking a break from super villiany to do some biking?

Nice to read few of you know something about Ancillotti, our word needs newbies :-)

Ancillotti is an Italian, artisan business bike maker, that already defined MTB gravity racing in the past, not to mention their Motocross experience during ´70. Junior World Champions with MacDonald and Italian Champions with Johannes Von Klebelsberg, it seems that they had to quit international DH racing for financial reason, choosing Enduro (European races and EWS) in order to pursuit what really matter when you tie a number on your bike: the podium.

Personally, I feel a little sad about this decision, but if you are aiming to the top, you simply can´t race "just to participate" because of lack of sponsors.

Best of luck for this new challenge guys!

what do you mean? I thought they were planning to race world cups? If its EWS only then no interest from me soz

I like how they write an article about themselves but word it like someone else is writing about them, say they're going to "redefine gravity racing" and then say absolutely nothing about how they're going to pull off such a feat.

But they do talk a lot about how great being in business together is going to be for them, tho.

I wish I could be that vague at my job. "Yeah, boss, I'm gonna redefine this company." Then take a break and do nothing.

Give em a break - 2 Italian companies writing a press release in english. It's not going to be perfect.
  • 6 0
They hired some English Speaking copywriter/marketing person for the press release... "redefine gravity racing" come from there... "this will boost interest and sales... this is how it is done here..." and they went "Ok".... There is no press release for the italian market, and I can fully understand the language... But I never read any stupid claims in Italian... Only Formula when they do English version, as it is probably lead by the Formula USA team.
They have been around for a very long time and they both have real "claim to celebrity" status.

Ancillotti only sells bikes in order to have some bread and money to race. It is a small shop. A garage pretty much. All about racing. Doubt they even think "increase sales". They do it for the glory. Formula is a bigger operation, but their focus is the product. However they start understanding todays Anglo consumer and they do care about sales.

@ckcost: ahah italians and english language are not compatible Big Grin

Brook Macdonald won his junior title on Ancillotti. They don't have the best design but that doesn't bother me.

Love their frames but the proprietary shock always put me off. Make a frame that works with a readily available shock and id consider buying one.
  • 1 0
The above mentioned article says that a standard air shock can be installed with an available dedicated link..
  • 2 0
@vic690: that's a very good move by them. Their frames look amazing, and I expect ride well with all that weight down low.

Cheers
  • 2 0
When you buy an Ancillotti you can feel that the best shock for that bike is already installed.
  • 1 0
@blacktea: I don't agree. I rode a Tomaso DHP years ago and it was good but sadly the body cracked. A friend waited months for a replacement. If there was anything else that fitted he could have still been riding.

I wouldn't touch anything with such a key proprietary part. I'm sure that's the same for most people.
  • 1 0
@yetiboyjay: hi, i dont know how is customer care out of Italy but, while i had the Ancillotti, i could call them for any request and they were ready to satisfy the client.
Ancillotti, as someone said before, is a small company but very good and, my opinion, they are not ready for "big numbers".

"redefine gravity racing" - Would be nice to include what that is supposed to mean and how they are going to go about it.
  • 7 0
It means it was written by a marketing guru who has never ridden a bike.
  • 2 1
Yeah and the title sounded like its the first time they collaborate.
  • 1 0
@AlexS1: They have been collaborating since 1994!!
  • 1 0
@RedRedRe: Exactly, its old story but the title led one to think otherwise.

Great bikes though especially the new 29er. Looks all biz.

  • 1 0
@dragonaut: easy to see it's just carbon stickers on the normal alloy frame in this press release:
