 $425 USD to take the course. Pretty steep. I expect class attendance to be very low, possibly intentionally.
As noted by a friend I shared this information with yesterday, you can get a full set of Trail Boss trail building tools for around the same price.
I love that the course exists, I just wish it were more accessible.

 Sure you can get tools and go dig. This course seems aimed at the folks who are already involved in their local scenes. Land managers don't really get anything out of "I've been doing this for years, I know what I'm doing." Instead they want you (your group) to be able to say "we have completed these courses have those certifications, etc" so they can feel comfortable that you're taking appropriate measures with regards to safety, sustainability, etc.

 @sammybikes916: you make a solid point, I would like to see BTCEB offer up some of their funds to help volunteers take this course. Not a lot of people are going to spend that money out of their own pockets only to go beg and plead with the land managers for the permission to do trail work in the Bay Area.

 @Avanwin: that's the truth!

 Where I live we need two other things before this. 1. Rain 2. Land where you can legally build mtb trails.

 I'm hoping for a productive fall season as far as rain goes. The land for legal trails on the other hand... I have zero confidence in finding any of that around here. I will be surprised to see sanctioned trail work days where I live.

 The year started with Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz offering all of their classes in 2021 so that you could become "fully certified" within a year. I joined as a member, signed up for the first 5 classes, and attended them all. Then they went silent...no more classes posted and ignoring emails asking about updates.

The next update is that Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz is now Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship. When they finally get back to talking about classes, they have a "paid" model.

When will the world learn that "premium," "plus," or "pro" paid models don't work for everything? It sucks the life out of the core members who support your organization, platform, or product.

 They should sign up for their own course. They didn't do a great job with sawpit. The second half which they built doesn't live up to what existed.

 Agree, the bandit trails are all so much better than the sanctioned trails.

 A couple classes aren’t going to make you a builder. Go out into the woods and build some stuff. If it sucks, fix it, make it better. Rinse repeat.

 Do they teach how to make BC-style tech trails and how to not make flow trails?

 Why not just educate volunteers?
