Bex Baraona (Ibis Enduro Team) and Chloe Taylor (Privateer/Hunt Wheels) are the first Enduro World Series riders to confirm a positive Covid-19 test. They will be missing the final two rounds of the Enduro World Series in Italy.

bigquotesEarlier this week, Bex Baraona tested positive for Covid-19. She had been experiencing flu like symptoms and extreme fatigue, which prompted her to get tested. She is currently in quarantine with Chloe Taylor, whom she was traveling with, and who has also tested positive.

Bex is in good spirits and feeling better by the day. She will continue to monitor her condition closely and looks forward to making a full recovery. Unfortunately, due to her diagnosis, she will be skipping the final rounds of the 2020 EWS season in Pietra Ligure and Finale Ligure. She is gutted to be missing these races and the opportunity to be with her EWS family.

Robin Wallner, Cole Lucas, and the Ibis Enduro Team support staff have tested negative for Covid-19. They are currently in Finale, in preparation for the race this weekend.

bigquotesI’m gutted to be sitting out of the last 2 EWS races but right now my health and protecting others is more important. 2020 has been a write-off and it is irritating to be sitting out of the only racing that is happening for us but it is out of my hands now that I am positive for COVID-19. I want people to act responsibly and with caution because even after taking all precaution and treating the virus seriously, I’m sitting here in quarantine recovering from it. Good luck to all the racers this weekend, stay safe and be sensible! For more info on my first hand experience contracting COVID-19/displaying symptoms- head over to my instagram (@bex_baraona) over the next few days.Bex Baraona

bigquotesReally gutted to not be able to finish the season after contacting COVID-19. We were the unlucky ones, even after taking every precaution and following local guidelines. It’s no surprise it’s such a global issue after I had mild symptoms and not even a high temperature. I’d urge everyone to take an unwell feeling extremely seriously for the safety of others. It can be a difficult decision to make and whilst out here to race bikes, it can be hard to stop the fun but I am glad we made the right call. Time to recover and get back to full health... Let's hope for better circumstances in 2021.Chloe Taylor

We wish them both a quick recovery.

The Ibis Enduro Team was ranked first after EWS Zermatt with Robin Wallner and Bex Baraona both finising 6th, Cole Lucas finishing 14th and Louisde Margareta Paulin winning the Women Masters category.

They're not. Just like most of them.

@excavator666: "just like most of them."
"Most" cases aren't severe? Possible.. I'm not really big on virology.
Might be better to provide empirical evidence (or any) instead of blanket statements, tho.

No matter. Would just be nice if one thought about the accessory effects. For example: my friend who has cancer (immunocompromised) and a family. Or my mother in law (70s) who helps us take care of our kids.

To be fair I took your comment out of a few possible contexts.
  • 38 21
@ssteve: you don’t have to be big in virology to be able to read numbers, do you?
Take Italy as an example: despite thousands of people testing positive due to continuous testing, most of them are actually either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. The proof is that, since June, at any given moment, we haven’t had more than 50 people in intensive care throughout the whole country. Despite these numbers, people keep freaking out because, somewhere along the way, they got convinced that asymptomatic carriers = Covid cases
  • 19 15
@ghirox85: alright. I like that you started with a subtle insult, based on exactly zero argument against your argument(s).

Not being a scientist doing research in your country may have influenced my ability to have numbers on hand (I /may/ I have other things that are more important), but I guess that's my fault. Yes, I know I can google things. Moving on..

It's really great, that in your country, things are getting better. The argument about symptomatic vs. asymptomatic carriers was far... In fact incredibly far, from anything that I posted, but ok..

If you were to (maybe a bit more carefully this time) read my reply to the original post, you might understand what I was trying to say.
  • 14 4
@ssteve: My apologies if you felt insulted by me saying you don’t need to be an expert to be able to read numbers. And yes, I know, we are all busy... yet we find the time to comment Pinkbike articles.
In any case, excavator666 made a simple statement about the two girls being fine which you contested saying that he has no title to say so. I was simply trying to say that, based on actual numbers, excavator666 is probably correct and expanded on why that is by describing today’s situation in the country I live in. This is why I don’t think my reply was off topic

@ReformedRoadie: Good questions. 50K deaths just to correct. I dont have those numbers on if theu were vaccinated. Even worse if they were I guess. The numbers are getting closer to the flu in survival rate. There is many times more testing going on for covid than flu. That being said, if there was a vaccine, which we all can agree would be good, I wonder what the rate would be as you are absolutely correct, its effectiveness does vary. We had 2 residents die of flu 2 years ago. Weve had 2 over 85 residents get covid and not even a sniffle. So what I am saying is the flu is no joke.

@ridesmoothbro: I didn't think I was debating healthcare topics. Simply referencing a quote and statistics, facts. But your responses make me think you're maybe one of those nurses/people that believes that the Covid death toll in the US is fabricated. Yeah my 92 year old grandmother whom was buried yesterday in South Dakota died from natural causes, she had health issues as many that age do. It probably wasn't Covid that took her life, and I doubt she's reflected in the numbers, however she did test positive for Covid two weeks ago, along with peers in her nursing home in South Dakota. Their nursing home had been covid free for weeks/months. She was put in isolation, and we're being told that there's an asymptomatic nurse that also tested positive in the home. Sturgis was probably lots of fun though. But what do I know.

 @ReformedRoadie:
Damn, your comment really proves how dumb most Americans are...
The American way, blame everything on the President whether he be right or left, blue or red, and moan about shit you dont understand. What so many Americans, United States humans dont understand, is the simple fact of "population."

Take New Zealand - Small Country, Small population, a virus has less effective range of travel and interaction between gathering and groups of individuals, the NZ population is just over 4.8m people - that is literally one of the 50 something states in the USA. So it has been easier to control, by forcing restrictions and stopping the movement or human interaction.

The USA, Large population, Large Country, greater gatherings and groups of people in clustered areas, 320something million people. A virus is more likely to spread quickly due to the human connection and a greater population amount - simple common sense and proven facts.

Oh and another thing, the Corona Virus, Covid-19 or whateved the F@k they call it now is a virus that is constantly changing and getting worse, it adapts to its enviroment and thrives because nothing has been able to stop it, kinda like cancer cells, once they catch onto a source/host/carrier they grow to the point that nothing can stop them. Covid-19 is simply put: "an impossible virus" to control because it is always changing and adapting to its enviroment.

But like most Americans - who don't do their research, moan about their President and live inside a bubble. NEWS FLASH: TRUMP WINS 2020.

Dayumn I wish you Liberals could grow a pair of balls and man the F@k up to reality outside of your leftist echo chambers.

  • 8 2
@SassyTheSasquatch:@SassyTheSasquatch: I don't even know where to begin with your stupidity. Yes the United States is a large country with a large population, 3rd in the world in fact. Yes smaller countries, if putting the right measures in place can more effectively control the Covid-19 virus. Now let's look at China (1st in population by the way) and the spread of the virus there. By all accounts they should be into the tens of millions by now. Don't trust China's reporting? Ok. Let's look at India. Yes they are 2nd in cases, but their population far exceeds the US population and should by all measures be in the tens of millions. Oh wait they are also much poorer than the US and should by all accounts be less adept at controlling the virus. See where I'm going here yet?

Is Covid-19 all Trump's fault? No not by a long shot, but when you have the "leader of the free world" coming on air and saying the director fo the CDC must be confused and must not understand the facts, that could be a problem. If you lived here you would see by a large margin that Trump supporters do not wear mask or do not believe the virus is a serious problem and those evil liberals are the cause of Covid-19. You know it's just a hoax, because the evil liberals caused it in the whole world too. This is the backwards thinking that causes issues.

The fact is the Covid-19 virus is not an "impossible virus". It can be controlled if the citizens of a country pull together instead of apart. Taiwan so close to China by all accounts should be ravaged by the virus. Are they? Nope. It's because they take things like this seriously. It's not a conservative or liberal thing. We in the US have made it that way because our president has made it that way. If we had a president that was an actual leader regardless of personal faults, then we would pull together in a somewhat better fashion than we have now.

Closing in on 6 million cases and over 200,000 deaths is not what I would want to be leading the world in. You know since we are the best at everything.
  • 9 1
@SassyTheSasquatch: So is Australia not similar in the fact that population is concentrated in cities, primarily on the coasts, with large expanses of unpopulated areas in the iterior?
Do they not have "large gatherings and groups of people in clustered areas?"

On a percentage basis, are they anywhere near the amount of cases and deaths as US?

And Trump is not conservative / republican...he is inept. There are a growing number of republicans have grown a pair of balls and have broken from the party. I would take 8 years of Mitt Romney over Trump. So it really isn't about left or right politics.

Wow,,,your post was a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
  • 5 1
@emptybe-er: Go on, please. Tell me something else about myself.

@ReformedRoadie in my opinion the big reason why America in particular has failed to control the virus is because Americans value freedom of choice. In Asia, people are less selfish and more likely to do as they're told. In China, you can't leave your house if the authorities have been around and welded the door shut. In Taiwan, not catching Covid is ranking number one in the public's opinion of what is important in life. It's an interesing one because they don't seem to care as much about how many people are getting killed and maimed in road accidents on a daily basis. The piss poor standard of driving in Taiwan has been a problem for at least 20 years - probably since the first automobile was imported. It's curious to me that there is no public appetite to fix the problem - then Covid turns up and the TW response has been an example to the world, literally.
In the UK the government's response has also been pretty shite, but at the end of the day if I have the choice between the cops coming and gluing my doors and windown shut so I can't get out of the house until they tell me I am allowed, and taking my chances on maybe catching Covid and if I do, probably not dying, then I will take the latter. People who blame Boris Johnson for not forcing people to stay indoors (except for the BLM protests - Covid had a day off that weekend) would also be screaming bloody murder if he nailed everyone's doors shut. They literally decide if they like the leader or not and if not, everything he or she does is wrong.

Viruses such as swine flu, bird flu, etc. Have almost disappeared, we hear nothing about them, was a cure a found? how have those been able to be controlled...
The reason why covid-19 is considered an impossible virus is due to that very fact, "it is ever changing and adapting to its enviroment," since the first outbreak there have been several different versions of covid-19..

Mitt Romney is a RHINO a poor excuse for a republican, he needs to shift parties to where he belongs, sucking off Nancy Pelosi's tit.
Australia's population is alot smaller than its land mass, so it is therefore Spread out across it states with the larger population being found in the cities. The Federal government has put responsibility onto the state run governments for Covid-19 related issues, states that didn't need to lockdown didnt and so on, based on how active the virus has been in each state. Various restrictions were put in place, traveling within a certain distance of your home. And only purchasing of essentials very similar to what New Zealand is doing now, controlling the virus by region.
Trump did however give this responsibility to each state owned government, but every single f@king democratic state governor and government decided to play politics and point the blame at the President for their incompetence, for example New York and California, Minnesota... the list goes on.

@cuban-b: Quite frankly I couldn't care less how or what you think, we are all entitled to our own beliefs, values and opinions right? (Even if sometimes we push past the facts and subscribe to a news source that fits our narratives and emotions)... it's when people like you perpetrate and force your opinions and beliefs onto others, I call you out and do the same thing back, because why not right?
Oh btw, if your are still subscribing to the leftist media and politics and you still think liberally and rather than practically and logically in these times, thats completely upto you, but it is quite stupid to be honest in my humble opinion... Smile

@SassyTheSasquatch: wow u literally contradict yourself in your own post. Your desperation is showing
  • 4 5
 @cuban-b: And you don't??!!
Wow, just wow, a raging leftist with some cheek... not surprised.. Would like to meet you face to face, nah actually I wouldn't... cause you'd probably end up calling me a nazi or a racist or bigot or whatever the F@k you leftists call free-thinking people who dont agree with you...

@SassyTheSasquatch: all your propaganda and deflection wont distract people from the fact that you are a burner account. it's ok, butch, you'll be back on top one day. i actually feel sorry for you. i wish you good mental health, my fellow MTBer Frown

 @cuban-b:
Ohh you're Californian, right yes, I have been wasting my time.. the Californian bubble is truly hard to burst nowadays (though there are some really great californians I know).. speaking of mental health, its currently 4:53am in California right now, either you don't sleep, you start work early - actually no... leftists don't work - or you've been up real late rioting and just got back home to your abode under the overpass.
Have a good life dude...

HAHAHA who am I kidding?!?!

@SassyTheSasquatch: making rioting or looting in the comment section is considered casually racist according to pinkbike.

Also cuban b, not surprisingly you're here. Smokes gone dude, go ride.
  • 2 0
@pistol2ne: if the things you said about looters weren't racist, then you're confident enough to repeat it to prove how you were wronged. Tell your side of the story.
  • 2 2
@cuban-b: My comment was, and I'll repeat it. "don't you have some looting to attend to?" to fellow bay area (oakland) resident pinkbike user.

I was banned for trolling and casual racism. The trolling is whatever and not here to argue that . The casual racism, was because of the above as noted in a private message from Pinkbike.

If they're going to slap me with trolling because they think we need to cool off, whatever. But to label me being "casually racist" because of that comment is pretty comical imo.

@pistol2ne: Awesome. And the article you posted about genetic superiority was also interesting. What was that link again? Genuinely curious.
  • 2 1
@cuban-b: Lol, I didn't post anything about genetic superiority. Because I'm awake, and not woke, doesn't mean I'm insane (or a supremacist). Come on dude. I did post a link to a book about critical race theory and how it's bad for everyone.

@pistol2ne: This space belongs to Pinkbike. If you want to test the limits, fine, but you may well get shut down. They don't owe individual posters any 'Freedom of Speech'. They can apply whatever standards they believe are in the best interest of their business model.
  • 2 1
@endlessblockades: Absolutely their prerogative. Also it's a Canadian AND a private company so more than within their power to do whatever they see fit. Doesn't change my mind about how I think one of the reasons I was banned was comical.
  • 3 0
@pistol2ne: Last time I got banned was by an algorithmic decision, not a human monitoring us grubs in the compost heap. Don't take it personally.

Thats poor show. Hope you both recover quickly.
  • 3 5
Lol, if you are traveling and competing in an ews race you aren't really "taking all precaution." Staying at home and doing solo rides is taking all precaution and treating the virus seriously. Bat virus bad, get well soon.
