Complete Entry List - Tokyo 2021 Olympic Mountain Bike Race

After a long qualification period, we finally have the complete entry list of the 38 men and women who will be competing for Olympic glory in Tokyo next week. The men's race will take place on July 26th at 3pm local time and the women's race will be held at the same time on July 27th. The course is located in Izu City and measures 4,100m in length with elevations of up to 150m.

To watch the event live, you'll have to tune in at:

Pacific Daylight Time (Vancouver): 11:00 pm previous day (-16 hours)
Eastern Daylight Time (New York): 2:00 am (-13 hours)
British Summer Time (London): 7:00 am (-8 hours)
Central European Summer Time (Berlin): 8:00 am (-7 hours)
Australian Eastern Standard Time (Melbourne): 4:00 pm (+1 hour)

 Yeah - a baby care room...yet no spectators allowed and athletes are not able to bring their babies...

 @ldhbaker: there is a great number of support staff for both the riders, teams, and the event itself. Saw something earlier that stated there will be 20,000+ support staff through the games in addition to athletes

 My wife and I booked our trip to Snowshoe and will be flying in from SoCal for 6 days mainly for XCO, but I can't wait for the double header DH too! So freakin' excited.

 I'm with you on the XCO, but my wife and I were blown away by the DH in '19. That insane crowd, those freakin rock gardens, and those riders were off the chain. Booked for this year, see ya there!

 @sarahmoore - are you guys able to do a course preview too? I checked and can't find any video coverage of the Olympic test event (beyond mobile phone videos from various static points), but I know this course is evil to the point it's made everyone step up their game and I'm looking forward to the racing.

Its a pretty badass course, the rock gardens are pretty intense from an XC standpoint (in my opinion)

 @SATN-XC: Thanks for that. And yes, I'd totally agree it's a bad-ass course. It's that rock garden / boulder garden at 3:30 in that I just can't get over.

 @sarahmoore: Correct....so Sunday night if you are staying up late. Note, they will be replaying the race on USA @ 12:15pm CDT on Monday if you don't want to stay up and can avoid internet spoilers for that morning.

 Does anyone know how to watch this? My Dish network is getting worse and worse, so I doubt they will have it on any channel that won't cost me an extra bundle. I'm also assuming internet will be blocked because *somebody* paid for the "broadcast rights".

 I have YouTube TV and they asked me one time that I fired up the app to select which events I want to be recorded as they happen - I’m not sure if you need to have an NBC bundle for that to happen but I also believe the IOC is going to have a livestream and/or immediate post-event upload of all events on their YouTube channel

 If you don't want to stay up until 1:00am CDT Sunday night (technically Monday morning), they are replaying the race on USA (the TV channel that is) at 12:15pm CDT Monday.

 Glorious Canada has free public broadcasting for most of the olympics! 2am Tuesday July 27th!

 Download the Opera browser and use their free VPN to watch canadian coverage. They should have everything you want... and you won't be subjected to horrendous American commentary.

 My assumption is that you will need to get the Peacock TV app on your computer or TV. They have a free version and a premium version that is $5/month. The premium version should get replays on all Olympic events.

 GCN+ and Eurosport both have the races live and on demand... During the Rio Olympics the UCI also had them on their YouTube channel.

 Can you delve into the track build/design? Who decided where the rocks go? What size? Where did they get them.

 I'm really glad they got rid of crapletes from the XCO events. I remember at the Sydney games the rock gardens were like a seal colony - people rolling around, limbs flailing, crying out. It was hilarious.

Great to see 2 PRC (China) athletes listed there.... Female entrant with a UCI ranking of 135 in 2020 with nothing this year... Male no ranking?
Same for Namibia - Male - ranked 112 in 2020 and 693 in 2021 (possibly injured?) Female 106 in 2020 and nothing in 2021?

 My assumption is this will all be on Peacock TV (NBC) streaming app in the USA. If you have the paid service we should be able to watch a replay during daylight hours.

 no mtb team from my country.what a shame. the only Olympic cycling athlete I can root for is at track cycling. Fortunately we have great athlete in that discipline.

 this race is 75 miles away from Tokyo. Hopefully that distance means the riders aren't hanging around the Olympic village like most of the other athletes

 Time and cost. 2 races is easier to plan and manage compared to multiple stages or quali and finals. Tbh just got be hyped it’s at the olympics!

 First, the disciplines need to petition for inclusion. It usually takes years to do so because the IOC approves and they are a bunch of corrupt A-holes. My guess is the DH and enduro folks dont care enough to go thru that hassle, at least not yet. Secondly, XC has been around a lot longer than DH and enduro. Third, its a whole lot easier for them to run an XC course than it is to find a worth DH or enduro course around a lot of these host cities. Not saying the others shouldn't be included, they should, just giving reasons as to why they might not be.

 @HB208: For sure, not saying they couldn't have. Point 1 is the most crucial there. Im sure they could make it work in a lot of diff locations, just depends on enough people wanting it there. Doesnt seem to be a priority for UCI and others i guess.

 Xc is also more accessible - you don't need a lot of elevation for a course. Personally I agree that it's not as exciting, but it is certainly far more inclusive to more nations...

 @HB208: i think dh would be great for Olympics. Its just downhill racing against a clock much like downhill skiing in the Winter Olympics. Except I think its more fun to watch. Could Rob, Claudio, and Elliot do announcing? Big Grin

 @HB208: oddly enough, I don't think it should, but idk why. No good reason. Just too extreme for it it feels, but then again, snowboard halfpipe is and other xgames style events in winter olympics.

 @HB208: To be fair that is a good point - most of the competing countries could field a dh competitor. I would counter that with the fact that the field is made up of counties that fund their athletes, and if you are a country with little elevation then it becomes significantly more expensive for that country to support a DH athlete than a xc athlete. That presents a barrier that the IOC would want to avoid.
Now consider that most nations aren't likely to win a dh medal (which is what they care about when discussing funding...) - it's dominated by a big few countries (currently France) who have the terrain on their doorstep. Why would someone fund a relatively expensive dh athlete rather than a cheaper xc athlete who has a similar or greater opportunity to win a medal? This is where being cheap is important, giving the nod to xc. There more of a chance some countries will be able to find the budget. If not, you may that get a far smaller field of athletes.

 @adrennan: Shes Canadian. I didnt follow olympic trials so i dont know why shes not there. I assume she just didnt make the team.

 Not too fan of EB, but both her UCI and WC rankings are better than the chosen two canadian female riders, so I think she got "robbed"...

 Not sure what the Canadian qualification standards were but I am guessing the other ladies qualified ahead of her last year when she wasn't riding that well. Her best results were back in 2018 and she hasn't reached that level again. Haley Smith had some really strong results in 2019. And Catharine Pendrel is an absolute legend and has been riding better than Emily this year at least.

 Is that because the Turkish Olympic governing body doesn't support your athletes? Is there a National team? there should be, if not!

I used to kick it in Kuşadası when I was a kid. All of Turkye is beautiful!

 @suspended-flesh: there is maybe a national team for mtb but i'm not sure, federation is kind of a mess. They allowed road racing last year and didn't allowed mtb because of corona around same dates (a week after i think)

Mtb is still growing, there are good athletes but i'm not sure if they receive the proper support
