Thanks to YOU! This video is for everyone who was in my corner this year: from my physical and mental coaches; to the kind people who messaged with words of support and encouragement; to my friends and family who stood by me through thick and thin; to all the brands who stepped up late in the year to make sure I had everything I needed to compete against the best. I experienced so much kindness and support this year from the people closest to me to complete strangers and for that I am so grateful.
It was an extremely challenging year, one I wouldn't repeat but sitting here now a year on in a completely different situation I hope, if nothing else, that this saga gives people hope that if they persist and stay focused on where they want to be in the face of adversity, then even 12 months on they can be in a completely different place. Thank you to everyone who played a part in getting me to where I am today, I'm excited to share my 2022 plans with you very soon!
CHEERS TO 2022—Katy Winton
The opportunity to work with Katy only came up early in 2021. But whilst only being together for one short season we’re super proud of what we have achieved together. It’s been much more than just what happened between the tape (although there have been some awesome results), witnessing the drive, honesty, and talent that Katy has shown in the pursuit of what she loves is everything a brand could want represent them. We are super fortunate to have been able to play a small part, along with her other sponsors to help enabling Katy’s talent to shine. The highlight was witnessing the spine-tingling support she received at her home Enduro World Series. Thank you Katy, it’s been awesome.—Rob Sherratt- Nukeproof Marketing Manager
I had the pleasure of working with Katy in her highly successful TFR years so it was really difficult hearing she was having a hard time finding a ride for 2021. Katy is clearly a factory quality athlete but it was just one of those weird years when opportunities were in short supply. So when Katy reached out in late 2020 I was honored and motivated to help keep Katy racing on her own program and chasing her dream’s. If you’ve ever met Katy I’m sure you’d agree she’s one of those special people that you just want to see succeed, a true professional on and off the track, she really gets what is to be a sponsored athlete. We wish Katy the best of luck in all her future endeavors and huge thanks for letting her friends at SRAM come along for this amazing lap of a long long ride.—John Dawson- SRAM Global MTB Race Manager

What a treat it was to briefly work with Katy this year, I've worked with dozens and dozens of athletes in my career and was beyond impressed with her work ethic, professionalism, athletic talents, spirit and fun. I had always been a fan so it was a real blessing to get this experience. Best wishes in the future, always cheering.
Stikman-Troy Lee Designs Brand Director
As someone who used to work with her at Trek, I 100% agree with you. She's an amazing person and an even better ambassador for our sport. I wish her NOTHING but the absolute best for her in the future!!!
I just can’t believe she’s parting ways with Grandma and Grandpa! They were the best! At least, we now know why she waited until after Christmas to break the news. That surely would have been an awkward Christmas dinner table.
You’d think Nukeproof would sign both Katy W and Bex B for top marketing at the Tweed EWS in June. Personally there more interesting for me than many others.
Stoked to see what she has lines up for 2022 and hopefully beyond! Would love to see more support and let her focus more on racing and less on all the other BS. Love her videos!
@pedalhound it’s an interesting one and I look forward to seeing how it pans out. Given that she’s not that good on a bike, but very good at all the social stuff (and that is a job in itself these days) it seems to me more likely that anyone who decides to pay her will be doing so more for that lifestyle side, rather than race results. Without being mean, she’s not going to win multiple races in a season, if any, and her following is surely based on her personality and vlogs etc.
@jaame: That's a bit harsh as she's come back from some serious head injuries. During her time with Trek before those crashes she was winning stages and top 3 in the world? So how is she "not that good on a bike?"
@linton-photo: Third place out of five isn’t anything to write home about. No offence to Katy. She has a great personality and promotes the social side of the sport really well. People literally do get paid for making social media posts in the world - probably as many as are pro athletes these days. There’s nothing wrong with it if that’s the job. I think the days of people getting paid just to race are drawing to an end. You probably have to be something special, speed wise, for that to be an actual job in itself. I’m more commenting on the people above who want her to focus on racing (something she isn’t top 1% at) rather than the social “BS” that she probably is top 1% at. That’s all.
@Saucycheese: I’m not trying to take anyone down any notches. I’m being real. I doubt many people care who finished fourth in a women’s race. That isn’t going to pay the bills by my estimation. Getting people to click “like” is going to pay the bills if one gets the “likes” in the right quantities. It would be a better goal than trying and hoping to win something one has realistically a very small chance of winning - hence why I gave up the dream of being a pro downhiller in 1994. If only there was social media in those days and one could get paid for “likes” then things could have worked out differently. The moral of the story is, I hope Katy gets a good package together to help her maximise the “likes” so she can keep living the dream. Best of luck Katy!
@jaame: "If only there was social media in those days and one could get paid for “likes” then things could have worked out differently." Why, were you likeable back then?
Must really piss you off to get turned down for sponsorship even though the industry is making money hand over fist. Best of luck to her, and hopefully she'll still be part of the EWS
It has been great, we laughed we cried, we sang and we danced. I will never forget all the great memories... Just to be clear it was me and not you... All the best in 2022 and I will be announcing your replacement tomorrow on MySpace
Weebleswobblis, Only true friends can misspell your name and get away with it. If you have too ask about MySpace then you aren't cool enough to be on MySpace and go back to your Facebook. Now back to watching Mad Max on my Beta VCR...
Plus you folks are sick....who looks at a post that has been downvoted by -35....
@mtb1101: New year maybe try a new you. Less of the aggression try some herbal tea, chill out and maybe not take everyone else's bike riding as something that should warrant your opinion.
Personally there more interesting for me than many others.
