Must Watch: Brandon Semenuk & Kade Edwards In Sync In 'Parallel II'

Jul 19, 2022 at 18:18
by Sarah Moore

Brandon Semenuk is constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done on a mountain bike by combining top talent filmmaking and progressive riding. After joining forces with long-time friend and fellow Trek teammate, Ryan “R-DOG” Howard, in 2019, Brandon released the first edition of ‘Parallel’. Two riders, two parallel courses, with intersecting riding and action.

Now, Semenuk has teamed up with UCI World Cup rider, Kade Edwards, for a second take. The powerhouse duo set out to push the series, as well as their capabilities to align timing and riding, in this stunning visual project. Filmed on a custom course in Kamloops, British Columbia, the riders leave little room for error while riding in close quarters. The video edit offers fast cuts, consistent action, and top-notch riding for an instant classic.

Oh god no. I don't want a horde of fanboys on here screaming about how they're too scared to watch their favorite rider because Rampage is just "too dangerous and unsafe".

@scott-townes: Yea, let's send you instead.

And Brandon needs to go to Hardline!
  • 3 0
@jgoldfield: if we could all just make and sign a super rapid petition so he can ride there this year. Not because I’m going or anything…

@Bomadics: Oh I've already been nine times but I still appreciate the offer. Do you want to Paypal or Venmo that money over for my tickets?

@scott-townes: so what you are saying is you want me to Sugar Daddy your trip to Rampage so you can fan boy for the tenth year? That's a kinky little McTwist!

@jgoldfield: +1 to both of the above

On the contrary, it would be interesting to see Semenuk race a DH World Cup.
  • 6 0
@DANKimball: I think it would be too! There was a long thread a little while back (on Brandon's) last video about the possibility of him racing a world cup, and how well he'd do.

Seeing him at a world cup would be amazing, but it seems less likely to me than Hardline. Since he's not technically on a factory race team roster and doesn't have any UCI points I believe it would be less than straightforward for him to enter. Also, while he's still way faster than any mere mortal, I bet he would be at the very best a top 30 rider compared to the dudes who spend all their time training to go fast on WC-style tracks. It really is mind-boggling nuts how fast the top racers are.. so I wonder if the prospect of having a lackluster result and tarnishing his image is something that would keep him away.

Hardline would be interesting though. For one, I think people overall are a lot less fixated on placing, so no one is going to think any less of Brandon if he doesn't place well. Second, with all the huge features on that course it seems to even the playing field a bit between freeriders and pure racers. Brage had an amazing run at Hardline last year and I think was even fastest on the upper section (before losing time at the bottom where it was more like a WC course). And since it's a Red Bull event, I imagine he could probably roll up the week of and they would be absolutely stoked to have him ride it.

It was totally weird for me, because i mismatched them and only found out afterwards that the blue one was Semenuk! Pure Art of Riding and camera work. Great start witrh the switches. Love it!

Me a typical male, aren’t they both wearing blue.

This is so good it needs to be posted twice on Pinkbike’s homepage.

Can we get Cathro to do a line choice analysis video on this? I'm sure I saw a few places where Brandon could've gained a few thousandths, and Kade coming to a dead stop on the lip of that jump was a total time-killer

That was immense! Hooray for multi-rider videos - this brought back memories of those awesome Coastal Crew edits.

Imagine being able to race UCI DH and throw dumped 3's.......or imagine being able to throw dumped 3's and win a rally car race......what a life!

Trek Factory Racing might be the greatest lineup of young talent we will ever see: Loris, Charlie Harrison, Reece Wilson, and Kade Edwards.
  • 28 3
Vali wants to have a word with you.
  • 11 1
@whiteboarder: different team, Rock Shox Trek Race Team, but yeah Trek has a lot of heavy hitters. That run Loris put down in Andorra was insanely good and precise given conditions, and he looked damn good doing it in the green kit/helmet/Session.
  • 7 0
@whiteboarder: Doh! Was only thinking men’s. Yes, Mrs Höll cements it.
  • 18 0
Anyone know what bike they're riding? Are we finally getting a new Remedy??? None of the current Trek bikes have that top tube / seat tube setup. Almost looks like two seat tubes. The lower shock mount is also really different. Can see it pretty well on Semenuk's bike at 1:29
  • 7 0
Pretty sure even when Trek has released "the same bikes the team rides" Semenuk has run custom geometry on all his bikes, so I wouldn't hold your breath. I however would also love to see a new Remedy
  • 4 3
The Fuel ex-e and the new fuel ex both have the same design so looks like they're on one of those. Treks been pretty quiet on the remedy front.... Hoping that's it but there's a chance of no new remedy.
  • 14 1
 looks like a session
  • 2 0
 Looks like a GT
  • 2 0
@kiddlivid: as sad as it is you’re probably right. They should get rid of the fuel ex and keep the remedy because they have the top fuel and the exe now. We all know they wouldn’t do that though.
  • 3 0
These are new Fuel EX I bet. New Slash will be high pivot like the Session.
  • 3 0
It looks to be the same basic shape as that EX e that came out a few days ago.
  • 5 0
The lower shock mount looks like a current remedy kinda. Definitely different seat tube setup and it looks like the bike follows the slash in dropping knock block and the straight downtube. They're both running lyriks that look too long for a fuel ex and the wheels look like 27.5 over 29 so Im hoping its a new Remedy but trek seems to not really move many remedy's. A new remedy with storage, no knock block bs, and lower seat tube height would be sweet.
  • 1 0
One of the bikes were at the Trek booth in Crankworx Whistler. Confirmed new Fuel EX (written on the top tube) and also full carbon. Ngl I was a bit disappointed it didn’t say Remedy but it’s a very nice bike!

Amazing creativity / skills for the riding, shooting and trail building.

I do miss the days though where this would be a segment that is part of a larger mtb film. I always thought that the contrast between different riders styles/ segments was super cool.

  • 11 0
Shocker. A rally career obviously prepares you for this kind of precise riding.

 Don’t forget BMX background…

Any handplanters out there catch that Brandon did both 'thumb forward' and 'thumb backwards' handplants? Usually one is way harder than the other. Obvi not for BS tho. Good good stuff!
  • 10 0
never saw parallel lines crossing each other so many times, other from that, did not find anything else to complain about, glad to see Kade in a real production video
  • 10 1
I hate to see your lands like that Ron and hope you’re coming back strong.
  • 8 0
Having both "Brandon Semenuk", and/or "Kade Edwards", and "Must Watch" in the title feels pretty redundant at this point. Incredible video!
  • 8 0
So, Kade is the stylish guy riding a Trek with a RedBull Helmet, right?
  • 7 0
nothing on that unknown frame theyre both riding ?
  • 1 0
I was thinking the same thing. New Remedy maybe?!!!
  • 6 1
ISAAC!!!!! Jesus C Dude! Every time! You're killing it. Riding and the build was stellar too. But that filming/editing. Insane!

Great riding as expected. But holy cow, the editing and shot blocking are insane! True pros in front and behind the camera.

I really think this Brandon Semenuk guy and this Kade Edwards guy might go some places in this sport..if they stick with it and work hard.. you never know
  • 2 2
Christ, that was AMAZING!!! Semenuk makes the most incredible vids/edits with unbelievable style..
I wish I knew how to jump properly using flat pedals, been clipless for 25years and rely way to much on them, which is sad..
  • 1 0
Considering the talent, there probably isn’t a crash video. Just a behind the scenes/making of type that will also be a must see.

Loved it, though the geometry nerd in me observed there wasn't a lot of anything parallel in there. Cooler than calling it "synchronized biking" though... 2024 Olympic demonstration sport?

Who else is more impressed with the drone pilot skills?

Okay, I will be downvoted, but besides the hand-plant combo, it was boring. On the level of these riders, this is JIBBING that is taped on video and cut with 1000 cuts. Still appreciate these legends, but I am waiting for the bomber videos of this two.

that certainly paused my lunch for 3 minutes
