Four Americans in the top 10. Nice for them to finally have a race at home.

@makripper: and no points, so probably not quite as representative of who is fastest as it is when qualies earn you points.
  • 1 0
 @makripper: He qualified 44
  • 12 3
@Bmontgomery87: how many WC titles and wins does he have again?
  • 6 0
@makripper: Maybe hes treating this the same way he normally treats timed training
  • 3 0
@hamncheez: ya he’s pretty far back. Either he’s still hurting quite a bit, something went wrong, or he’s not going 100% because there’s not really a reason to risk it. Or... I could be wrong on all accounts!
  • 2 0
 @hamncheez: kinda my thoughts too.
  • 10 2
@bman33: More importantly, how many WC titles and wins does Bmontgomery87 have?

@acali: gwins last one was a couple years ago and he hasn't broke any records yet. If he doesn't make a come back he'll just be a blip in the sports history.
  • 17 2
@makripper: Five overalls, 2nd most wins, 8 national championships, chainless win... Quite the "blip." Last win was 2018. I agree he hasn't quite cemented "legend" status yet, but that probably has more to do with his personality than his stat sheet.
  • 7 1
@BiNARYBiKE: wet and wild run at MSA, 8 seconds win gap at Val d Sole.. yeah Quite the "Blip" lol

@BiNARYBiKE: I'm talking last overall. Yeah I'm doubting he can dominate another season. I can see Loic or amaury smashing those results
  • 3 0
@BiNARYBiKE: you don’t think the guys who have a shot at overall would like to be last rider down when the overall is on the line?
  • 2 0
@robwhynot: sure, but it’s a balancing act between pushing the limit to get a good quali spot and being safe so you’re guaranteed to be around for finals day. And with no points on the line, the incentive to push the limit must be reduced at least a little bit.

3 minutes between 3 and 4 in junior women? I really hope we get some new talent soon, or it'll be really boring in a few years...
  • 53 0
Can you imagine paying to travel across oceans to race bikes as a junior? Talent stays a bit more localized in the younger categories and condenses with age and sponsorship.

That said, we do need more women in general on bikes.
  • 17 0
@Hand-of-Midas: AGREE! I have my 1-year old daughter shredding her strider bike while watching replays of Rachel Atherton race runs.
  • 4 0
There aren't very many junior women even starting these races. That may be the top 4 of 8 in total who started the race.
  • 6 1
Mckenna chrashed, layed down for couple minutes and finished. Somehow I would call that "new talent".
  • 2 0
@Hand-of-Midas: I think there does seem to have been an increase in the number of girls/women getting into biking, the difficult bit is getting them into racing, especially Downhill. There’s some talented young riders out there, but maybe British Cycling for one, needs to do more.
  • 4 0
@Hand-of-Midas: agreed. I think the uci has their head up their ass with women’s racing. 15 qualify for finals? If there isn’t 30+ women trying to qualify put them all in Saturday to encourage women’s racing. I get there is a pretty big gap in talent but some exposure is better than none.
  • 1 0
@jumpstuff84, there were only 19 entered to race - that's not exactly cutting deep into the talent pool.
  • 5 1
@Hand-of-Midas: Let your favorite brands - their potential sponsors know that they should support more young women in the sport. Hell, so many elite females barely have adequate support - women that podium... Does Vali have a factory ride? If she doesn't, she should...
  • 3 0
@Hand-of-Midas: That said, we do need more women in general on bikes.

I will second the above statement. Lots of volunteers, high school, middle school kids are trying:

We need the bigger teams to start supporting women riders. Where is the the women rider on the Syndicate team?
  • 7 0
@madocreg2: This arguement rolls round every f***ing world cup - there is not a deep pool of talent - the syndicate (and whichever other factory team you care to mention) wants winners or future winners - who are they going to pick from the current crop of riders? They dont poach people they approach people - rumour has it Hoffman is earmarked for Syndicate but not sure how true that is.

Look at World Champs - 19 riders raced the womens elite - 15 on camera - many of those 19 are non regulars on the WC (Verbeek and Astle for example) who were there because its home soil- the top three were pretty much a class of their own (the ones who look like they are racing and not just riding to survive) or those three and the next 5 or 6 they are all locked into contracts and sponsored teams of one sort or another. So if you are looking for new talent who are you planning to pick up without just pissing away money on frames and airfares?
  • 6 0
Don't despair. Remember when Aaron Gwin came out of the woodworks in '08? Didn't race a single year as a junior and the rest was history. They're is always a dark horse emerging out of somewhere to make things interesting.
  • 1 0
@paulskibum: Hoffman would be a great fit for the syndicate. I've been saying that all year.
There always needs to be teams and companies that are willing to think outside the box and be trail blazers. It can been seen as a chicken or the egg situation. If more women saw there was a possibility of being picked up by a team they may be more willing to sacrifice on the level it takes to become a pro. Investment and development can go a long way to creating something that at present may not exist.
I have been going to bike parks for over 30 years and one thing is most evident where ever I go there are waaay more women and young girls riding. I don't see that decreasing anytime too soon. They are looking for heroes too and will be more than interested in what brands they are rocking down the hill.

Vali rides for SRAM TLD RACING, don’t know what classified as “factory to you” but it’s most Certainly the most well supported jr development team on the circuit @stylishskier:

Anyone know where BK and Brendog were placed? I'm rooting for D Hart to take the win and either Loic or Troy - if possible? Overall. Also hoping Hannah see's it thru and comes out on top - her time is due.

Amaury fastest split 3 and 4?? not sure of the mathematics but it seems like it!
  • 2 0
I did the math (which means it might be wrong) and I have Amaury 1.448 seconds faster than Danny between split two and the finish.
  • 4 0
Tomorrow will be 100% ridiculous. Might be tough to watch.
  • 3 1
@Pedal-Bin: The timing took place in the USA so I thought I'd be respectful ad do the math on this occasion.
  • 1 0
@Pedal-Bin: globish man, just play along
  • 1 1
 You're right. I apologize. Wink.

@BenPea: I predict the race will be decided in a section of the track without cameras.....

I hope this is Danny's to win!
  • 2 0
Danny Hart, KOQ, can he turn this into a win? Let's hope so!
  • 4 0
Heck ya Charlie Harrison! MURICA! USA!
  • 3 2
I know we've seen it all season, or the last 2 for that matter. Friggin Vali Holl is going to a be a force next year in elites. If my math is right she would have qualified 3rd correct?
  • 2 0
Damn right. And all I got was negative props for pointing that out! Guess some people struggle with basic maths! ????
  • 1 0
Exactly what I was thinking @flyingfox49.... Pompon better come out all guns blazing for the final... my fantasy team is counting on it... if my mate beats me I owe him a laksa..
What happened to Elanora farina??
  • 1 0
Not sure she'll be going all out on this track. Remember she skipped the last jump on at MSA to save her ankle... that said, even a docile run from Nicole should land her a podium.
  • 4 0
 Matthew Sterling!!!
  • 4 0
Is him......... SCOTT STERLING's relative....... !?
  • 2 0
 SOO SICK
  • 2 0
I think I heard that there's no points for qualifying for this round. Is that true?
  • 5 0
 CORRECT
  • 3 0
 and 250 point for finals
  • 5 1
 Why is this?
  • 7 1
@scvkurt03: so that the final is where the overall can be won or lost. Makes the final WC more fun for us
  • 6 0
@patricioescobar: Doesn't make much of a sense, cause if Pieron won the qualis, the race tomorrow would be much more interesting. Now Bruni just needs to get down the hill safely, which doesn't sound like an amazing end of season.
  • 1 0
@mentalhead: Contrary to this, if Pieron botched qualis (which by the looks of it, he did), then it would be less exciting.
  • 10 0
@azogas413: Or did he go easy in qualis because there's no points to be had and he's a protected rider?
  • 2 0
@azogas413: You don't "botch" qualies when there's nothing on the line. No reason to go fast, just get down and save yourself for race day.
  • 1 0
@toast2266: His splits make it look like he had an issue at the top, rather than a safe run. After split two he rode the rest of the track 1.45 seconds faster than Danny Hart did.
  • 1 0
@mentalhead: yes, but that is not what is happening.
  • 1 0
There's a clip of Amaury going down in his quallies run on his Instagram.
  • 1 0
@Lotusoperandi: Yah I get it. I'm making a point in a scenario where qualis actually mattered here.
  • 1 0
@toast2266: Alright, in this case nothing was botched. But if qualis mattered and he placed this poorly, then the excitement for finals would be gone. That's the point I was making.
  • 1 1
@dingus: f*ck man, he's constantly a mm away from detonation. He death gripped that on out, all good.
  • 1 0
He might know he can put down a storming time and hopes Bruni chokes being 2 nd to last man down as it’s a tricky track and and mistake could go punished .
But I doubt it ll go that way .Brunis the man of the moment. @mentalhead:
  • 1 0
@mentalhead: this year the fught for tgr overall is thight between Pierron and Bruni. The rule is in place to prevent someone from winning the title after qualy if they have a huge points lead. It happened in Andorra with Gwin winning the title just cruising in final to get a few points after he won qualyfing.
  • 2 0
@ORTOGONAL555: Its funny everyone is dismissing Troy and and making it about Loic and Aumery? He is currently sitting between them in overall, would love to see Loic win but wouldnt bee too upset if Troy managed to do it.
  • 1 0
@miguelcurto: Troy was in 3rd, 200ish points behind Peirron going into this race.
  • 1 0
 @dingus: tks,got that later,the Uci rankings page showed diferrent,weird.
  • 1 0
@miguelcurto: yeah, I the uci rankings include other races like world champs and some other national races.
  • 3 0
Hannah with a point to prove I like it!!
  • 5 2
I wonder if Miryam and Tahnee have agreed to not gatecrash the party ??

USA representing pretty well in qualies!
  • 1 0
 Fuck yeah.....'murica.
  • 3 2
So Holl would’ve placed 3rd in Elites! And only 5 seconds off 1st! Can’t wait for next season so she can mix it with the big guns!
  • 2 0
Yeah Tracy. Killing it in timed training and Qualies. Really hope she gets the title this weekend.
  • 3 0
Is gwin sandbagging or is he still struggling with his form I wonder.
  • 5 0
No reason to pin it when quallies don’t matter for points. He just needed a top 60
  • 1 4

  • 1 0
