@enduroNZ: Most of us grown ups can't be f*cked with any of these platforms - mostly full of people wanting to be famous for eating in a nice cafe and taking photos of there food. Just got back from Noosa in QLD and there was a sickening amount of that shit going on.
@rory: the reality of the world today is that if you have a phone, credit card, Facebook account hell even a pink bike account your data is getting sold, mined etc. google does more mining of your data through cookies than anyone else. So either hide under a rock for the rest of your life or just deal with it
I'll wait 3 months until I can get a paper magazine with a 3 page article about the event.
Kids these days dont know the pain of having to wait for a glimpse of these events. Nowadays people are used to have instant content on their palm of their hands and this wont be good enough.

You had me at "such as". NO THANK YOU. Comparing this to pinkbike/outside's privacy policy makes zero sense. It's a different planet. This site is run by bike people who want you to buy new bikes and pay to read about bikes you can't afford and trails you suck too much to ride. I'm ok with that, they can have my posting history and my forsale pictures. I get a ton of value out of BuySell and I feel like Pinkbike has an honest data contract run by honest people.
@enduroNZ: Singed up and bailed years ago. Waste of time and shit for the planet. I like pinkbike, I don't need an app. Comments section is fun and generally filled with some interesting information like what @Mtmw posted about data collection. Don't get him started about TikTok.
@danielfox: people these days spend more time moaning about how life isn't what it use to be (newsflash: things change) when they could be thinking about what they can do to deal with the things they don't like
A big jump
A fishing trip
Group of mates drunk
Smart suits
Table of beers
Liftin weights down the gym
Wiring a plug
Brunch with bae
White man's Instagram

Bleeding brakes
Oily shirt
Cutties fail
Bag of takeaway...
@Mtmw: 1. in iOS you can disable cross-app tracking for marketing - settings-privacy-tracking - set to off 2. you can review permissions per app - settings-scroll to apps and see insta - disable location, review other settings. When it comes to the rest of this list some are inherently connected to insta services so perhaps indeed stop using if not happy.
I have an Instagram account under a random email and a autogenerated username, I then login via my browser. I don’t have the app, don’t follow anyone or have any followers, but it does allow me to watch clips like these and as far as I know Instagram isn’t really getting any more important data from me any other webpage could.
@Mtmw: look ultimately my point is that instagram/Facebook collect data but so does everyone else. So where’s your line? Pinkbike 100% collect data from you, if you use a cell phone, electronic payment, if you use google. So unless you unsubscribe to modern life (I know some people who have and guess what they are criminals) your data is being collected.
@JiminOz: dude if you tried any social media platform and it looked like you described (full of food pics and influencer wankers) than it really is on you. As the user you decide what your feed includes. My instagram feed consists exclusively of bikes, cars and diving, literally nothing else.
Not trying to talk you into using social platforms, just clarifying they don't work the way you think they work in terms what content you see.
As for data mining mentioned by others... I use google's services incl. Pay, Maps, Gmail etc. so I'm pretty sure that's a bigger issue than Meta knowing which wheel size I'm a dick about. I'm just not deluding myself that getting off insta will somehow magically make me "off grid" while using a lot of other online services.
@bananowy: Your not wrong but it's a monumental waste of time and just trains you like a rat. Literally like a rat, keep going back to get a taste while ignoring the accumulation of the negative side effects. If you think just cause you curated your feed your not being negatively impacted then you may want to try a month of digital fasting and really pay attention to how much better you feel. Quitting drinking was easier than all these rat traps, they just want you to feel like you're "missing" out.
@bananowy: I don't see any of that shit because I don't have any social media. What I do see is the morons feeding it. Saw two at the table next to me three nights ago. Ponced up f*ckwits, taking pictures of themselves with their dinners. The cretin male actually said to his partner "let's see who gets the most likes." Then they proceeded to eat their meal in relative silence, nothing worthy to say to each other.
Some c*nts even make a living doing it. Makes me puke.
@opignonlibre: yes that’s my solution as well, add brave and a vpn. But I don’t get an account, binds me to the license agreement and those supercookies are so sticky.
@deadbmx: they can get any unique identifiers from the device you're using regardless of any attempts to hide. Even better local police departments have been purchasing software to allow them to buy this data from third parties to assist in investigations and track everyone within a predetermined area.(no search warrant needed) Let's say you live next to somewhere that has a proudboys/ antifa protest, your cell phone data will gathered up with the rest of them and you just may end up on a domestic terrorist list (no joke). At the least they will be looking at your past month+ of travel and easily locate where you live and who you visit. But go ahead and think you have nothing to worry about because you're not a criminal but when they have all this access to our data they can easily make incorrect assumptions about a person and really mess with there life.
@Sweatypants: Couldn't Imagine a season without having 5-6wks between races for injuries to heal. Lol The attrition rate would be rough, but...like the TT it would create legends. Especially those damn Brits. Personally I think Mr. Kerr has reached the elite 2 wheel legends club of the UK. Gonna be a heater this weekend sportsfans!
@MikeGruhler: yea man. I'm not out there to see injuries, but given enough laps on stuff like this, they'd probably start piling up. This season was bad enough as it is on regular tracks. Still though, its for sure the best mtb race of the year hands down.
@Sweatypants: That events is truly madness as well. They are all at the limits but 60-70 kph is a whole lot different from 330 kph. It's not collarbones, it's vapourization.
@TreyDownhill: duh! Cause she's a girl and that shits f*cking huge! She's a god damn ripper and I truly wish her luck but hope she plays it safe. If she does a full run top to bottom no bypass then she'll become a damn legend. Let'r eat Jess!
No disrespect to her but I don't see her doing a top to bottom run. Also was there a reason she was the only female or is she really the only female who wanted to compete ?
@Jordanh604: I have no idea why she’s the only female but I would assume it’s just too big for most of the other World Cup racers. For example Rachel is on record saying that it’s simply too big for her to ever consider doing.
On top of that most of the top female free riders who might be capable are competing at proving grounds which is also this weekend.
She definitely is not lacking skills or mental fortitude. And as no women has tried to link all the sections together we don’t yet know. But being female she has a couple of disadvantages : strength to absorb landings especially( especially flat without buckling over into the stem ) will be lower than male riders the same size as her
Leveage/ strength ( shoulder width reduced) to make the corners at the speed they enter them off the jumps ( eg after road gap)
Aerobic capacity vo2max ( 20% less than males) and therefore her critical power will be lower. Will she be able to ride the sections consecutively at a fast enough pace to be able to make the jumps due to her lower aerobic capacity.
It will be cool to see her ride some of the jumps if she wants to. Hope she doesn’t feel pressured into anything and has fun and stays safe. Much respect @sino428:
@sino428: I remember Rachels statement from a few years ago, which is why I was over the moon when I heard Jess is gonna give it a go. Really hope she manages, but in a way that is safe. Or as safe as hardline gets ... been wondering about the speed. I remember Jackson being at Darkest a few years back and needing tow ins for the big jumps because he couldn't get up to speed by himself, due to being too light

I'm not sure that means what you think it means...

Or a bush in a porno.

Think the riders are more concerned about the rock section leading to the road gap and some of the new features.
On top of that most of the top female free riders who might be capable are competing at proving grounds which is also this weekend.
