Emily Batty and Canadian U23 National Champion Laurie Arsenault will form the Canyon MTB Racing team for 2021.

"It's a dream to be on a team like this one, and it's a great opportunity for me to learn from the best and with the best," Arsenault says. "I remember watching Emily at the Olympics and getting her first National title, and she was someone I wanted to be like. To be able to race on a team with her is fantastic—I've never been on a pro team before, so to be on a program that's this well-supported, I'm just so excited."

Keeping the team small in the first year of racing was an important decision for Morka, the team owner and race and marketing director. "We are taking a crawl, walk, run approach," he says. "We want to have a good year and prioritize quality over having a large squad—for now."

"I feel like it's taken years to reach this level of support. We've worked hard to connect within the cycling community and achieve performances at the highest level. A strong group of people supporting my dreams and aspirations in sport has allowed me to build our own race program and pursue this next chapter. I can't thank Canyon and all of the new team partners enough for believing in the team and everything I have yet to accomplish in mountain biking and sport. 2021, let's go!"

"I also have big World Championships, World Cup, and Olympic goals," Batty adds. "I'm really chasing that podium at every race. I want to go big on the performance side of things this year: I'm most excited to get back to Val Di Sole for World Championships."

Canyon MTB Racing is focused on providing a closer look behind the scenes through different modes of content creation and new initiatives with sponsors. "We have the vision to continue growing within the sport and beyond," Morka explains. "We wanted to build something completely different while creating a program that can stand the test of time, long after Emily decides she is done racing all while helping develop next-generation athletes on and off the bike."

This year, the program is supported by title sponsor Canyon, along with Bio Racer, Wahoo, Shimano, Abus, Fox, Schwalbe, DT Swiss, Lululemon, 100%, Vital Proteins, 4iiii, Ergon, Hyperice, UniorTools, Evoc, The and Momum.

"We have big goals, for sure," Morka says. "I would love to see our team become the number one ranked XCO team in the world. That certainly doesn't happen overnight, but I'm confident we can get there in the near future." Hopeful that racing plans will come together in a big way, Batty and Arsenault gear up to tackle an ambitious schedule.

Great video, just goes to show how amazing XC racers are, most of us would want 160mm travel and big tyres to hit that trail at half that speed, with our pads on and full face... These girls are so fast down a hill, on little clips in their lycra with a peakless helmet on! Its their job, but omg its impressive, when you see them do it at a WC whilst on the red line its inspiring.

We were sessioning a local “freeride trail” once, all the boys with their CH sleds and full kit, out of the blue Batty comes ripping down the trail on her hardtail faster than everyone and hitting gaps. Seeing WC riders IRL is pretty impressive!

was just popping in to post the same thing!

I was also just about to say the same thing. Not a lot of tread on those Racing Ralphs and Rays compared to the Minions most of us would ride on those trails. Those two riders are just so talented!

The kit, paint job and ice cream look superb!

Emily sounds like she is out to prove her haters wrong this year. That means we are going to see some fantastic races coming up. When Emily is at her best she forces the other riders to be at theirs. GO EB!!!!

Whoever designs the canyon jerseys is worth their weight in gold. The men's teams on canyon's must be disappointed with there lot more ordinary kits.

I too am lazy as hell but i really appreciate what these athletes do and am weirdly fascinated by the way they put themselves through it.

It would be great to see riders "forced" to train in the places we have to offer in Canada that aren't under snow, buying a local trail membership and showing their support and thank you to their new training grounds. Especially when they shoot a video there to pump their new team/sponsors.

I hate xc as I’m lazy but those bikes look sick

Disappointed - They should've been riding in a Canyon not in the forest smh
  • 3 0
That forest looks amazing. Arbutus trees I think?
Anyone know where that is?

 Hartland on VI

Vancouver Island, probably near Victoria. I don't know if there are Arbutus and Garry Oak forests anywhere else in Canada.

Thanks guys. Rode Hartland about 25 years ago, but clearly need to go back.
We have some arbutus trees here and there around the coast of the mainland, but no forests like that from what I've seen. Looks so good.

@kram: Yeah Hartland. Include refurbished Organ Donor. Also see prybar, who's your daddy and grinder -- fantastic trails.

The bikes look super sick but lets not make the stem-bar-thing a thing. Buh, Canyon, Buh.

 Go team....
  • 2 4
Ok for the colorful Outfit and Bike but at least Canyon could have tried to match the orange of the frame decal with the orange of Fox suspension...
  • 1 2
Don’t think it would last long though!
  • 2 5
I wonder how much it would take
  • 2 5
I would love to go out and ride with Emily 1 day!
