I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my bike go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
How would I be done for assault if he did'nt even know it was me Or remember...
Ofcourse I wouldnt walk upto him in day light bare faced , more like wait outside his house wearing all black and smash him with some thing blunt and heavy.
And if violence is not the answer then putting them in jail won't be either , the reoffending rates these days are near on 100 percent over here. where as if he thinks " shit , if i rob another bike maybe the next guy will kill me " he might think twice , pretty much guarentee this guy will do it again , the lure of things for free is too much for these f*ck-wits.
i know, seriously? his 2500 bike is easily worth as much as a car! stealing that bike is bsically stealing a car! itws not like some punk took yur toys r us bike, its a fully custom ride man! hell yeah i say go get em!
" I knew it was stolen when I bought it, thas not illegal or anything".... what a f*cking moron. Don't drop the soap now, bubba might steal something of yours that you wil never get back.
I'm moving into the same neighborhood at the end of the month. Fool better not scope out my Pinn'r... end of threat but he won't be happy with the outcome. Had my 2001 Schwinn Blue falcon stolen in Portland a few years back and I still keep an eye out for it...
I love the excuses, Its not illegal to sell stolen property I checked. Why would you need to check? And why would you buy a fellow riders stolen bike? He should have been laid out the second he ran away. Better that it was handled the way it was though, keeps you out of trouble and him in it. props on the dedication of getting your bike back!! Im so paranoid because of idiots like him.
Thats so sick. My bike got stolen this spring. And I was so bummed. bike theft is depressing. Im pumped this guy was lucky enough to get his wheels back!
LOVE THIS! I have huge respect for the Portland/Seattle Police after watching this, the RCMP would just sit on their fat asses and do nothing. Like the time I called them from the bike shop I worked at and said someone was trying to sell me a stolen bike off the street and I could prove it was stolen... Or the other time someone brought in a bike for me to fix and I could prove it was stolen. And I must say I have even more respect for the fact this dude didnt take a bat to the guys legs... I wish I could say Im above such things.
slightly off but our police brutality thing interferes heavily with their job to, like look at the vancouver riots if they got out batons theyd have police brutality up their asses a week after
Crazy!!! In our state, you don't need to be trafficking if the bike is worth over $3000. It's a class A felony. It's like stealing a car. Glad he got his bike back, that would totally suck...
He'll probably get off with some community service or whatever. These guys should've just beaten him up - 2 broken arms and he won't be stealing for at least 3 months.
Hillarious. my brother got his Foes Fly stolen. A bum stole it and then sold it to somone for 50 bucks thane that person actually knew really how much it was worth lol but sold it for 500 lol. A 2000 dollar bike lol. then the cops found it. immagine if that bum knew how much it really was worth lol. thats a lot of meth.
AWWW YEAHHHHH BUDDDYYYYYYYYY. Get some, in jail...haha.
Stealing anything, especially bikes is the lowest you can get. People work hard for their bike, they spend hours, days, months, years on their bike, it's their 2nd baby, their freedom and pride. Don't f*ck with it.
Everyone needs to GPS their bikes or do something, so IF this does happen, we can all track down our own "Ackermans" and make them famous on the internet.
second baby? I am still working my santa cruz off. Its my first baby I care more about it than my car! Been working sixteen hour days and not riding just so in the future I can. It never leaves my side unless its deadbolted in my apartment. I totally agree though, there are ways to make money that don't involve stealing shit, how bout you make blankets and sell them at the farmers market?? theives suck!
Haha, only said "2nd" compared to some peoples possible "first" actual real baby child..to me it's my 3rd baby (GF, Music Production, then the SC Heckler), but nonetheless, I check my garage all the time to make sure it's not gone, lock my 6 deadbolts on my door, and then load up 7.62x39 ammo in my automated motion detecting turret. Even living in an almost 0% crime rate town, I take no chances.
I honestly would have filmed my friends and I beating the living shit out of that guy! Awesome that you filmed this and called the cops. In the end calling the cops and getting him charged is alot better. Now we will spend time in jail? and have a record for life. I bet you guys just saved endless amounts of bikes for people because of all this hard work! Mad props!!
If anyone ever stole my bike I'd slowly run them over with a steam roller and then let them experience what it's like inside a trash compactor. Awesome job getting the bike back!
thats fking right you scumm yougot served whit a little dose of justice....good job for getting that ass wipe here in chile your done if youre bike is stolen , for cops over here a bikes is just a toy so they wont help a bit....so its nice to see some citizen justice congrats
I remember my bike getting stolen. It was the first Spec Langster aluminum in 2006. There wasn't a sh*tload down the street of my little city, even in Canada.
I was bummed... 'till the guys who stoled it from me bring it back to the shop I worked for a day after to sell it...................................
And in the police car the little bitch was going. It was funny to ask him where he found a so rare bike, as he was happy to make a lot of money.
came out good in the end, but you did a HORRIBLE job of keeping your secret-agent cover till the cops came. if you just talked about the parts for 10 minutes and kept the guy waiting for you to stop talking you could have simply stood still while the cops did the pursuit-and-catch operation. you even described that as your plan going into it...
instead you blew your cover instantly and basiclly almost lost him when he ran, leaving you with nothing but "citizens arrest?!", which would likely have gotten you a kidnapping charge. the you had to run for blocks sounding a bit desperate and powerless...
Nothing feels more violating than having your bike stolen. After having one stolen years ago, I searched in vain for that coward, but nothing. This is a great video, wonderful editing, and a great ending. That f*cker should pay for the CO^2 offset of you having to drive to Seattle instead of riding your wheels around Portland. Just sayin'.
Right on! You were really level in the whole story... I think I would've loose it and kick his ass.
Good on you!
Hope this is going to teach a lesson to all the A-Holes out there steeling our toys!
This made my day. Perfectly executed.
The only thing I'd want to say is that this kind of thing is very risky. If he was armed, as is possible with scum, you could have gotten someone seriously hurt. Tighter timing from confrontation to cops would have been ideal.
I think these guys did the right thing and nicely executed. Smashing him the face as some people suggested here might have been as bad as the crime of stealing a bike - especially if someone is just trafficking goods and not actually the person stealing.
There is a massive difference between moving something on that you suspect is stolen than actually stealing someones property.
Anyway quality video!
I would of tazed him with a $40 buck tazer bought from eBay,then a rusty screw driver shank to both knees, so when it gets cold that pain will never go away due to arthritis from the shank....reminding his lowlife dumb ass never to steal again.
in here in Vancouver the cops sucks big time, same thing happened to me with my bike but right there was 2 cops in the corner eating donuts and i told him was my bike and the cop told me call the cops dude we r busy fc ur self
My buddies bike got stolen and we did this yesterday soooo sick to get is bike back and the cop was very forceful in the arrest ahahaahhha best part is they searched his truck and found a big bag of something hopefully they see jail time but prob not assholes
awesome for getting your bike back and you couldn't have handled it better! my 2 bikes are worth over $17,000...and for that I would have had his head in a vice in my garage chiselling his teeth out, id go full on Liam Neeson on him!
i just hope there are some bike thieves reading and watching this so they understand not everyone will sit back and claim the insurance...some of us WILL pursue you..and you best hope they don't have my sick mind.
..saying that, my bikes are pretty well guarded at all times..6 gold rated locks, three locked doors to go through to get to them..and thats only if you survive my dogs..which you won't!
WooHoo!!! This video made me smile and brought back memories. The same thing just happened to me. Had my pivot firebird stolen off the back of my car (cut the cable lock) and found it on CL a few days later. With the help of my fellow mtn biking friends and the San Diego PD, we set up a sting and I got to watch the dirtbag get "cuffed and stuffed". It was the best feeling ever, until the cops wheeled my baby over to me about 15 min later. Now, that was a great feeling. I testified at the hearing and he pled guilty. Getting 2 years and 8 months. effing dirtbag. BIKE THIEVES SUCK!! But getting justice rules!
PS: The only reason I got my bike back is that I had the receipt with the serial number on it. Please get the serial number off of your bike and put it somewhere safe in case this ever happens to you!
Hell yea man, I would do the same thing if someone stole one of my bikes. I'd rather have my car stolen any day. Keep the PB community updated on this scum's sentence. Anyone got a mugshot of his arrest? LOL.
Bravo, bravo. Way to keep your heads and take care of this idiot thief withiut getting yourselves in trouble. A beating may have felt good but idiots don'tearn fromthe beatings they undoubtedly get in life and you could arrested. Nice, nice work.
Good to see they had the self restraint not to break that guys jaw and tackle him hard to the ground. Better to let the authorities take him down legally - job very well done lads!
f*ck bike thieves! They should all rot in prison with a d*ck of their a**es. Thieves are some of the lowest form of scum. Might be a bit harsh but that's how I feel. Glad you got your bike back. I wish every bike theft had such a happy ending.
Next time use a baseball bat instead of cell phone cam if you really want to teach a lesson. If anyone see my crome redline 24" on craiglist hollar. I'll show you how we recover stolen bikes in brooklyn lol.
Hey man, I had my first Mountain bike I paid for with my own money stolen as a kid. Nicely done in tracking this guy down, nicely done in handling it properly, nicely done in not touch the guy in the process, and most of all nicely done in getting your bike back, I didn't get mine.
Craig Akerman the bike thiefe has his mug on this video. if you see this guy.......Do what ever you feel like doing to the scumbag!
This vid is awsome . thank you. if you live in BC and your bike is stolen. RCMP will tell you that you will probably not get your bike back. i have been told this. Talk about giving up before you have even tried to help.
just saw this on 2ndavenue TV report, had a buddy's bike stolen also the same way like his story, he got his bike back after almost 2 wks from a kid, the kid said he bought the bike from an elderly man, his bike is a bit known here in our city, one of our friends saw it and collared the kid, it was fortunate that he was able to have his bike back.
I think I found him. Craig Ackerman, Cleveland High School Class of 2008 · Portland, Oregon, that makes him the right age of 22. One last bit of info for you all his phone number 1 (503) 309-7760
Seattle PD sucks at times civil rights and personal rights wise, but they are taking bike thefts seriously...When I worked for a big local shop, although the stings they routinely set up to catch thieves sometimes interfered w/ our customers and business, it was cool to see them handling the situation and trying to get bike thieves what they deserved.
Good for you brother!! True, that little weaslec*ck shoulda got his ass beat, but kudos to you for having the balls to go there and then going thru the police to get your ride back. Justice served bitches!!
If they can prove he brought the bike across state lines it could turn into a federal charge. Just don't steal people's shit and you'll be ok. Awesome detective work!!
My bike got stolen a while back, found the dumb ass riding it through the city the next day. He stated to the cops "I dont usually ride them until they are spray painted."
You and your crew are legit! Props for tracking it down, travellin for the setup, and taping and editing this! My buddy's giant was just stolen from errington in bc. We're coming for u!
That just made my day. Brought a tear to my eye knowing that you did the best possible thing and got that fucked arrested and properly convicted. Good on you sir!
Somebody needs to post a copy of Craig Ackerman AKA " Scumbag Bike Thief" police mug shot and plaster it all over the internet. Future employers will certainly come across it.
In my mind, when the theif was on his phone trying to walk away from the situation and he threw away the seat and seatpost, that told you everything you needed to know.
Hes lucky he didnt steal my bike id beat the mfer with a bat! Then id take my bike back and be on my way. Awesome you got your bike back man and thanks for posting the video!!!
hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah that mother fucker hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Nice going man, I watched this with my kid and she just loved it. No one should steal bikes, it's just heart breaking when it happens.
If someone stole my bike i sure hope i would be there to give them a severe ass whooping and then call the cops. Thieves piss me off and SO happy he got his bike back
the popo in my country wouldnt give 2 shakes of their fat asses if this happens. they only care about dishing out speeding fines...anything they can generate revenue from. usually the good law abiding citizens of the country that make little mistakes. like 32 in a 30. no point in fining criminals...they aint gonna pay! so fine the working and tax paying.
oh your bike got stolen?.....we dont care...you already pay our salary!
I wouldn't even bother calling, my mate got his motorbike nicked from the garage at his house and called the police, took them 2 MONTHS for them to show up at the house because they were so 'busy'. I really wish I was kidding but I sh*t you not! Yet last week of every month you get a bout 10 of them sitting on the side roads to the main high streets all day waiting for someone to speed so they can rack up their figures for the end of the month.

total props to u guys for getting his bike back and getting that piece of trash off the streets so he cant take somone elses bike! i vought VOD all the way!
Oh man, my adrenaline was pinned watching this video. Right on dude and congrats on getting your bike back. Unfortunately most people aren't that lucky.
no because if he had just done that, that guy would have gotten away with it and gone and stolen more things. The way he planned it, that guy is getting jail time, a record, the public humiliation, EVERYTHING!
Yes , that's a fact. Don't f*ck with our bikes.
! would go around the world to get my bike back.

lucky end to a pretty well botched operation
