Sprung 3 is the reason I traveled across America from the UK to ride Laguna, Troy Lee and Santa Barbara, among others. Also met some amazing friends and amazing riders! It instilled the love of mountain biking in me and that is the number one reason why I am a resident of amazing BC nowSmile Long live Sprung!!!

I loved them all but I just copied and pasted Sprung 3 to a friends wall on facebook and tagged everyone who I used to ride with wherever they are in life now and the comments are flying in. We used to watch them religiously every day. Its amazing to see the the old arsenic quarry aka chip shop and a few other places as I was there on the days of the filming. Alex Rankin should get back on it and start back again with Sprung 6

Arsenic quarry (tavi woodlands) is bigger and better than ever! No longer allowed in the too section by the stacks but the rest of the land is legally accessible with a tavistock riders membership. And they have a race seriesSmile

Sprung 1 - check out 12:30 Keith Chegwin, INSANE local rider in Devon who was probably mid thirtys when this vid was shot. Rode with another local lad called Magnus who ran our local bike shop. They're likely now heading towards their 50's, likely still ride and most definitely still don't give a f*ck.. Legends.

This has made my morning! I played Sprung 4 over and over until the tape burned out - and I still chuck on some Mark B & Blade on the way to the trails to this day!

I just bought 'Parismatic' by Capsule for 2 quid on Amazon. Quite a shame though the Smoove and Aquasky stuff is next to impossible to find.

Totally agree on Mark B & Blade - it's now my de-facto riding music and has been since I first heard 'The Unknown' on Sprung 4. Equally agree with Bonkywonky regarding the Smoove stuff. I have 'He Won't Get Far' but there is at least one other tune on that vid that I simply CANNOT find anywhere and it kills me to think it may be lost forever... The music on the Sprung series was always so spot on.

There are quite a lot of Smoove tracks in Sprung 4, mostly during these little transitional clips. As rockstorm showed (cheers for that), the more known tracks are available but personally I like the ambient-ish tracks the most and these might indeed be lost forever unless mr Smoove decides to re-issue all the old stuff.

If anyone can find 'Don't stop' by Aquasky vs Masterblaster I'll buy him a beer through Paypal..

Is the first little edit on Sprung 1 at the Forest of Dean? Two of the shots look like the top of the final section of ski run.

 It sure is...
Thats my claim to mtb fame... the first rider ever on Sprung! We happened to meet Alex Rankin in the local woods and he invited us to shoot with him the next day in FOD. 16 years ago!!!! WHAT, how did that happen??? Bikes have moved on a bit since then.....and the riding...and thank god the clothes too!!

Wow! That is awesome! Haha yeah, I'd love to do a run on one of these bikes though, just to see how sketchy it really was! I was born in feb 97 so watching this is pretty funny!

Joe? (I'm guessing so) met you a bunch of times, at Plymouth uni mtb club. With special James and Carl etc... I've moved on now.. Living the dream in WhistlerSmile still broke tho!

Where is Alex Rankin now? What he is up to? Is he dead? Why did he stop filming MTBs, his last was Earth 5, laws of five.
  • 2 0
he did an edit with adam brayton and nico vink earlier this year - filmed in lake district, north England. just google the 2 names. Pretty good!! life was better when I could buy earthed at the end of every year.

I saw he's doing some commercial work for Charge amongst others. He still has the same raw, skateboard-ish style of filming and editing that makes Sprung/Earthed stand out.

Actually, exactly that! Also, I'm going to see just how much, ahem, work, I can get done whilst catching up on the classics.

Awesome videos. Grew up watching all of them. Cracking soundtracks too! Always wanted to hear more of the band Chomsky from Sprung 1 but could never find anything anywhere.

As a 15 year old who had never seen old downhill tracks I have to say that these are more awesome.

Why do these videos get me so much more pumped than any thing that has come out recently?.. Young Steve Peat is so awesome!

I laugh how MTBR has such weak original content and when Pinkbike posts something cool they copy it and put it on their site.

Thank god video composition, editing and quality has improved along with the bikes. I'd much rather watch anything Anthill has put out than any of these.
