It has been really wet lately, so we made gravel jumps to keep from going insane.
Living in Hawaii has many advantages. One of them is riding year round. We have been enjoying our riding time as much as possible thanks to the new pumptrack we built.
Two weeks ago on Thursday, it rained sixteen inches in a twenty-four hour period. After going to our local riding spot and seeing that it was going to take an enormous amount of work to be able to ride again we were really bummed.

We have been waiting for it to dry up enough so we can do some work, but it has been so wet that trail work is just impossible right now. It has been raining non-stop since that Thursday. With nothing else to do, we have been watching biking videos like the one we made just before all the rain came.
Thankfully the rain finally stopped for a few days, but sadly everything is too wet to ride. Ari who is an awesome guy and rips at downhill, owns a masonry company and he just got a load of basecourse delivered to his construction yard. He said we could come over to make jumps and that is exactly what we did.
The jumps
Ari, and Vish had made the first jump on Saturday. On Sunday Ari, Nate and Mike were making the second jump when I showed up. I went right over to help but they already had it under control. Ari was on the bob-cat, Mike had a shovel and Nate had the compactor.

They had made the second jump in about fifteen minutes. We quickly put our armor on and started to session the jumps.

After riding a little bit, Mike decided he wanted to get some killer angles for pics, so he got up on Ari’s forklift and took some shots from above the jump.

After riding for about two hours we took a break to eat chicken and these awesome homemade frozen ice cream popsicles that Ari’s wife brought. (Thanks again!)
It was now starting to get dark and we wanted to make one big jump. Ari pushed the two jumps together and we shaped all of the basecourse into a big booter in about twenty minutes.

I had taken my pads off because I told myself I was done for the day, but when I saw everyone else hit the booter, I threw my pads back on and started jumping it myself.

Daytime transitioned into night in the blink of an eye and we had to tear the jump down so Ari could get all of his equipment out of his yard for work the next day. Hopefully the rain will stop and we will be able to ride Kalaheo again soon. If not Ari said we can make some more jumps in January.
Merry Christmas and ride safe!

nice table btw.
Supposedly there's an epic ride over near the North Shore that only the locals know.
Haven't been back since my grandfather passed in '06 but plan to as soon as the economy gets better (and I'm hauling my bike with me!).
My riding parter is also from the Island and we've been talking about one day riding the islands...
Props to the local boys of the 5-0
