Opinion: The Opposite of Learning to Fly
All very true about martial training and falling safely. Aikido, although not as aggressive as other disciplines, makes you fall backwards, roll forwards, teaching how to crash. After 1000’s of repetitions, it transforms the entire crashing process. When I’m about to crash, the world slows down enough that I see the rock or log or whatever is in my flight path. Does it always protect me? Definitely not always, but most of the time it does. I also acknowledge the learning from a rough and tumble childhood I had in rural Vermont, when good fun assumed a bit of risk. It’s the locus of the stoke I seek still at 58 years young. And seeking this stoke is at the core of the dissonance we need to keep living fully!

Salsa Deadwood SUS 29+ Frame Damage at Seatpost

$750 USD
2017 Salsa Deadwood SUS X01 Eagle 29+ frame for sale. A little background: I’ve had this bike since 2017 when I purchased from the original owner in Boulder. A few years ago, I noticed some spider like hairline fractures in the paint. I kept an eye on it and tested it for weakness on a regular basis. I’m not a small rider and would be classified as a Clydesdale at 200 lbs. That’s why I ride Salsa and Surly bikes. I was planning on upgrading this bike when spring rolled around. I asked the my local bike shop if they would look at the seatpost. Short story is they said the “hairline fractures” were an indication of a cracked frame. Several folks recommended having it fixed since it is so minor. By this time, I was well on my way to completing a new Kona Honzo ESD build which happily accepted many of the Deadwood parts. The Deadwood is an all around excellent ride. It can handle just about anything and provides a great all day trail bike. The geometry is pretty standard, except of course it uses the Split Pivot design and is a plus bike. This bike has been very reliable and never left me out on the trail wondering how to get home. Vermont has some pretty unique riding, including big, technical climbs. Never crashed hard or abused in any way. The rear triangle is alloy and with some paint loss. I have cleaned and maintained the bike regularly, and I think it will make somebody a great project and excellent ride in the years to come. For more info, visit Salsa Cycles Legacy page. Along with the frame, you’ll get a Rockshox Pike RC with 100mm of travel and a Rockshox Monarch Debonair with 91mm of travel. Also, it will have the original Rockshox Reverb dropper in working condition (may need some TLC), and the original SRAM 175mm crankset. I’m asking $750. Thanks for looking!
