Silver Star Resort is really looking forward to bringing back the snow DH race to the resort to promote the upcoming BC Cup Premier DH series in 2015 as well as focus the attention on the summer season product at the resort. “We are extremely proud of what we have built here at Silver Star and just because the bike trails are buried in snow doesn't mean we are going to keep that enthusiasm hidden” commented Silver Star Marketing Director Anne Haight.

This two day snow DH event is the first of its kind to be run exactly like a summer DH race and to be sanctioned by Cycling BC. Riders will be given lift access to get to the top of the race course after safely loading their bike onto the Cat trailer.. Once at the top of the race course racers will be descending down the taped track which will include jumps, berms and drops on the ski run “Milky Way” back to the finish line and the mass of spectators in the mountain village.

Racing your bike down a snow packed ski run in March can get you all kinds of attention.

FrostBIKE Western Open Silver Star Fernie

True to a grassroots event there will be nothing but fun with crowd approved grandstanding, good-natured heckling and plenty of Fireball. Even mechanicals and crashes that often warrant angry adult tantrums at the more serious races will be embraced here with laughter and head shakes. More than anything, FrostBike will give riders the chance to get in some pre-season practice, see our long lost racing friends, show off your new gear and drink lots of cold BEER.

Everyone was on mud spikes. . I chose my trusty 2yr old bald Muddy Mary's worked great, gotta keep it loose! You can see how well they worked in the first video (2013 by VirtuMedia) @ the 1:00min mark. I wonder what percentage of people crashed on there race run. .

How serious is this ? My only DH race experience would be a couple of Phat Wednesdays, but crashing in snow looks like fun !

Question about the 2 day lift passes. Do these count for skiing / boarding too?
  • 1 0
In previous years you had to purchase a ski/board ticket separate.
