The Dunbar Summer Series, as part of the overall BC Cup circuit, will include stops at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Panorama Mountain Resort, and Fernie Alpine Resort in 2016. Over the years this race series has gained a following and a reputation for, not only the quality of racing, organization and prizing, but for the epic road trips; to, from or in-between the events. Race families and friends will often arrive early or opt to bridge the gaps between some of the events by caravan-ing through the interior of BC, finding the best swimming holes, checking out some of the legendary local riding, and stopping in for the occasional go-kart hot laps or mini-golf.
Some highlights include the whip offs, riders meetings swag toss, Brett Tippie on the mic, hosting Troy Brosnan, Rob jumping his bike off a cliff, Dean winning the huck to flat AGAIN and group rides at Swansea and on the famous Mt 7. 2015 was a great series and thanks to the huge support from Dunbar, Intense and all of our series sponsors - 2016 is looking to be even better!!

Lola... The motivation behind BC's best pure downhill eventsProceeds from the Dunbar Summer Series will go to the Love for Lola Fund, which will assist with my daughter’s rehabilitation. Lola is recovering from life-threatening viral encephalitis, which she was infected with in 2008. As a result, she has an acquired brain injury which involves mainly the left side of her brain and impacts her life greatly. She is non-verbal and developmentally delayed as a result of her brain injury. For approximately five years, Lola suffered from dozens of seizures daily which profoundly impaired her ability to recover and to participate in daily life. In January of 2013, she underwent brain surgery (Corpus Callosotomy) to control her seizures. Lola was seizure free for one year, but now she is still impacted daily by seizures. Proceeds from the Dunbar Summer Series will assist with her care and recovery, and any opportunity that we have to facilitate her engagement her in everyday life; be it swimming, biking, or enjoying life with her family.
On Oct 12, 2015, we decided to start Lola on Hemp Oil - otherwise known as Cannabidiol, Medical Marijuana, MMJ. After being told by our neurologist that we had “exhausted all options,” I started doing some research. Truth be told, I started the research a couple of years earlier, after seeing a documentary on medicinal marijuana, and its saving grace on a little girl named Charlotte. Never in my life did I think that I would be procuring marijuana to save my own little girl. It’s always been my way to research new trends in brain injury and epilepsy…and in finding any little clue to help Lola in her fight against epilepsy. I didn’t really think that I would ever have access to the actual medicine that I’d read about - Charlotte’s Web, developed in Colorado by the Stanley Brothers.
After having been on Charlotte’s Web for four months, I can say that Lola’s seizures have decreased drastically. I’m not great at math and percentages, but I can honestly say that now days, and nearly weeks go by without seeing a seizure. We were used to seeing anywhere from 2-5 seizures per day. We have nearly kicked the big, tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures from Lola’s life (they still sneak in from time to time). I can’t tell you what a difference this has made in Lola’s quality of life. She sleeps better (there’s almost no THC in it….so that’s not the reason), she’s happier, and definitely more engaged at school. She has some really great days. We’ll continue to keep our fingers crossed.
Her incredible story is posted at

I am really looking forward to doing a couple of these races this summer, I have to ask though, what's the reasoning behind having just the one race run in a regional/provincial race series? At a national/international level of racing I understand it. Must be tough for the privateers being able to justify racing and travelling up to 10/12 hours across BC for just the one race run! Having spent the majority of my years racing in the UK anything but national level racing had 2 race runs with 30 second intervals with the results from 1st race runs being used to seed 2nd race runs! I can't be alone with thinking this surely?
You get used to it, plus these races are really well run and feel super relaxed compared to all the UK races, you should definitely do them, not that I'm biased or anything.....
