Video: Rob Warner on His Career in 'Three Peaks'

by SHIMANO

Rob Warner has been a permanent fixture in the mountain biking scene since its inception. As an elite downhill racer and world cup winner with a rockstar lifestyle in the 90’s, his reputation preceded him. Now, he is best known as the voice of the UCI mountain biking world cup coverage on Red Bull TV commentating the series live from around the globe.

When Rob left racing as a professional in 2006, it was clear to him that mountain biking no longer had the same appeal that it did when he fell in love with the sport; the feeling of speed, adventure and the freedom that came with it. Contracts, corporate commitments, and the pressure to train and perform consistently on demand soon took its toll, leaving him resentful of the sport he fell in love with and not touching a bike for over 6 years.

It wasn’t until he discovered e-MTBs that Rob found himself falling back in love with the sport that had shaped his entire life. He’d heard about them, what people said about those that rode them but as soon as he tried it for himself, he knew that this would change the way he felt about riding again. The assistance that his Vitus E-Sommet powered by the EP8 motor was able to provide has removed the sense of pressure to perform when riding again. After more than 6 years, Rob was able to ride for the sake of riding again, for the fun of it, regaining that sense of freedom and excitement that he felt in the formative years of becoming an elite racer.

This newfound love for riding bikes has opened doors to new opportunities and adventures beyond the short-lived elite levels of the sport that he could never have dreamed of taking on after retiring from elite racing. Now, Rob finds himself at the start of a new era of his career as a professional mountain biker, something which would have never been possible without his e-MTB.

Sooo Rob, have Discovery contacted you yet?

"In 2021, Rob started a cult, with a bizarre membership ceremony known as ‘the eggening’ involving an egg being broken over the to be kneeling members head with them then standing up to shout ‘All hail the egg’."

I think this is his new gig...

Discovery has no audience without him especially if it’s behind a paywall subscription

My concern is they'll only show an hour.

 Idea,
If Disco don’t employ Rob then it’s plan B.

Rob Warner Live Podcast.
We all pay a few dollars per episode and he runs it in sync with the Discovery Channel.
You have two devices:
a) Shows live feed by Discovery but with sound muted.
b) Volume up to 11 of the Rob Warner live WC podcast.
Are you in?

Crazy how many people use these stupid little phones for content. No need for 2 devices on a computer, just have the tabs open. That said, syncing will be a lot more difficult than you think. Also, if Rob is doing this... Is he at the races? In a hotel? Just at home? Discovery won't be keen on a non-employee dunking on their broadcast basically from the pits. They will try to catch him out at any copyright opportunity possible. But again, syncing will be super difficult with 2 separate streams. And of course, the only way to try to lock them together would be Warner just recording audio over the Discovery stream he's watching... Which he can't do due to copyright.

Long story short. They have to hire Warner. Any replacement they snag will be obliterated by the community and it will be a direct attack on their bottom line. PARTICULARLY if they move to a paid model and it ain't free (likely considering they are a media company... not a drink company). So we all vote with our wallets, most likely. But yes, if they don't hire Warner, give em hell, loud and long.

Rob, don’t be shy with the salary requirements - we all know they NEED you

The ending of that got dangerously close to an ED commercial. 'talk to your doctor today about e-bikes' Now I can get it up... The mountain...

I liked the video, not a commerical for me. It is the human side of Rob and he undoubtedly is the VOICE OF THIS SPORT. We need you Rob and Discovery needs you too !

Love Rob, One of the most important people to mountain biking. Hoping he gets inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame one day.

It was a really fun film to make. After a year of working with Rob on the YouTube channel it was good to tell his story in a more serious way. It could have easily been a 2 hour documentary with all the gold we filmed.

Would watch the two hours... thanks for this, and love the vids on Rob's channel.

"I'll just watch the first few minutes or I'll be late for work" I'm late for work.
I'm a Warner fan, he likes a laugh at others and himself, good bloke. Oh, it's a motor not an engine.
  • 1 1
"it's a motor not an engine" - technically correct, the best kind of correct.
If you'd been around earlier we'd be calling those things on the road 'Enginebikes', the thing Warner's shilling a Motorbike, and wouldn't have to clarify a Bike is meat-powered.

Didn't watch the video but the write-up is terrible. Makes it sound like Rob only likes Ebikes and that's why I should buy a shimano Ebike motor....um no thanks

You sneaky basterd, it took me 10minutes and 30 seconds to finally realize you're actually trying to sell an e-bike advert. Never trust a man with an eyeliner.

Loved this! Don't like the loud mouth Warner always felt it was for the cameras but this is sincere, you can see his love for riding and it's what I want to see. I feel inspired which in my book means it is a success.

Anyone commenting about paid content yet? Finally arrived.

10 minutes into the video you realize this is just an ad for the Shimano EP8 motor.

I'd happily pay discovery if robs in

I'm still not quite sure if this is a joke... I was truly waiting for a snide comment at the end. Happy for him though and I'm sure it's only a matter of decades before I'll be joining that club.

You need to do a blah blah run with Claudio Rob, that would make for a superb video, im waiting!!!!

He just needed some assistance : )
when is he gonna finnish the Giant retro build on his channel ?
  • 1 0
He has probably forgotten, when you get old your memory gets fucked up.
  • 3 0
Is this Robs video application to Discovery?
  • 3 2
I thought at least it would be the three peaks as in Snowdon, Scafell pike and Ben nevis not the three peaks of robs career..
  • 1 0
LOL that is funny.. thanks for that....

You don't need an e-bike either just an F250 and all your friends
  • 2 0
That Vitus is a pretty convincing e-bike however.

Glad I discovered this I'd of gone red with the bull anyone else would have spouted.
