Beginner Skills Clinic Our beginner skills session covers proper form and techniques to maintain traction in Downieville's variable terrain, allowing riders to have more fun on the No-Drop Rides. Expect to learn about bike set-up, proper braking, shifting and pedaling methods, how to corner smoothly, and how to lift your front wheel and roll safely off a 12" ledge.

Intermediate Skills Clinic Our intermediate skills clinic is best for riders who have mastered the skills listed above and are ready to learn how to maneuver their bikes up and over obstacles. Obstacles include rocks, logs, roots, ruts and drops upto 24".

You may be a little tired, hot and dusty if this is your first time... but know a crystal clear river, delicious food and 49 Wines are all waiting for you back in town. Saturday 2PM - No-Drop Ride: NEW Pack Saddle Trail (Flow Trail) & Upper Butcher (more flowy!) please RSVP
Come check out the new flowy Pack Saddle Trail and Upper Butcher! This is a No-Drop ride, but riders should have previous mountain biking experience and enough stamina and fitness to descend about 4,600 feet back to town. We will be at elevation, but we will move at a pace that is comfortable for the whole group. There is about a 500ft climb at the bottom of Butcher, but for the most part this is all downhill. The bottom portion of Butcher and Third Divide are very technical, so we will hike-a-bike any sections that are too advanced for the group. Yuba Expedition Shuttles are $20 per rider and have been booked by Mountain Miss Fit. Shuttle proceeds benefit the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

Sunday 9AM - Intermediate+ Clinic & Ride: Downieville Downhill please RSVP[
Want to ride the traditional Downieville Downhill? This ride will begin with a 2 hour pre-ride skills assessment and clinic at the top of the mountain, covering form and technique to assist riders in maintaining traction in all types of terrain and maneuver up and over obstacles found in the trail. Riders will then take turns following our leader or being followed by our sweep, for on-trail pointers and encouragement. We will start down Sunrise Trail, head down Butcher, Third Divide, and then finishing on First Divide. This ride is best for those that have mastered the beginner skills described above, the stamina to descend 4,600 feet of elevation and tackle the moderate 500 foot climb. Ride includes a $20 ride to the top with Yuba Expeditions, a Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship annual membership ($50 value), trail map ($15 value), and on-trail lunch.

Sunday 9AM - No-Drop Ride: North Yuba Trail please RSVP
"Not all mountain biking in Downieville is shuttle accessed. In fact, some of the best trails require you to earn your turns. North Yuba is a prime example. 16 miles in length, this trail offers a great cross-section of the rugged beauty of the North Yuba river canyon. Twisting and turning through lush forest, flowing streams, rocky outcroppings and ribbons of manicured dirt, its makes for an excellent cross-country adventure. Or ride it in sections to get a quick singletrack fix. The newest 6-mile section was built by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. Officially completed in 2011, it connects the existing historic mining trail all the way into the town of Downieville. North Yuba Trail rides great in both directions so it makes for a fun, challenging out and back. Though the trail generally follows the river, expect numerous short, gut-buster climbs and fast, ripping descents. Starting either at the North Yuba trailhead in Downieville or Rocky Rest Campground, simply ride: out and back! Combine with Halls Ranch and Fiddle Creek for a 32 mile epic loop." - Yuba Expeditions

EVENT PARTNERS & SISTERS:

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship - SierraTrails.org
Formed in 2003, the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) is a volunteer driven 501c3 non-profit whose primary goal is the maintenance and enhancement of the trail systems in Plumas and Sierra Counties. SBTS employs as many as 15 full-time, seasonal employees, all of which are Plumas and Sierra County residents, with a payroll of just under $400,000 for 2010. In addition to a paid trail crew, SBTS has donated over 30,000 hours of volunteer labor to both the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests, maintaining over 30 trails, including the creation of 25 miles of new trails. While these trails see over 200,000 users per year, they continue to maintain a level “A” standing, due in large part to all the hard work of SBTS staff and volunteers. This organization is not only a shining example of what a small group of dedicated, passionate people can do for an area, it is a demonstration of economic efficiency when no alternatives exist. All of our product sponsors’ and volunteer monies go directly to trail maintenance and development. Donations are multiplied by over 1500% through organized volunteer labor and in-kind contributions.

This is a great place to ride. I have been there three times ( including once this year) and intend to go again next year.

But more importantly: events like this are growing the sport. In the last five years I have seen more females that are riding serious bikes, on real trails and hauling @ss, than in my first fifteen years combined.

When it comes to trail access, there is strength in numbers.

thanks @saidrick we appreciate your respect and kudos. It is true, women are now representing over half of the demographic for mountain biking! We are trying our best to include as many riding groups, clubs, teams, athletes, coaches, you name it on Shine. Please send more sisters our way if you can! shineridersco.com I need all the help I can get with this!
