Cannondale BES - Series Final Preview

Round 5 of the Cannondale British Enduro Series (BES) at Innerleithen will take place this weekend in the heart of the Tweed Valley on October the 8th and 9th.

Innerleithen is the historic home of downhill mountain biking here in the UK with over 20 years of racing history stored away in the vaults. More recently Enduro has taken a grip of the 7Stanes Forestry Commission’s Scotland network of trails and hillsides. More so on the Golfie which is the range of hills on the other side of the village and is now said to be busier than Glentress which is several miles up the road from Innerleithen. How busy? Busy enough for Alpine Bikes, the local bike shop to be open between 09:00 and 17:00 every Sunday, that busy!

Cannondale British Enduro Series 2016 Round 4 - Eastridge Day Two

The event weekend starts off on Saturday with riders making the 60-minute transition from the Forestry Commission Downhill Car Park to the top of the Golfie to attack the first of two stages that day; Repeat Offender and Waterworld. Practice is in the morning followed by racing in the afternoon with riders leaving the finish arena and riding out through the town. Saturdays overall times will be added together and used for seeding of those riders on Sunday with the fastest riders going off last in each category.

Sunday will see riders again practicing in the morning before they race three stages in the afternoon. The stages are Prospacer, Alistair Lee’s and the Cresta/Gold Run which will finish into the finish arena. Live timing instantly combines the stage times for each rider, meaning when a rider crosses the line, we can announce and display their exact time and current position in the race.

Podiums will run immediately after the last elite rider has crossed the line for this weekend's event, followed by the series overall where the British Enduro Series Champions of 2016 will be crowned.

Cannondale British Enduro Series 2016 Round 4 - Eastridge Day Two

Continental Tyres Elite Men
. Johnson is unstoppable unless he meets a tree. A crash on Sunday morning at Eastridge after he won seeding has closed the gap between him and a very consistent Shucksmith. Whiles will need some lady luck to get in front of Shucksmith, we know he has the bike handling skills to pay the bills but he is over 100 points a drift of Shucksmith. Is that too much?

Leigh Johnson - Marin Stans Enduro Team - 667 points.
Sam Shucksmith - Whyte Bikes - 655 points.
Nikki Whiles - Marin Stans Enduro Team - 544 points.

Continental Tyres Elite Women. A clean sheet is impressive with Moseley winning seeding and each event as a whole. That is still some going to avoid any mechanicals and crashes over the three events she has competed in. The race is on for second place with Cook and Gill quite evenly matched on paper according to their results at the BES on RootsandRain.

Tracy Moseley - Trek Factory Racing - 750 points.
Becky Cook - Tred-Shop.com - 612 points.
Martha Gill - Marin Stans Enduro Team - 530 points.

Flare Clothing Women. Kay riding a Stanton Hardtail had a nightmare at Ae Forest in the cold, wet and windy conditions, puncturing in both seeding and race runs putting her out of the points. Rennie had a career best at Afan with a third place and she will need to replicate that or better at the final to stay in front of Tyson-Bloor who will be strong on the transitions this weekend.

Heather Kay - Stanton Bikes - 565 points.
Jennifer Rennie - Army Enduro MTB Team - 525 points.
Adel Tyson-Bloor - Cannondale/Sugoi - 520 points.

DMR Bikes Youth Men. Parton has made each step of the podium at every round with Afan being the first and only time on that top step this year. This puts him in a confident position with 68 points clear lead before racing starts. Rollason had a shakey start to the season but has turned that around with a second place at round three and a first place at round four. He is currently on a roll! Chisolm showed his pedigree at Dyfi by taking the win by a huge 15 second margin. Innerleithen will be a big day out like Dyfi so expect the Scottish rider to aim high come Sunday's podium.

Oliver Parton - Cube/Pedalabikeaway/RAW Sports - 765 points.
Harvey Rollason - NX2 - 697 points.
Cameron Chisolm - Stephens Racing - 573 points.

Super Alloy Racing Springs Junior Men. Harvard has two first place trophies in his cabinet from rounds one and three means he has a 220 point lead and the series wrapped up? Campbell is progressing with a fifth, a fourth and lastly two-thirds. Can he grab himself a second place or even the top spot?

Kyle Harvard - Team Skene - 840 points.
Adam Campbell - Bikeglovestore.com/Hot Pursuits Cycles - 620 points.
Jake Gilfillan - 592 points.

Sombrio Senior Men. Jones with three clear wins in the series will be removed by force from entering Seniors next year and will be racing in Elite. Local boy Summers has the legs and knowledge of the Innerleithen hillside. His best result was at Dyfi so the big weekenders like this one will suit him down to the ground. Griffiths with two third places at the last two rounds is progressing well, not enough to take the top spot overall but enough to challenge Summers for second place, only 33 points behind. All to play for!

Charles Jones - Giant Swansea/Tredz - 830 points.
Lewis Summers - Stephens Racing - 627 points.
Luther Griffiths - The Trailhead - 594 points.

Abus Master Men. Silvester takes a 26 point lead into the final which looks close until you realise he has only raced three events, winning rounds one and three. Wakeley has raced four events, remember it’s your best 4 out of 5 events that count to the series overall. That said, Wakeley still took the win at round 4 in a stacked field. Jones was a dominant force in downhill and more recently in Enduro. With two seconds and a third (yes he has only raced three events) he is looking for that elusive win.

Hywel Silvester - Team Skene - 717 points.
Simon Wakeley - 691 points.
Ajay Jones -Mojo Suspension/Team Skene - 570 points.

X-Fusion Veteran Men. Titley has three wins to his name already this season, as well as finishing second in British Cycling’s National Downhill Mountain Bike Series - The BDS. With a 293 point lead, the series is already his before he even leaves the pits. Sadler with three third places and a fourth place will undoubtedly take home silver in the overall. Whilst Webster even after a career best of second place at Eastridge will be looking to keep the wolves from the door that re back in fourth and fifth place.

Andrew Titley - Bad Ass Bikes/Ergon/Intense/Maxxis - 970 points.
Andrew Sadler - Hotlines UK/NS Bikes/No Bikes/WTB - 677 points.
Richard Webster - The Trailhead - 530 points.

Kore Components Grand Veteran Men. Cameron has a lead of 148 points so sits with confidence in that top spot with the help of one win in the series at rd 3 Afan. Baines started the season so well with the second spot at Ae Forest. He’s been on every other step since then apart from the No1 slot that he is so hungry for. Corkill who missed Afan after scoring top marks at Ae Forest in Scotland could be the dark horse and a good score could leap frog him into the second spot.

Alex Cameron - 815 points.
Kevin Baines - Hope Technology - 677 points.
Mike Corkill - 533 points.

Stanton Bikes Hardtail Men. Dun with two wins and a second place is a whopping 200 points up on his nearest rival. Watson has a 100% hit rate in destroying the field. Racing the first two rounds and scoring top marks. Fieldsend has raced three and always been on the podium with Adam being his trump card where he finished in second place.

Tom Dunn - Bikeglovestore.com/Centrax/Hot Pursuits Cycles - 700 points.
Oliver Watson - 500 points.
Adam Fieldsend - RAFCA - 485 points.

Attempting to race/survive prospacer in the rain still gives me the fear!

Great trails but a bit disappointing to see the same ones popping up time and again in races.
