Fox Downpour Jacket.

Fox Downpour Jacket.
With the wettest January in the UK since records began in 1910 we welcomed with open arms the aptly named Fox Downpour Jacket. The 4-way stretch synthetic material comes with a 10,000mm waterproof rating which is at the top end of the scale of being rainproof and waterproof under light pressure. Seam sealing/taping is in place on every single join of the jacket, then add in the molded wrist straps with Velcro attachments to batten down the hatches on top of your gloves to keep the entire upper body bone dry, no matter what mother nature threw at us.
Fox have taken care of ventilation of the jacket with the material scoring a moderate 10,000mm breathability rating and adding a lengthy 20cm long zipped vent under each arm, just note there is no back mesh this is a straight hole through once unzipped. On the rear back panel there is a 22cm wide meshed vent to ensure more heat and moisture can disperse.
Two large zipped front pockets take care of any groceries you may be carrying, the left one of which houses a further internal, orange coloured pocket. This is large enough to fit an iPhone in there, with a neat small slit to route your headphones internally. A further neat trick is the elasticated waist draw string and toggle in both pockets, internally housed to eliminate them catching on any branches and being caked in dirt.

The fit itself is cut close and the medium as seen here was a snug fit when wearing a single base layer underneath. This jacket is not designed to keep you warm so for those of you that like to layer up or wear elbow pads then I would suggest going up a size to accommodate. The removable by zip hood is not large enough to fit over your helmet and is designed to fit under. Personally I have never been a fan of hoods, aka parachutes on a trail jacket. If you are attacking the trail hard enough, no matter how wet or cold it is you should be warm enough. Therefore not running the hood, allowing those all important helmet vents to do their job.
Looking to use this jacket on your daily commute? The reflective Fox Head logo on the chest, Fox wording on the back and the small darts above the elbow on each arm are a good start though maybe think about purchasing the yellow version if your hitting the tarmac.
Bottom line is if it is going to rain for forty days and forty nights whilst you are out on your bike or if your names Noah then this jacket is going to keep you dry in any downpour. Just start saving your pennies now for that £160 price tag.
