Lock-Ons. There really is only one name when we talk about Lock-On Grips. 99 percent of us don't live in sunny California. Rain, Rain go away and come again another day.
Unless you've a set of ODI's that is.25 years ago if you had a set of "Mushrooms" down at the local BMX track you were the dogs bits. Zero blisters meant you were shredding all day long to the envy of your mates.
Old Skool and back in the day: Magic Mushrooms, not to be confused with the ones you find down the local woods
2008 and nothings changed. Say Lock-On and the next letters outta your gob are, "ODI". They invented these and it's them we have to thank for keeping us trackside and outta the bleechers, away from the trees and on course.
For those of you that still wire your grips on, "Are you on crack cocaine"? Lock-ons are the only way forward kids and if you're into holding something of a narrower diameter for that personnel feel then the Ruffian is the one.
Ruffian
I'm used to something a little fatter but don't get a complex, I'm sure you've heard, "Size doesn't matter"...(
Editor's Note: Si has small hands so it only feels bigger, not to true spec.)
Yes we all know they have been around for ages, we're still catching up here in Europe and the Gold and Pink are new to us this year.
Pictured without the lock-ons to show the internals, you get a long thin nylon sleeve which the rubber grip is bonded to. The lock-on end collars then clamp onto the nylon tube via small diameter Allen keys, one on each collar. Tighten them up and "Bobs your Uncle and Fannys your Aunt". Don't forget your end caps as "Coring" i.e sticking your bar into you is one of the worst injuries you can have. If this happens it's like removing a cork from the bottle, only difference is that cork bit is your flesh and blood. According to Dr. Singh from Birmingham it's a b45t4rd to sort out.
ODI state they make their grips in house in the U.S.A. None of this sourcing the cheapest materials and labor possible from the Far East. That is what we like to see, I bet they are allowed to fly the stars and stripes flag outside their offices. Over here in the U.K the do gooders call the "Filth" (Feds) and we can be asked to take the St.Georges or Union Jack flag down. Long live America I say and the ability to be proud of your country! We're too politically correct over here.

well my bro's bike corked me and he had old grips that were bmx style without the big ring thing on the inside of the grip (you know on the left grip the big circle thing on the right side of it) anyway this grip had rubber over the ends of the bar and they still corked me
I got a gold/black one and after four or five times of DH riding, the whole outer rubber sleeve just COME OFF the inner plastic.
I just give it back to HK dealer!
