Working in a bike shop means I’m constantly surrounded by bike porn, especially in Slam69, so this year, as I’m racing the full UK Enduro Series, I figured, much to the other half’s dismay, I needed a new bike…

After a few months of looking and drooling I settled on the Mondraker Dune Carbon XR frame. After another month or so of waiting for the frame to come into stock it finally turned up, of course it felt just like Christmas! First thing to do was to send it to the awesome guys at FusionMX to get custom graphics and full frame protection put on. They covered on the yellow graphics with orange which was going to start the colour scheme for the build.

Once the frame returned from Fusion it was time to sort the rest of the build. As the Dune came with the Fox Float X2 air shock on the back it was only right to match it up with a set of 170mm Fox 36 Float R2C2 forks up front, so I gave the guys at Mojo Suspension a shout and they hooked me up with a set, even giving them a quick tune to my ideal spec’s so they were ready to go as soon as I received them.

Next up was the wheels, I’ve always run Hope hubs so it was a no brainer to wait a little longer for the new Pro4 hubs to be released and Im glad I did! As with all Hope parts, the attention to detail is second to none and the new orange colour way matched the decals from Fusion perfectly! On my last bike I ran quite narrow (22.5mm internal) rims so this time I wanted to try something a bit wider. I decided on the Easton Arc27 rims which seemed to be the right width to strength to weight ratio and the best bit was they already made decal kits for them… in orange! Spokes wise, I kept it rather simple with DT Swiss double butted Competition spokes and, of course, orange Dartmoor Bikes alloy nipples.

For the gearing, initially, I was torn between Shimano XTR or XT but after a bit of thought I settled on XT mainly because of the cost to replace if I smash a mech or something. When it came to cranks the only two options I really considered were the Race Face Next SL and SixC, I decided to go for the reviewers favourite, the Next SL and direct mount narrow wide 32 tooth chainring running on a 30mm Hope BB. As it was going to be a race bike I wanted to make sure my chain really wasn’t going to come off so in addition to the narrow wide chainring I fitted the Gamut Trail SXR guide, I’ve used Gamut guide on all my bikes for a good few years now and have been very impressed with them, so I had to go for another one.

For the cockpit I went for the stunning Easton Haven 32mm stem with a 35mm bar clamp as it is one of the only ones you can get that’s close to the stock Mondraker 30mm stem, its also one of the prettiest stems I’ve ever seen! Bars wise I went for the Dartmoor Lightning 35mm bars in full 800mm width and on the end I put the Ergon GE1 grips. For stoppers I went for the best, the Shimano Saint on 180mm Ice Tech rotors

To finish off what has been a dream build I went for the KS LEV Integra seat post with 150mm of drop topped off with an SDG Duster F RL Ti/Alloy saddle and finally some tubeless WTB Vigilante tyres, Tough/High Grip for the front and Tough/Fast Rolling for the back. And last but by no means least, the best mudguard out there, The Mudhugger!!
