bigquotesAs winter came to an end, trail after trail started to open up in Nelson. Bashing through the snow to get first tracks of the season on the freshest melted out trails. With the riding so amazing I called up good buddy and long time filmer, Mitch Cheek of Solos Productions to see if he was available to capture some of it. Eager as always he was ready to go. The weather in May was setting record breaking highs leaving trails going from snow right to dust. It was time to hit the lake and pray that we don't have too many forest fires this summer. I thought we had missed our chance to shoot Sitkum Creek trail but without a doubt, 'June'uary hit and it was like mother nature was watering our trails to perfect tackiness daily. Mitch showed up right with the rain and it was back on! - Kurt Sorge

bigquotesI have wanted to film on Sitkum (formerly know as Downhill Jam) for a while now as it is one of my favourite trails in town and just down the lake from where I grew up. It is also the first trail I rode on a mountain bike. My dad and I pedalled or most likely pushed our Walmart hardtail XC bikes with V-brakes up the steep logging road to the 3km trail head. It was a huge eye opener as a young kid and as terrifying as the trail was back then I really enjoyed it. It was also the first trail my riding buddies from the early days and I had worked on. From then until now I have seen the trail evolve and as the bikes keep getting better so does the trail. From riding my first mountain bike trail on a BMX with cantilever brakes and pegs that would get caught on stumps sending me flying over the bars, to riding Sitkum on an XC bike with my dad, to stealing my older brother's full suspension bike, to working all summer to afford my own dream bike, and finally becoming a sponsored rider. Just as I have evolved the bikes keep getting better. And one of my favourite parts of a bike these days are the tires. The confidence, traction, smile and everything else in-between that a fresh set of Schwalbe Magic Marys give me is a pretty awesome feeling. Hope you enjoy, here's to Downhill Jammin'. - Kurt Sorge

Who bonks into rock gardens?....WHO DOES THAT?!

For me that was some of the most raw talent I have ever seen on a bike. He completely shredded the trail and yet he looked totally under control. Amazing. Yea Sorge.

Kurt has been super amazing of awhile - and in my opinion deserved to win 2012 & 2015 Rampage. While judging may have not been perfect he absolutely stomped it. #KURTDONTGETTHEPROPSHEDESERVES

I've ridden that trail and he somehow makes it look flowy. It is not flowy in my experience. Skill
  • + 3
@conv3rt: Haha I was thinking the same thing! a great trail and only lacks flow due to my skill level obviously!
  • + 2
@conv3rt: After winning rampage you can make anything look flowy

@NiloB: excellent point. Back-flipping cliffs must give you the confidence to nose bonk into rock and root strewn steeps, or so it seems. I know it's a tire ad but I'm more focused on finding that kid around town to give him a man-highfive.

After listening to that, I have the urge to go stomp kittens.

At first I thought it was Fred Durst.

I wonder who of the FEST-boys whould be fastest down a WC-track..
  • + 7
Probably Kyle Strait based on what Zink has written.
  • + 3
But Lacondeguy used to race WC...
  • + 2
@Callum-H: Strait did as well. He had some respectable results as well.

you guys forgot all about vink. he would smoke the rest of the fest series easily on a dh track
  • + 4
 Vink.
  • + 2
Strait. But he's not on the FEST series circuit. He rode a leg of it. Vink, of the full timers easily. He has a top 10, possibly a top 5 just off the top of my head without looking at actual results. But he was on the king turd Trek Session 10.

Merciful god. That has no relation whatsoever to the sad tootling around I do on my 29er after work... Completely different activity, rider possibly of a different species.
  • + 1
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Yet another shreddit with some \m/ music?

What kinda crazy thinks combining music that shreds as hard as Sorge leads to great things?

Same kinda crazy that bonks into rock gardens I'd imagine. \mm/

Big bikes have no place on enduro trails...8in bikes are no fun...they are not trendy...now all you people who sold yours for the latest 27+ sled will have to sell your soul to come back to the darkside!!!!!
  • + 4
That seemed world cup elite fast!
  • + 3
He rode THAT on a Walmart bike?! I'd crash and burn all over that trail even on a proper DH rig.
