Source: Life Cycles If you thought riding at Whistler had its challenges, try hitting it up at night. I am not talking about a leisurely ride in the bike part with a head lamp. We're talking about about massive stand alone light fixtures and backdrops, full access to one of the most renowned bike parks in the world and a team of guys to get the lights on and the cameras rolling.
Click here to find out about the Life Cycles' Whistler Shoot...On September 7th it all started. The Life Cycles crew arrived in Whistler with Thomas Vanderham to capture 1 thing and 1 thing only, some of the sickest night riding footage you have ever seen. A 7 day shoot ensured that if the weather decided to go sour like it does on the West Coast, the Life Cycle's guys would be prepared, but according to Derek Frankowski all the days went good. "We were hoping for some rain or even some fog for the shoot" said Derek,"but we never got quite lucky enough."
Feast your eyes on the Whistler shoot with Life Cycles and Thomas Vanderham:
Nothing could be harder than a filming crew of a couple guys trying to run up and down the hill with camera gear, stands, lights, backdrops, diffusers, cables and so forth. So the guys at Life Cycles got lucky with a 4 person lighting team. With a lighting setup consisting of every temperature between 10k and 2k the Life Cycles crew had true control of the look and feel of their footage. For comparisons sake 10k lights are usually used for Hollywood shoots.
Derek Frankowski figures they are about 95% done shooting footage, and then its to the editing room to get everything lined up in the time line. "The video is going to be true to the original mood that we wanted. You would think something shot over such a long period of time would drift a bit off track a bit, but every clip we look at and every section we see looks exactly how we imagined it. I am so stoked on this footage."
Life Cycles is set to consist of 12 segments all together and will feature a in depth bonus section featuring "the making of all the sections."
