@backyardfreerider Just so you know, the way to do it is how we did 2 weeks ago. It's dirt cheap in September if you fly United to Vancouver. Here's the setup:
Pick AM flights leaving on Saturday to Vancouver out of ATL. In September, they're $500 round trip and really direct.
Don't take a checked bag. Get a 45 Liter duffel and a small backpack. Helmet fits in the soft duffel. All you need as carry on.
Rent from Whistler Demo Center for a 3 day package. Buy the insurance.
Take the shuttle bus to Whistler and be there in plenty of time to check in/hook up with buds/go solo.
Eat at Gone Bakery for breakfast (Paleo Breakfast has everything on earth for about $5 US that would cost $12 in ATL.
Furniture Warehouse for dinner - All menu items $5 (Canadian dollars, so about $4 US)

I spent $950 for my entire trip of 3 days in the park, rode in the pouring rain on Sunday with all the trails to ourselves and the place was as bone dry as Big Creek on it's driest day. Did laps non-stop from first chair to closing.

After 3 days, my body was toast and I was ecstatic. Me & my buddy blew up two derailleurs on $8k carbon Demo bikes and went through 2 sets of brake pads. Take your pedals (if you ride clips), helmet and fenders. It would have cost us a fortune to fly our bikes in and replace all those parts. Came out cheaper and got better bikes than 95% of the people in the park. The V10 I rode on day 1 even had ENVE wheels.

I think if you went for 4 days, one would have to be a rest day. Do it.

I did a great dirt bag trip at Whistler this year. Made it out there this september and got a fall season pass for about $200 US, rode 7 out of 8 days. Couldn't stop riding there, especially with good weather. Drove up, Camped/ stayed at hostels, brought our own bikes,11 day bike trip for under $700. There are ways to make it affordable.

Yeah, it's funny. I had not one minute to give for night life. We'd wake up early for breakfast at that bakery, go back to the room, poop, grab the bikes ready to roll at 9am sharp, stare at the lift for a few minutes and go. Lift close. Eat, shower, close eyes, wake up, repeat. Oh, and there is an awesome little sushi place down in Creekside too. We had a local with us, but were still surprised by being able to eat cheap there.

There definitely are ways to do it cheap. I hucked my sleeping bag into a pile of shit weeds and ferns over one of the banks of the free dirt parking lot once this season....Shoulda seen the look on people's faces when we crawled up over the edge as the parking lot was filled. Oh. Yeah we were haggard too.

My last trip was about $1500 for 11 days, 9 days of riding. 3 people. Fly frontier Denver to Bellingham $150 round trip Tuesdays and Thursdays all summer. $75 each way for additional luggage (EVOC bike bag loaded to about 95lb, 100lb weight limit, all my gear and clothes, didn't have to hold anything out even brought my laptop with movies loaded). $200 for my share of rental on a pickup for the entire trip, nice to have your own vehicle (next time I might get a van that I can sleep in!). Stop at Fred Meyers in B-ham for food shopping, I went all out here, $300 for my portion of the food for the whole trip. We met up with some friends there and shared a condo, $300 for my share of the 11 days. Tickets were the most expensive thing at like almost $400 and if the trip had been any longer I probably would have gotten a season pass. Maybe a few more bucks on little stuff like Schawarmas from Tony's or the after-ride-beer at GLC. Best room for improvement would be to buy a van and park it in Bellingham, drive that up and stay in it. I could do 2 trips at that cost!

I thought it said Snow Summit and got super excited.

Seems like SoCal would really benefit from a place similar to this...what's up Big Bear and Snow Summit with those nibble jumps?

US Forest Service makes places like this nearly impossible anywhere in the states. Try Angel Fire, that's about the best you're gonna get in the US

Great riding Dylan! Super smooth as usual. Hopefully I will get back to ride with you again next year.

Just looked it up. It's a beauty, although without trying to be funny, looks a bit like a Session.

 Fade To Black.
  • 5 0
Waited til our last day for Fade to Black to dry out and then wound up not doing the drop to berm to drop to step up...was so tired and worn out at that point, I was worried I'd miss something just being lazy. Smile

So I guess I gotta go back.
