On the weekend of August 8, 9, 10, mountain bike enthusiasts from across the Lower Mainland and British Columbia (and further) make their way by ferry from Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast. After a short bus ride up the coast to Halfmoon Bay, participants camp overnight and then over Saturday and Sunday, make their way back to Langdale, cycling 100 km on some of the best intermediate cross-country mountain bike trails in the province.

Now in its 14th successful year, the annual event attracts spirited individuals of all ages – the youngest male participant was 11 years old and in 2014, there are already several young-at-heart participants including those in 70’s. All share the love of mountain biking the Sunshine Coast’s amazing trails: “I have mountain biked throughout North America and the world and these are my favorite anywhere.Robbin McKinney, founder and owner of Great Explorations, organizer of the event.

The event has contributed over $5,000 to local clubs for trail building and maintenance. The route has changed each year as new trails are added to the extensive network on the sunshine coast.

The event features camping at Porpoise Bay Park, where live music and a salmon bbq take place on the Saturday night. Ride registration is now open.

"If you are looking for something to do on the second weekend in August, then load up the car and head to the Sunshine Coast for some trail riding." version 1

"If you are looking for something to do on the second weekend in August (understand :riding a 26", 45 pounds, big bike: throwing some whips, having some weird discussions on the chair lift, trying to hit on pretty girls in the village, drink some beers at the end of the day, charging down rock gardens, partying hard, having a lot of fun, feeling alive) then load up the car and head to the Whistler bike park for the firsts days of Crankworx Whistler !." Version 2
