@Session603: You obviously never participated in a high level race... I'm a FIS level 2 official, did a few UCI world cups back in the day. All medics are fully qualified, most (if not all) are first responders or emergency doctors. Check your facts. Even if you don't see them, the entire course has eyes on it and is in constant radio communication. Even lower level sanctioned events follow the same safety rules. Race does not start unless there is fully qualified medic on course. In skiing you need two medics at the top of the course.

@Session603: Seriously, you can do more damage than good and potentially injure other racers on course. UCI, FIS etc have rules for a very good reason. Been dealing with this for decades. Ask any medics/officials on course and they will tell you the same thing. I witnessed to many close calls to count.. if you have kids (as I do) take an officials course and volunteer at races then you will understand why.

@Franziskaner: Agreed. Never touch an injured athlete unless you are an official medic. We have to consistently tell this to parents during races.

It sucks but it's part of the sport... did not seem to be an issue during the race. All the best to Rachel, she's a beast!

Hard work and training is a must but genetics play a big role at that level. Some could train just as hard and never achieve those levels.

Shit that sucks, always wondered what she was doing. She made me a custom vest way back...lost it and never got over it. That vest was so rad, and I beat the shit out of it. What a shame...RIP

Jared Graves Diagnosed with a Brain Tumor
I may be missing something but having a tumor does not make it cancer. He may be lucky and it could just be a benign tumor. As far as I know he never said cancer. In either case still scary stuff. All the best.

So sad.. just shows you we could all get something like this. It's really just bad luck. It's so important to get checked regularly by your Doctor and NEVER be embarrassed about asking questions or getting something checked that you feel is not right. This is why we need to spend more money on research. It never seems that important until you or a family member gets sick. Lots of dedicated people out there are working hard to make these kind of things a thing of the past. But most research and University are grossly underfunded. Fight hard, trust your medical team and you can beat this, all the best.
