Spotted (Again): Santa Cruz's New XC Race Bike - Albstadt XC World Cup 2021
@won-sean-animal-chin: I just don't want you to smash your nads next time you have to perform an emergency dismount due to slick roots on a modern xc course. Bike manufactures are living in 2019 with these standover numbers... it's time to get with the program.

Bike industry, are you listening? The short baby-boomer dad-bod e-bikers aren't gonna buy another xc-race bike until you guys get your shit together and offer modern geometry with adequate standover to accommodate their small legs. #ouchmybutthurts

@won-sean-animal-chin: yeah, totes. I'd probably be way faster if I had more standover clearance #ouchmybutthurts

@MaplePanda: to each their own.... he prioritizes standover clearance so he can firmly plant his feet on the ground after fumbling over a wet root at low speed on his electronic moped. Gravel grinders have been moving in this direction for years now, so i can see why Animal-Chin would look to them for setup tips.

@won-sean-animal-chin: wow, you're real smart guy, huh? Maybe PB could recruit you to write an article extolling the virtues of these progressive sloping top-tube designs... probably won't catch on though.... too radical for the masses. Have you tried clipless pedals? (Don't let the name fool you... you actually do "clip" in) What's next, horseless carriages?

@won-sean-animal-chin: you stand on the descents? Seems a bit unconventional, but I'll allow it. Personally, I just put my reverb down and remain seated through the wet rooty tech for lower center of gravity. Have you tried tubeless tires yet? There's a company called Stands No-tubes that makes a conversion kit. You should give it a shot. And if you like that, boy are you gonna love sloping top tubes... they really let you throw your xc bike around when you're high posting the descents... because of what is known as "standover clearance"... it's hard to explain...look it up.

@won-sean-animal-chin: not really sure what standover has to do with saddle height, but ok sure....

Why would modern xc courses dictate more standover? How much time do you typically spend standing around and straddling the top tube during an xc race?
