My journey so farSo started the day pretty much exactly as I have for the last couple of weeks, got out of bed, showered, ate breakfast then go out to take some photo's. I recently have been taking photos with some new settings whereas in the past I would have just switched it to the 'sport' mode. I can definitely see how my shots are improving when I compare them to some of my earlier shots. Anyway back to freeriding....
Today I captured a picture I really really liked, this is the only time I've ever done it!
This is what has made me want to write this. So it was a pretty exciting moment, others might not find it so brilliant but to me this shot was special! I like how the lighting is in this picture, I love how the trees and ferns make the rider stand out!
Another one which I'm quite pleased with is this one.
How I got into photographyThere are many reasons of why I got into photography. One of the main reasons I did get into it was because of my sister, she decided to buy a camera; a Nikon D3000 (the one I have right now) I was in hospital when she did get it, she just took a picture of loads of things and I thought hey that's a pretty cool thing to do! So first thing I did when I left the hospital was go about taking pictures in the countryside, couple of weeks later I see some of my friends doing downhill freeriding and I thought to myself hey you know what? I could take a photo of them doing it! (this is sounding like an autobiography... LOL) so anyway this is one of the first pictures I ever took of downhill riding.
I quite like how this picture turned out in the end as I kept blurring the photos. I also thought that this would have been a better photo if I was standing on the other side...
Trying out different anglesThis one was suggested by Connor Rodgers.
I wasn't too keen on this one as I'm not exactly the tallest guy around but in the end I thought it turned out okay! The only thing I wish is that I'd get feedback on some of my work, I guess that's going to come when I actually take some eye catching pictures.
Mistakes I've madeAlong with all the common mistakes not getting the whole of the rider really bugged me.
I've made this mistake countless of times, after a while I thought, hang on why am I making the same mistakes? So after a while I realized... I'm way too tense when I take photos! I did get photos which I thought weren't so bad for an amateur photographer. I really don't like calling myself a photographer because way too many people call themselves photographers when really they're nothing but a bunch of average people with a camera. Anyway here are the shots.
You get the point!
Developing as a photographerI've done DH freeriding photography for the best part of a year now and I have loved EVERY single bit of it. Even the painfully long hours trying to work Photoshop and the boring rides (or walks when my poor old beloved BMX is broken) to Marslton because you know why? Its been worth it, its made my love for photography grow even more and now whenever I see a really good photo here on Pinkbike or any website for that matter, I always take the time to credit the photographer & tell them what I love about the shot or how I'm jealous that they have an amazing camera! In the future I hope to be a photographer (obviously) with my own company who specialize in Downhill Racing & weddings. I'm hoping to take photography for A Levels then carry it onto University. I want to move to Whistler someday as it is epic there and the riders are even more epicer (new word for y'all there) Here is a shot that I've recently edited in Photoshop.
I like these kinds of shots because you can follow the riders line!
Anyway thanks for reading and check out my albums and leave me some feedback to work on - Diwas Limbu
It would help if you can get yourself to some downhill events like Aston hill this weekend, or PORC on the 25th Sept as you get so many riders coming past you can take shot after shot. Don't worry if you only get 1 picture out of a 1000 that you are really happy with, that is normal. (Just be thankful these days it doesn't cost anything as you don't have to develop film.)
Your photoshop work in the last shot is also great, and the picture has really good flow. Well done!
