The Step-up.

It’s crazy how people are willing to travel hundreds of miles to ride one single jump. It just so happens that this step-up is exceptional. And it would be, as the locals are Blake and Ray Samson, Steve Geall and Chopper.

The EZO media capture team arrived at an empty car-park, as we were the first to turn up we pulled out the Raleigh Strawberry. Our latest prop; a tiny girls bike complete with fruit punnet/dolls seat, stabilizers, plastic cranks and adorned with EZO, Rockstar, Muc Off and 24Seven stickers. Some kerb lip-tricks, slow pan dolly action and loads of ghosties later, Daryl Brown, DPM and Ray & Blake turned up. They set upon the Strawberry like a pack of werewolves. It lasted about ten minutes before total destruction ensued.

The Welsh conglomerate were not to far away. Adam Williams, Danny Pace, Ashley Staires and Die the dog all arrived about the same time as Huckmonkey’s Ryan Nangle – we were ready.

The location had changed drastically since the last time we filmed here. It was a slippery mess of soggy leaves and clumpy sand, which Blake & Ray assured us was the perfect conditions for the step-up.

Once the guys had scraped the leaves away from the run-up, rebuilt the landing it was go time. Taliban on the ridge – time to man up or Kemp out.

The big stunts soon started to flow and even more riders joined the session, with Craig Potter and crew making the epic journey by train. I think they’ll agree it was worth it.

Corby

The EZO crew were inked in for the ‘Big Wheel Jam’ at Corby. Not so much a jam as it turned out. More of a meeting of minds with a shared love for foam-pits, resi-ramps and low roofs.

The usual suspects were all here, and some unusual ones too – Daryl Brown, Adam Williams, DPM and Danny Pace were joined by Chris Smith, Sam Pilgrim, Oscar Golding and Craig Potter and the boys. We transferred the media gear into Adrenaline alley and set up for a day in an ant’s nest. I say ant’s nest because there were about 700 wheels per square inch. The place was rammed – it was pure danger in a box.

Once the boys were fuelled up on Rockstar they got to work!

The highlights included Daryl Brown‘s tuck-no-hand to arm–smash on the roof girder. Wrecking himself onto the take-off of the next box. In true hard-as-nails Daryl style he carried on riding and mashing up the park. Danny Pace gave us a preview of his new ultra trick for 2010. As did Adam Williams (who has just signed to NS bikes for 2010).

DPM showed us all how quickly he can dial those new tricks. We applied some slight mental pressure and after 3 hours in the foam pit he grabbed us and asked us to point our lenses at the resi box. We knew what was coming and we waited with baited breath. Someone’s first flip to anything harder than a mass of foam is a scary thing. Not for DPM! High as hell, slow and controlled. The crowd went wild. A few more and he was landing smoother than a Muller yoghurt.

Sam Pilgrim and Chris Smith were busting death moves all over the shop. B’s to B’s back, flairs to 540 pivot or something mad like that, 360 suicide no handers etc etc. Chris and I had a brief conversation about taking your hands off and we decided we need to bring back suicide no hander’. Tuck-no-hands are played out yo!

Corby turned into a bad-ass session. It’s an awesome place for winter training. The dirt season next year is going to bang like a barn door in a hurricane. All the young guns have really stepped up their game Oscar Golding, Ashley Staires, Craig Potter and Toby Ware all looking strong and pushing themselves.

Big thanks to Simon for being on-hand for us all day at Corby and letting us use his shots. He would just like to mention that prints are available here:

So check out our edit and let us know what you think.

Peace out.
