After a quick stop at Pembree for pedals and a beard touch up, we headed to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park to see if mountain bikes without engines were as bad as I remember.
Watch as I ride a lap unassisted on the Vitus Sommet and push myself to the physical limit for your viewing pleasure.
It’s odd that there’s so many ebike haters on here , can’t they use the filter ! They either like being angry , not reel haters and just jump on the hate bandwagon to egoboost themselves or just stupid !
He's becoming a parody of himself. His You Tube channel just seems desperate.
I'm a big fan and have been cheering him on since Chainspotting. Its a shame.
@Manix: Well that Y Food will just dribble off the edge I reckon. I couldn't quite tell if it was a parody advert or not. I guess they're paying him real money and he's signed a contract that dictates he can't say how disgusting it is....
I tried to like this but after I realised I'd wasted about 10 minutes and he hadn't even ridden anything I gave up.
The study is once u go ebike you never go bike. Have fun on your dinosaur bike. Faster then you before ebike and faster than you with ebike. Same outcome, just have a little assistance up
Can't wait for Wall E riders of the future. Pro riders are fast on e bikes because they go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I think pro riders need to be more transparent about their push for marketing e bikes. I know they don't really want to be role models, but there are a lot of sheeps in the world.
At 61 I bought an Ebike. I had been used to being at front of my group for a long long time, and then hit 60 and that was it... my power was gone, I would hold up the group, I stopped riding with my friend and decided to just go by myself. My friends would say don't worry about it, we'll just wait for you and in reality I was just riding alone but making them stop more then they wanted too. Don't be so quick to judge people on Ebikes without riding one for full loops. Mine is 50lbs and 2-3 hours of tossing that around is more draining then you think. I get just as beat as downhilling for a day, maybe not in your legs so much, but everywhere else for sure. So wait until you have 25 years under your belt and 20 of them also DH riding too. Lets see if you are still doing all the drops, hitting all the jumps and rolling the steepest rollers. If so, well go get yourself an Ebike, you earned it. And like Rob Warner, its nice to be able to hang with the youth when you still know how to shed like the youth. I call my BIKE the fountain of youth, and I really don't care what anyone says to me about mine. I kindly tell them to F off if they say negative crap about it.
This trend of calling ebikes "ebikes" and calling regular bikes "non ebikes" needs to stop. A bike is a BIKE, and an ebike is an ebike. Bikes came first! After spaceships were invented we didn't start calling large boats "non spaceships". After the motorcycle was invented and people called it the ironhorse we didn't start calling horses "non ironhorses". After the hotdog was invented we didn't start calling man's best friend the "non hotdog". Call it a bike!
So would you rather have us call non e bikes snail bikes or slow bikes? At least it's not rude. But face it, you guys are missing out by being stubborn retro grouches.
@DoubleCrownAddict: why do we all find you on every e-bike related story being a complete and total a*shole to everyone just because some people choose to not like your esteemed ebikes? For f*cks sake man, be decent to other humans. Is that so damn hard to do? People like different things and appreciate different parts of the sport. Just because someone else doesn't want the same thing out of their recreational time, doesn't give you the right to be a complete cock about it. Don't you have better things to do with your time?
@goldencycle: Dude you just hurled two personal insults at me. along with unnecessary profanity, and I've insulted nobody. Don't you have better things to do with your time?
All I'm doing is defending e bikes and pointing out their advantages over old-timey, retro-grouch, non e bikes.
@DoubleCrownAddict: you’re defending ebikes and talking about their advantages here, but in another article you talked about how your bike weighs 60 pounds, then whined about how you can’t corner on it so trail builders should rebuild their trails to suit your lower skill level with easy flow features. You’re just one big running joke.
@TypicalCanadian: Wrong again, I was saying make steep knarly inside lines instead of idiotic tight switchbacks that you have to basically stop for. Every post you try to attack me with the same type of stupid, desperate, disingenuous lies. Canadians typically aren't idiots but you are the exception.
That's what happens when you get free shit and also are more concerned with "content" than bikes and actual riding. Sorry Rob, the race commentary is good, but I gotta unsub from the YT channel, it's hot garbage most of the time.
And then someone will tell me, that riding ebike requires the same level of fitness. Because of course you have more power, but you ride faster and further ... Which is true for 1% or riders, but for most it is just a utility which lets you ride the same amount as before, just being less fit.
@lkubica: So you did a clinical study to come up with those numbers? Because you wouldn't have just pulled them out of your ass in order to virtue signal your dislike of Ebikes, right?
@Chuckolicious: There are thing ins life which do not require a clinical study. You just observe and see the reality. Humanity is like a milion years old and science is like few thousands years, but only for the last 200 it really influences peoples life. If scientific studies were required to judge the reality, we would not be there anymore. The very fact of our existance proves that the so called "common sense" is more ofter right than not ...
@lkubica: E bikes take more upper body fitness if you have a couple batteries and are going to ride them all day. It becomes more of a downhill-ride workout rather than mostly a leg burning workout.. which is why it's more fun for me. Plus it feels great flying up the climbs instead of suffering at a snail's pace.
E bikes are just way more inspiring to ride, and the haters will continue to be miserable about them and make snarky comments about them that prove they are in a state of miserable denial as long as they remain in denial about this fact.
@lkubica: you are talking utter crap , have you ever gone on a ride on an ebike with non ebikes ? You just want to get on with it and ride but you feel held back ! Absolutely nothing against non ebikes and will always ride mine but love the kenevo !
@Matt115lamb: that’s because they are two different sports. Ever gone on a dirtbike ride with ebikers? You just want to get on with it and ride but you feel held back!
@CircusMaximus: You know they’re not that different but if you want/need to push it for likes then carry on ! Emtb haters should try to chill abit and go with it , they’re here to stay ! What can you do on a bike that you couldn’t on an emtb ?
@Matt115lamb: What can I do on a bike that I can't on an ebike? I'd wager a week long bike packing trip in the backcountry is one thing that an ebike isn't very good for.
But everyone else has been saying e-bikes don't make you weak, they actually make you stronger... I'm so confused. Do I need a gas motor? Will a sail on my bike make me better at stealing KOMs? Maybe just need to go back to basics and make a horse-drawn bikey, for 1 horsepower of berm slapping madness! That'll make me way stronger, or least my stomach stronger around horse shit like this video drivel.
@Manix: Agreed. Rob makes great videos. For sure, not everyone seems to have liked this video but it is insane how over the top some of the comments are.
@mccarthyp: @mccarthyp: Discovered his channel last week and watched all the videos in one go. I laughed really hard at various parts of his videos. This last video was probably the least funny, especially if you miss the context of his earlier shenanigans. Tastes differ though, so I understand a lot of people aren't into that kind of humor.
So to sum it up, the majority of PB commenters i.e. "the other side of the pond":
1) just hate ebikes. period. 2) don't get british humour of taking the piss out of one self.
I agree with those saying the video was sh1te but getting your knickers in a twist about Warner moaning about pedalling just goes to show you really don't get it.
He was never known gor being fit, was he? He was a Pro DH rider two decades ago. At that time no DH Pro could have challenged one of the endurance guys. That has changed. Modern athletes can ride E-Bikes, Tricycles, or whatever - they stay fit because they know HOW to ride it., to stay fit. Rob still is a good example for what happens, when you ride E-Bikes just for fun and not to excercise.
I've zero beef with eBikes, in fact, I really do think they have their place.
What's really getting my goat though is the incessant hyping of the darn things by almost every pro-cum-influencer.
I get people have bills to pay and I get that content is king but, seriously, going from zero to all out in terms of how amazingly awesome they are just reeks of bovine facies.
I personally don’t have an issue with ebikes. Most people I’ve come across on the trail seem to be cool and friendly people to ride with. I just don’t like their fan club of lazy kids who have a superiority complex over them and only “ride” to appease their social media followers.
You do realise you can be fit and ride an E-Bike right? You can actually do other sports as well as ride bikes. In fact you can actually ride a none powered bike and an E-bike, you do not just have to limit yourself to one way of keeping fit.
@short-but-sweet: That is fair enough, everyone has a choice to do what they like, so point taken, they are not for you.
I still think people just hate on them at Pink Bike for no real reason as evidence by my post being down voted. A lot of people hate on Roadies here as well. Pink Bike can be pretty toxic at times. All I know is I enjoy riding all sorts of bikes and I do not malign people for doing what they want.
PinkBike , sharing this garbage you are sadly contributing to ruin our passion, sport and nature.
A CAR WITHOUT A MOTOR IS NOT A CAR A BICYCLE WITH A MOTOR IS NOT A BICYCLE
...stop this nonsense , is always MONEY the correct answer to everything???????????
if someone has health problems and is old, you are excused to use a motor.........otherwise move your ass and push those f@ing pedals...!!!!!!!!!!! All this morons crowding the woods that are not able to use a proper bike, go back home and start again, eat less , train more, and push yourself to do something good to you!!
We've officially reached the black and white portion of the infomercial. Socially engineering negative associations to perfectly usable alternatives to the new widget being pushed.
Wow...A lot of hate for Warner in this thread. Have to admit, I couldn’t get through this video... Shame because I love the guy. Very funny, even at maximum silly. Would like to see serious content. He’s a brilliant guy. Great interviewer, story teller, ambassador, etc.
Hopefully Rob takes this criticism for what it is. It's a bunch of friends who love him but thought this particular video was a POS. We all know he can do better. I'm around his age and thought it was depressing.
took me a while to understand this ain't a joke, comedy or some kind of satirical stunt... That's RW 2021.
What an embarassment to our beautiful sport. If I ever turn into such whining pussy, please shoot me right away.
I had this kinda argument a lot of times with ebikers: bababababba we ebikers are standard bikers, and our e-bikes are the same than your [...]bikes.... put any stupide adjective like non motorized, acoustic, standard between the brackets asked them well, so, why did you buy that bulky shitty-looking rig, that weights 5 kilos more, that costed you 2 ou 3k more, that gonna behave like a panzer VI during the way down?
@slow-af-rider: think of all the stuff you hate without having tried it before... I don't know: eating nuts with their shell, fast fishing by pouring used motor oil in a lake, riding 2019 e-13 trs rims for anything gnarlier than a paved sidewalk...
well, what's wrong with disliking things without having tried it before ?
I tried e-mtb just once, briefly, you can consider I never tried it. but I still can claim that I HATE this principle: in 2021, taking a "relatively" green sport, put some wire, lithium, motors...(well a lot of polluting stuff in fact)... just to allow billies to run their home lap faster, or with less effort!
wake up! we ain't yet prone to kill all our polluting already-existing sports (motor sports, skiing in a resort,etc...) , at least it would be great to let them dwindle to their death, that will obvouisly come in fitures decades. but IMO these days, taking a green sport, and modifying it with a motor is simply insane, by principle...
not even a need to try: I do what I can do with my bike. else I can train more (ahaha, no way,) or stay at my level of fitness, enjoy what I can do, and remain pleased to see some people doing more, without the need to be motorised to do the same...
"the goal justifies the mean" is a dead end when we speak about leisure vs pollution in 2021 !
E bikes are great but you do miss some things when riding them ,and sometimes a pain to get them across some trails when trees and gates and some other shit cut the trails ,but a more or less fit person really doesn’t need them (ok maybe take 1 or 2 hours to do the same ride ),but an EBIKE really doesn’t makes you stronger cause it doesn’t push your body like a normal one ,only the heart ,and most of them doesn’t last more then 100 km with a 1800 meters climbing with an average of 18/9 km/h,on a more or less fitter person ,and they make the ride pass by you ,but it is normal on this new society, more more more ,want want want ,but yes they are a blast to ride not using them as an EBIKE but more like a bike
And? Riding downhill (decently at least) requires a lot of physical fitness. Any CAT 1 or pro downhiller is doing a lot of cross country and/or road riding with most also doing strength training.
The bottom line is that as humans, we tend to be a bit lazy. Put someone on an assist bike and they will rely on the assist: it is just to easy to kick in a little more power when you are struggling on a climb. When it is not there, you have no choice.
Would you rather do 1 lap or 3-4?
I tried to like this but after I realised I'd wasted about 10 minutes and he hadn't even ridden anything I gave up.
All I'm doing is defending e bikes and pointing out their advantages over old-timey, retro-grouch, non e bikes.
"Rob Warner shouts at ducks..." is perilously close to "Old man shouts at cloud".
E bikes are just way more inspiring to ride, and the haters will continue to be miserable about them and make snarky comments about them that prove they are in a state of miserable denial as long as they remain in denial about this fact.
Emtb haters should try to chill abit and go with it , they’re here to stay !
What can you do on a bike that you couldn’t on an emtb ?
Arrrgh ........ I’d do it in 3 days
Good one! Why is that gold not a bumper sticker?
Works for me. I can now get it up real easy, every time I want to ride. Mind you, my parts are worn out.
1) just hate ebikes. period.
2) don't get british humour of taking the piss out of one self.
I agree with those saying the video was sh1te but getting your knickers in a twist about Warner moaning about pedalling just goes to show you really don't get it.
I laughed so hard, I shat my trousers.
I’m just not interested in emtbs, they seem an expensive distraction & an unnecessary complication of the sport
I still think people just hate on them at Pink Bike for no real reason as evidence by my post being down voted. A lot of people hate on Roadies here as well. Pink Bike can be pretty toxic at times. All I know is I enjoy riding all sorts of bikes and I do not malign people for doing what they want.

THIS IS NOT BICYCLING
Erm. It's only pain if you don't look after yourself; if you ear veg, keep fit and active it's second nature.
I found I had to skip 10mins into the vid to actually get to any content. Then skip again...
bababababba we ebikers are standard bikers, and our e-bikes are the same than your [...]bikes.... put any stupide adjective like non motorized, acoustic, standard between the brackets
asked them
well, so, why did you buy that bulky shitty-looking rig, that weights 5 kilos more, that costed you 2 ou 3k more, that gonna behave like a panzer VI during the way down?

but the best assistance we can provide him is to teach him how to stop doing such stupid things...not motorizing him...
Aside -- does anyone know what van Rob has in that video?
