Photo Epic: Whip-Off - Crankworx Whistler 2019

Any whip off is a crowd pleaser and the Crankworx Whistler whip off is no exception. The crowds were out in force this year to experience as much whipping and flipping as the riders could throw at them. There is a clear divide developing between the new school and old school. Riders like Thomas Vamnderham were effortlessly carving off the lip, whereas the likes of Kaos Seagrave and Dylan Stark were getting freakishly sideways and sending 360s.

With each person's whip being unique, it can be difficult to determine a winner, however official judging was based on style, amplitude and landing. Kade Edwards was ticking every box with his signature style and Vinny Armstrong was sending it huge as well as getting far more sideways than the competition, which earned them the top spots.

Ever since they sent up cops to patrol for alcohol the crowd has been pathetic. No one stands, no one cheers, they might as well be watching golf. When riders send their lives it's cool to see some appreciation...

the golden days of crankworx are past us... drinking beers right next to the action without having to worry about a ticket or getting kicked out. sh*t you could even spark up and nobody cared

It's Whistler and North America, the mentality is not the same about alcohol. The same thing in Vancouver, you can't have a beer on the beach otherwise $230 fine, that is why some ppl prefer to do drugs (i don't) and it's cheaper than paying $12 after tax for a 6 pack. The 2016 Crankworks was so amazing but too extreme, for the athmosphere just go to Europe. In some events\races in France they even give you wine and beer with your lunch because it's a part of the culture.

So the only way to appreciate them is with the assistance of alcohol?
