I'm a Mountain Biker from Toronto, a walking/riding Cliché. I could start this story by listing the disadvantages of living and riding in Ontario, but it's been done. Instead, I'm going to complain about something that gets less press but affects all of us riders living in cities... Noise. Specifically, City Noise. With my main mode of transportation being a Subway, the city limitations often dictate where I ride my Mountain Bike. If it weren't for rental cars, I would never leave the city. The trails in Toronto are good, quite good actually. But, the omnipresent droning of traffic noise can get to me at times. After a long winter, it was finally time to escape.
Metcalfe Rock made for a great day trip. I spent most of the day shooting and riding at the Rock. There is plenty of singletrack in the surrounding Kolapore Uplands to make this a worthy destination. If you're an Ontarian like myself, get out for a ride at the rock!
Now I'm back home and the traffic noise is constant once more. Thanks to Metcalfe Rock, I have a greater appreciation for peaceful days like these.
