by unic-mtb

After two years of research and development we are excited to announce the launch of a new custom wear brand: Únic. Together with Cédric Gracia, we are proud to have created high-tech clothing as well as an easy online customisation tool. Únic was inspired by mountain biking lovers in Andorra and gets its name from the Catalan language, meaning unique

Únic offers high-tech and top-quality mountain bike wear that is fully customisable. On the website you can choose from many designs and personalise them. Apart from selecting your very own unique colour combo, we go one step further by giving you the choice of adding your name, country flag and logos. Creating bespoke clothing takes only a few minutes as we provide an easy and intuitive personalisation tool.

Have you ever found a jersey that you fancied, but wished it was in a different colour? Do you struggle to find matching clothing which complements your bike? We give you that freedom of choice. We want you to be ÚNIC.

Únic produces outstanding and one of a kind clothing designed by you, teams or families as we offer sizing and fit for men, women and kids (coming soon).

Unlike other brands offering custom clothing, Únic does not have a minimum quantity order. You can buy just one item of clothing and we will produce it from scratch according to your preferences. We design and manufacture our products in Europe for each individual order.

Únic produces shorts and trousers, long and short sleeve jerseys, as well as second skin base layers. All clothing is made from high quality fabrics that are breathable, lightweight and high-wicking, yet durable and resistant. Customisation does not end with the design - we also give you the choice of three jersey fabrics: UniPro, mesh and UniCotton.

Shorts and trousers have tapered pockets with one hand adjustable YKK zips and an additional internal water repellent and impact protective pocket for the mobile phone. Jerseys have a small pocket for your lift pass or credit card plus a microfibre cloth for cleaning your goggles.

Cédric Gracia, Únic’s co-founder, was involved in every step of research and development. Thanks to his experience and knowledge, as well as numerous months of testing under various conditions, Únic offers technical yet extremely comfortable MTB wear.

bigquotesDuring my career I used and tested plenty of various clothing, but I have never found anything that would be close to perfection. Únic is my answer to the market’s needs. Custom clothing is finally quick and easy to design without compromising on its quality. Both jerseys and bottoms are the most comfortable I have ever tried and provides high-tech solutions. I spend 18 months to find the perfect fit and I am confident to say that Únic products are a game changer.Cédric Gracia, Únic ambassador and co-founder

Únic is not only a brand but a philosophy of being true to yourself while doing what you love. Craftsmanship and innovation are our focus points. We do not compromise on quality as all custom details are applied straight into the fabric. In this way we make sure that the graphics cannot wash out or fade away, while the fabric remains breathable.

Manufacturing time of each order is 14 business days. Ready orders are uniquely packed and shipped to any country in the world with FedEx Express, which offers a quick, reliable and traceable service. Shipping is free on all orders over 100 euros. offers purchasing in EUR. For your convenience, the website is available in English, Catalan, Spanish and French.

a man who has been castrated, especially (in the past) one employed to guard the women's living areas at an oriental court.
an ineffectual person.

that is exactly what popped into my head, too.

@savagelake: I think you meant to post this one:

So if they ever got a stiffy, would it be considered a eu-nuch-horn?
  • 9 1
So, a Unic walks into a strip club to work the Pole, but cant get a job because they were looking for more of an Assegai..
  • 1 0
@NoahColorado: Yep. Never trust a eunuch. Looking at the prices listed here I don't trust Unic either.
  • 1 0
@Klainmeister: yes! shame on me for not thinking of history of world first.
  • 1 0
Exactly what I thought before I even opened the press release.
  • 5 0
Yep. This will be the apparel brand of choice for those riding a pole

sevenmx compression top/tank combo is the game changer.

 “Employed to guard the women”

So it’s a virtue signalling male feminist? Lol.
  • 3 0
Wondering if the French understand how terrible of a name brand that is.
  • 32 0
Do the shorts have any room for, you know.....?
  • 17 1
 A water bottle?
  • 1 0
 ... sha .... ??
  • 3 0
Nop. You have to carry those apart. The shorts come with a separate ball pouch, though.

This is a Chevy Nova moment.

Bad name. Bad, bad, bad name. As someone who worked in marketing for the better part of 25 years, that ranks right up there with the worst of company names I've come across. I know it's based on a specific language, but when developing a name you need to realize it will be interpreted (or misinterpreted) differently in countries around the world. I don't mean to denigrate the Spanish language, but outside of that country this name can far too easily be mocked...for obvious reasons as indicated by my colleague below.
  • 1 1
The name is creating a buzz though (at least here on PB). That buzz is not about the products, but it's something. I could see certain people initially buying it for the name and then, assuming that they produce good products, see sales increasing. Most brands don't have that "branding" or attention from the start, so this could be good for a kickstart.
  • 2 1
 Not spanish sir, Catalan...
  • 11 0
the company name focus group was actually a keg party
  • 11 1
I hope it’s pronounced unique not unic
  • 15 1
Is there anything more unique in today's world than a eunuch?
  • 7 1
Was discussing this name with people the other day. Really puts a new spin on this PR:

"Únic is not only a brand but a philosophy of being true to yourself..."
"Don’t be a copy, be Únic!"

Um, no thanks.

Does anyone—besides Santa Cruz fanboys and their Troy Lee Designs branded everything else—like person-branded stuff?

I feel bad enough being a moving billboard for brands.
  • 2 1
 Appeal to people's vanity = $$$$$$$
  • 6 0
Well...they save money on material if you don't need room in the shorts for certain things..
  • 3 0
I don't understand where have you all found out that Catalan Únic, or English Unique comes from eunuch? Really. I haven't found any etymology source which would linked Unique to Eunuch. They have totally different meanings and origin.
  • 1 0
Say it out sounds the same as eunuch and that is where the comparison/similarity is from. Nothing to do with the actual meaning, just the sound.
  • 1 0
Unic pronounced as it's spelled in English is pronounced the same eunuch. Think Nic as in Nickel with an English U infront of it. Also a lot of people probably don't even know how to properly spell eunuch. So the name is often going to cause a chuckle to an English speaking rider who doesn't speak Spanish.
  • 2 0
I like the idea although it's a shame they didn't go a bit further - as I see you can just pick colours rather than have something properly tailored. It would be nice to choose the length of the short, etc, for all us gangly types of there...
  • 1 0
Check out NWT3K! They’ve got 3 short lengths you can customize
  • 1 0
@Kc9123:Thanks for the plug, Kye! Shoot if you have any questions about our custom bike shorts. Awesome to see other players like Unic popping up in the market place. #custom
  • 1 0
 @NWT3K: No customizable long pants?
  • 1 0
 @Startgas: Not yet!
  • 1 0
I personally think they look pretty nice, and are fair pricing for a made to order piece. It did make me immediately think of when my DJ bike tried to turn me into eunuck though. And I have two other friends who unfortunately did the same, but the bike won....

Looks nice kit but far too expensive. I'm aware the business end of MTB sees us MTBers as cash cows and that we appear to be willing to spend massive amounts of money for things, but this just seems massively pricey for the kit. It probably is very comfy and works very well, but there are many other manufacturers offering similar stuff for less money. There will be plenty people paying that cash, so no doubt it will be a great success, but it does highlight the fact that we as a group appear to be easily parted with our money.
  • 5 1
Can't tell if Unique or Eunuch
  • 4 0
 Same. Same.
  • 3 0
@vikb: noticing a clear trend in all the comments haha
  • 3 0
I find it hard to find chonies that match my KMC colored chain, glade there is finally a brand of apparel that cares.
  • 1 0
I was looking for shorts that matched my gray short n' curlies!

  • 6 3
I get it that English isn’t the ONLY language on earth, but geez. It’s gonna be called “eunuch” and that’s that.
  • 6 4
Cedric and Brian lopes should start a company and call it We are twats. And see if anybody feels like giving them any money.
  • 3 1
Thank goodness they didn’t go with the second choice of the focus group - ‘Balless’
  • 2 0
Not sure what the regulations are in other countries but in Australia riding on BMX track requires long pants.....
  • 1 0
wow seriously?!? there's actually a law for that?
  • 1 0
@ecologist: Only for official practice and race nights, I've since been informed that shorts can be worn with knee+shin guards.
  • 2 0
So, just when is flashy expensive kit gonna die forever?? Wake me up when it does.
  • 3 0
I ain't got the balls to be caught wearing those pants...

Don't be a copy, be unic. That is so cringe! Who are these marketing people?
  • 2 1
 Pronounced like "Unique" or "Eunuch"?
  • 1 0
Instead of Uniqally spelling Uniq we accidentally Uniqally spelled Uniq.
