Here is the first official teaser about Tracey Hannah. The 14months leading up to her bronze medal in Pietermaritzburg were definitely not the easiest for her. 1 broken femur, 3 broken collarbones, bruised ribs and a broken toe seriously messed with Tracey's mind and physical condition coming into the race of the year.

Tracey Hannah in the lime light for this 1st extract of A Racer s Dream . Tune in on the 18th of December for the whole movie

The documentary "A Racer's Dream" was produced by JB Bazzarini for the Hutchinson UR team to give you an inside sight of what it really takes to be an athlete seeking the top spot at the World Championships in Pietermaritzburg. Through injuries, training, World Cup racing, podiums, disappointments, stress, hope and joy, the whole team had plenty on their hands leading up to South Africa.

The movie will be available for free on the internet from the 18th of December onwards and will also be broadcast on TV sports channels. We'll keep in touch with broadcasting dates and what channels will be showing it.

The objective of this movie was to present a more human face of downhill racing and go in deep with the riders to find out what makes them want this rainbow jersey so bad. The aim is also to try to make the sport more appealing to people who don't ride bikes and try to get them interested and as pumped as we all are when we watch the live broadcasts on RedbullTV with Rob Warner yelling in our ears! So get the old folks in, call round some footballer friends and get them to sit down in front of the computer to show them what this sport is really made of!

Nothing but BIG respect for Tracey!!
Broke mij tibia and fibula a good year ago and now running for the first time (pain & inflamation free) last week.
So i can relate to a bit of the struggle she must have had.
Like i said, Respect!

4 pieces calcaneus AND stage 2 ankle sprain, so I had to wait for a month before they could cut me up, or it would've been a mess with that sprain. "Walking" after 9 weeks, light home trainer sessions after 12 and proper Dh riding after 18... Pretty quick recovery imo

If you don't crash your not trying hard enough! A broken femur must really suck, I'm currently nursing a broken collarbone and that sucks

@two2tits Im just about back from my collarbone (2nd time I've done it so looks super messed up)
keep persisting and you'll get there!!

i shattered my left calcaneus in 3 pieces 2 years ago, took 4 months to be able to walk again, i can't imagine a broken femur.. big respect to everyone triumphing from injuries.
  • 1 0
I´ve just got my calcaneus broken the same way you did so 4 months it´ll be how much to ride a bike then?
  • 1 0
depends on your rehab happened to me before winter so id say it take maybe 6 months to be comfortable.

Calcaneus in 4 pieces AND a stage 2 sprained ankle, so I had to wait for a month until they could cut me open and put my calcaneus back together (otherwise it would've been a mess with the sprain).
First walk after 9 weeks, first home trainer sesh after 12 and proper DH riding after 18... Pretty quick recovery imo

Yisuus thats what my doctor said it´ll take, I thought it was too much time from my back it only took 3 months haha never thought the foot will take longer. I had also the fibula damaged so i also wait but only 1 week they put a lot of meds to drain the blood Thanks bros.

I snapped my femur and this is pretty spot on. Hated the walker. All of your leg muscle weakens and some is cut through. You pretty much have to teach yourself how to walk again. It is an injury that you triumph from.

Same here. Broken femur sucks, it takes all the energy out of you. This video brought back some bad memories. But luckily my femur healed nicely and besides huge scar its like i never had an accident at all.
  • 1 0
Yup bad memories for sure. It can put you in a dark place. But with proper rehab you can make a full recovery, eventually.

Yea it is, you really do have to learn how to walk an use your leg again, broke mine 9 months ago(motocross compound distal femur break) have a rod inside my femur from knee to hip, but after months of waiting for it to grow back together it still hasnt, going back under the knife next week. what i have learned through out what iv been through so far is to not give up and to keep on stepping forward even if its one step at a time.

Come on @redbullrick. Your a young dude, heal that baby up. I'm rooting for you. Maybe a little "under the knife" is all you need. I like to think of Arnold Schwarzenegger when I have a injury. He says every injury area heals up stronger than it was to begin with. I rather believe him with practical experience than any doctor with theoretical knowledge. You'll be shredding on two wheels in no time!

 Yea man thanks!

Respect for ANYONE who tries to make a living from an extreme sport a like DH. It's a tough road, she's lucky she has Mick in her corner. Someone who's been there and done it just like her. Epic respect to to all!

Killer rider, tough as nails, and a bombshell to boot. Triple threat for sure.

I shattered my right heel in a bmx race it took almost a full year before a could walk and now my ankle is fused. it took some time to get to the point of not being afraid to get on my dh bike. mad props to her for pushing thru and getting back on the bike

Broken bones and what you do afterwards, is what separetes us rider's from everyone else!!! 10 months in bed with my Femur, tibia & fibula Broken never stopped me from getting back in action and better than ever!... RESPECT TRACEY #1

And I'm sitting here complaining about two ripped ligaments in my right wrist. Guess I should be happy when it could have been worse.
But seriously, all type of injuries sucks right? Especially those who take you off your bike for a long time.
  • 2 0
I feel you man! Those things take forever to heal! And you feel it on the bike - every little bump.
  • 3 0
recovering from a broken femur, jaw and both wrists. luckily my bike was fine...I spent 4 days in a hospital. couldn't wait to get riding again.
  • 1 0
I fractured my pelvis a few years ago. Trying to tell a racer that you must stay still and go slow is like telling someone not to breath. I'm no world cup racer but I believe that falls like that make you smarter on the trail, and then ultimately faster on course.
  • 3 0
wow that is so real life, never get to see behind the seen / on the road to recovery etc. get on and beat the poms ashes time.

I broke the ball joint in my shoulder and my shin coming up short on a 30ft road gap. It took just over 6 months before I could ride properly.
@redbullrick hope all goes well under the knife dude and hopefully you will be shredding the trails again soon

Two words.... Re & Spect! I think I'd sit in bed for 3 years after all those injuries. Might as well consider me a veggie human if I was in her shoes.
  • 2 0
I wish you good health and a lot of perseverance. We all know how to return to the sport after the fall 3
  • 5 2
 She broke THREE collarbones?!
Damn, I only have two.
  • 5 0
She broke the first one in 3 spots at Val d'Isère. Didn't have any surgery. Then broke the other in Australia in March, got operated on. Then broke the first one again in Les 2 Alpes and got surgery. She now has two metal collarbones Smile

Injuries like that are scary... need good head to recover well.
  • 4 0
Good head is appropriate at anytime.... But I know what you mean.
  • 3 0
What a badass. Heart of a champion for sure.
  • 1 0
 Beautiful story.

Also, we human beings only have 2 collarbones as standard equipment: "1 broken femur, 3 broken collarbones, bruised ribs and a broken toe"
  • 2 1
... But you can break 1 collarbone 3 different times, or rebreak 1 and break the other one twice...
  • 2 0
A reality check for us all... Be safe out there.

The pain that DH racers accept as part of the deal is phenomenal. You gotta respect that.
