It's hardly a "real" DH track and neither is PMB but it's the way the sport is going unfortunately to bring in a newer less mountain bike savvy audience, make them less technical but faster with bigger jumps.
I think PMB ain't WC worthy so Mate1998 calm the hell down! All I'm saying is: this track is not a great choice for a Wc bit would be nice as a bikepark track. That's all. Val Di Sole, Andorra etc.. those are the kinds of WC tracks the Sport needs. Where people can take a line of choice and are not forced to run all the same. I don't even know why you came up with PMB? Man you need to take a few chill pills
Thredbo would be much more wc worthy its actually a great track down here but as far as I know there are specific guides that need to be meet for hospitals and local aids all of which are not close enough to the track or some BS. The tracks more wc worthy and its pretty long.
Come on thredbo host a WC
Hoshi: I couldn't bloody agree more. Looks like a bloody boring race to watch to me. Must say the first thing that sprung to my mind when watching the vid was "hmmmmmmmm looks like Pietermaritzburg MkII" I don't know what the hell is up with the course choosers at the UCI. Surely they are well aware by now that this kinda track sucks for racing. The back lash against PMBshlda been enough to tell them that for gods sake.......
I love how everyone can tell how a track rides from their computer chairs. Anyone still have the same thoughts after seeing and hearing all the riders thoughts on the track?
Its not as flat as the video makes it look, however I am not a fan of how much straight/less than wc quality riding there is, however what the hill was and what they had to work with they did a amazing job. Cairns is hot and crazy humid so this will really test the riders fitness. The only question now is with all the heavy forest how will they stream the track for raceday.....
people need to OPEN THEIR EYES. gopro basically owns the industry, but its not the only good camera out there! having about as much experience with a gopro as any skier/mountain biker, i can say that the sound quality of them is utter trash, and even for the amazing video quality they can capture, they are still crazy expensive. if i was looking to get an onboard camera i would definitely at least look into the sony. battery life sucks eggs on gopros and if sonys turn out to be a lot cheaper (i don't know the pricing off the top of my head) then i might be sold.
i just get annoyed when people write off every head cam/onboard video that isn't filmed with a gopro. 1080p is 1080p no matter where it came from. as consumers shouldnt we be happy for competition?
P.S. personally i don't like the shape of gopros, when skiing really fast with them i can feel the wind resistance because its like a miniature sail. iv'e always liked the long tube shape, more aerodynamic.
I know that some will definalety hate this but there is way to much non-tech stuff, nearly half is straight single and fireroad. this looks super fun to ride for a most of us but not much there to test world cup level. sorry but this just looks like old school world cup.
shit right there wit yeah, w.c, dunno, does look kinda cool, dunno what coverage there gonna pull off on this one looks pretty socked in the trees, camera placement could be critical haha, just doesn't fit w.c criteria , it will be interesting!!!!!!!!!! looks like mick is getting a head start on the field- learnin that track,
They could def add a few more features to some of the fast straight sections, some parts of it look like alot of fun but i agree that prob nobody at WC level would find this track very challenging. Good effort tho, maybe they will modify a few parts of the track for future seasons and then australia is onto winner. Should be a good watch. Get ready for Rob Warner screaming "look how fast he's going" prob every 5 mins for this track. Predictions for winner????
I remember when everybody was writing similar comments about La Bresse when the first headcam came out of that course, but it turned out to be one of the sickest tracks on the circuit (wish it was back in the calendar).
This is the only footage I've seen of this track, but I'm willing to bet Mick (and the camera) makes it look waaaay smoother and easier than it really is. Some of those "straight forward' looking straighter sections I'm sure are full of roots, rocks, off camber and nasty.
Predictions on a winner? Prob some fool on a big wheel considering this track doesn't appear to have any corners for 90% of its length. F****ing Lame if you ask me.....
I did 70 once on a freaking steep, long fireroad, was really hard to get up such speed and he is talking of 80, 90? I'm not saying no, but... sceptical... Impressive none the less - Even if it's 50, it looks insane!
Theres a 70ft set of 12 moto whoops in there that mick jumps most of, i bet you didnt even see them in the video. Imagine what else you cant see in this helmet cam, plus everything will get blown out. Cant wait.
Omg, track looks sick, not the best for live feed, but I guess everyone will be watching thisnhewd cam over and over now.
Somemseriously fast sections there.
Sweet berms at the top section and fast, gnarly stuff further down... This tack is awesome, i can't wait to see all the Pro's smashing this track! (especially Sam Hill)
like to have seen some more creativity in track design especially at the top. a lot of good elevation seemed wasted with repetitive switchbacks and straight ish smooth ish sections
For the whingers out there saying PMB and Cairns are not "proper DH tracks", give it a rest. The powers that be decided to add these tracks on the UCI DH Calendar, so it's officially a DH track. If you don't agree file a resolution or complaint to the UCI.
Is it just me or the track is so tight that I always got the impression that a wild animal would jump out of nowhere in front of Mick. The top section looks pretty steep and I love the cork-screw (I was not expecting that). I'd love to ride that.
Hmmm whoever said it was not technical did you not see that bungalow sized boulder he dropped off into that minefield that looked like a dry riverbed???? I think this course looks really good fun fast technical few steep turns and drops all through a fricking jungle!! Kicks SA ass!!
it has about 1% tech to 99% bombing a fire road. Yeah that top section does look pretty cool. If they made the whole track like that, then it might even be wc worthy.....
I think the dirt vids will be super sweet on this course. I hope the international riders don't winge too much. I was thinking there would be some more rock gardens??
I was lucky enough to ride the track a few weeks ago.. Mick and Tracey where the getting in a few runs and yes it is going to be epic! Bring wc round 2!
It looks like the ultimate bmx track on steroids to me. Nothing like how I imagine DH. You know...corners that dont all have berms. a lack of big smooth jumps. This track looks like it was designed specifically for 29ers or something. Lame.....
WOaw absolutely crazy track there ! not able to guess tu future winner, anyone could win but Sick Mick got serious chances. what's the average speed on this ??
Is this track designed specifically for big wheels? Perhaps one might finally win a race and put the final nail in the coffin for bikes that actually go round corners....
Track looks good, but my word the quality of the Sony Action Cam was terrible, or was it actually filmed with an iPhone? They've got a long way to go to catch up with a certain boxy camera. Even the bright sunny finish was poor quality
Looks fun to ride, but sure as hell looks like a rubbish WC track. Not wanting to jump on the "enduro specific" bandwagon, but this is tamer than the Trans Provance etc tracks the enduro guys race on. Also, where the hell are the cameras going to be set up on this?
I don't think you can tell how rough this track is from the helmet cam footage! I haven't seen any other footage, but it's my experience! We'll have to wait till the first day of practice to know if it's worthy
Don't care about the neg props - yes there's a certain amount of "flattening" a helmet cam does, but it's pretty evident, this is yet another boring track like PMB
Have you not seen the rock section? Carrying speed through there is gonna be tough. And just because there's a lot of "tame" stuff, doesn't mean it's easy: at the race, they'll be riding this at 80kph, and the track will be completely blown out. There's absolutely no room for error. Oh, and the switchbacks are going to be tricky: if you don't execute them perfectly, you're whole run is down the drain

Btw only problem with this trail is where will the spectators stand?
Short video of mick hitting some fast sections. Gonna be pretty damn fast through there.

Look forward to seeing it fo' real in the WC.
1. That drop into a rock garden near the beginning.
2. The sound of the wind when mick really opens it up.
This tack is awesome, i can't wait to see all the Pro's smashing this track! (especially Sam Hill)
I don't know of an enduro steed that can stay stable at such speeds
I think this course looks really good fun fast technical few steep turns and drops all through a fricking jungle!! Kicks SA ass!!
And that drop at 0:54 into that stones!
Whoooh!
I like it!
And another, much clearer video shot from trackside. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT3ZBttNBMU
