The race is on a super dusty track, but it's the most heavenly race of the year. We saw a great battle between Mick Hannah, Remy Thirion and some fast riders such as Wyn Masters, Fabien Cousinié and the fastest asian riders.
I hate smoothed out POV shots, gives you no gauge on how rough the track is and why they are going slow on what appears to be a smooth run, when in fact its cause they are fighting for grip along a load or ruts and braking bumps
Funny you should say that. One of Peaty's world cup pov runs this season was filmed without any stabilisation and the comments were one huge pile of complaints about sketchy image.
just personal preference i guess those contours seem to need the stabilisation to have a consistent image go pros keep their clarity better when being shaken around maybe also due to the height that the camera is mounted at?
Problem is, this stabilisation's gone too far. If you're ever seen someone upload helmet cam footage to YouTube, and they clicked on "Yes", when YouTube prompts something along the following lines: " We have detected that your video is shaky, do you wish to use the video stabilisation feature".
That makes videos on YouTube look truly godawful, and make me feel seasick. This video is very reminiscent of that.
I hate to be that guy, but the more other POV cam footage is uploaded, the more I'm glad I have a GoPro.
POV shots take a lot of the angle out of drops, downhill looks almost flat most of the time, and flat looks slightly uphill and uphill looks steep as hell, merely because of the way depth perception is altered with a camera Vs in person.
BUT DAMN DON'T SONY'S SUCK!!
@kdstones yeah, they have a chesty, it looks frikin ridiculous, it sticks SUPER far out, i wouldn't be surprised if people hit it with their seat all the time. it looks dumb and the Vid quality sucks. just get a go pro.
When you stabilize any POV footage it makes you look slow. I don't get why they do it, it looks horrible. What a line up for a race though! Quite the variety of shredders.
a wider angle helps see the periphery ripping by, giving a better indication of speed. That's lost if it's a bit narrower view angle, making it appear slower.
I think the stability has a lot to do with the Sony cam. It seems to be the only positive about them, for example both of us do chest cam runs at our local, my go pro is a lot clearer b ut you can't make anything out because of the shaking whereas the Sony is crappy quality but nice and smooth.

The main challenge to overcome with a GoPro mounted on the chest is to lessen or prevent lateral flapping, which is the cause of shaky footage.
Any other ideas would be welcome! This is perfect niche for a Kickstarter, some sort of easy stabilization for the GoPro chesty mount.
