PRESS RELEASE: Val di Sole BikelandThe eighth edition of the iconic Italian Downhill event on the snow, organized by the Val di Sole MTB World Cup OC, will see hundreds of athletes facing the challenging "Alpe Alta" slope at the Tonale Pass.
The snow of the Tonale Pass is waiting for La Winter DH athletes. The Alpe Alta slope will stage the eighth edition of the craziest downhill competition of the cycling winter season.
A matter of balance, technique, and gut. Saturday, February 15th, in Trentino (Northern Italy) gravity athletes will get a chance to experience a fantastic event: taking part in a snow cycling race under the technical supervision of Grandi Eventi Val di Sole, the same organizers of the Italian Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup stage.
Compared to the previous editions, the new Alpe Alta slope will guarantee a fast and technical trial. The race starts at 2,179 meters above sea level, while the finish line will be at the bottom of the slope (1,880 mt.) on the Tonale Pass, for 300 meters of elevation loss distributed along 1,8 Km.
Immediately after the start, riders will face a straight into a steep section, followed by the typical gates of the giant ski slalom, implemented with bumps and turns to characterize the track.
2020 Winter DH's formula is the Eliminator race: athletes will be split into several heats, and the winners of each will advance to the next round, both in the MTB and eMTB categories. The amateur cyclists could launch the challenge to pro' riders and guest stars. In contrast, the pro' riders of the MTB competition can collect points for the national ranking, as the event subscribed for the Italian Cycling Federation calendar.
Last year, Lorenzo Ballarini won the men's MTB competition on the Valena slope, preceding Francesco Locatelli and Marco Cassani. Lorenza Menapace won the women's MTB competition and Marco Dorigatti dominated the first edition of the e-Bike category.
