Claudio Calouri and Velosolutions have been busy to building public pumptracks around the world, swoopy asphalt creations full of rollers and berms that provide hours of enjoyment for beginners and experts alike. The two newest additions to their growing portfolio are in Balzars, Lichtenstein, and Arosa, Switzerland. The Balzars pumptrack just so happens to be situated at the base of a medieval castle - talk about a scenic backdrop.

Velsolutions Asphalt Pumptrack in Arosa

Arosa, Switzerland is now home to Europe's highest pumptrack, situated at 1775 meters (5823 feet) above sea level. There might not be a castle nearby, but riders can stare off at the towering mountains of the Swiss Alps when they're not taking laps on the freshly constructed bike playground.

A friend of mine told me there was a project to build one near my home , and they would have a 400k€ budget... but seriously it cant be that much...

I would say between 30 and 300k depending on the size

Three Chillies Design (TC Trail design) builds them...hit up your local government for funding

The track in Neunkirchen, Austria, was build for 150k€ And that created some controversies.

They quoted us (city of Redmond Oregon) around $300,000 for a park. We're in the works of getting our very own in the next few years!

We got one in fnq made by World Trail, while not as big and intricate as these still super fun to ride, when you get a turn in between all the little kids.

The three small pumptracks recently built by VeloSolutions in Alberta, Canada were budgeted for around $125k each, so assume $150k each, as that's the way things often go. velosolutions.com/en/pump-track/alberta-pump-tracks-wildwood-evansburg-niton-junction

@treekilla: Is that for the full-on asphalt version? Here in Bellingham, WA, we'll be getting a (dirt) pump track in one of our main municipal parks (which also happens to be close to Galbraith Mountain - and in between four neighborhoods with lots of families). That won't be a Velosolutions sort of thing, though, but a community effort driven by the WMBC. Lots of volunteer efforts will go into that - can't wait for that project to kick off in the spring.

Sweet! Pumptracks are great in all sorts of ways. Awesome to see Szymon Godziek and Dartmoor bikes. Great to see that Velosolutions business is rolling. This article has put a smile on my face, so much win Big Grin

They dont stop winning!! Could Velosolutions possibly belong to the Trump organization ??

Just kidding

Nuances in the design will definitely affect the cost. A skate park typically costs around US$30 to $40 per square foot to construct. I read that Velosolutions uses a special kind of asphalt so the cost will probably be higher than that.

Velosolutions needs to have a map of where all their pumptrack projects are and what their status is in terms of outsiders riding them. I imagine some are private and some have fees but a lot look like they are public spaces. I would detour a trip or vacation to check one out!

One in my back garden please Smile

We are getting one in southern UT. Asphalt pumptrack with an incredible concrete skate park in the center. Can not wait for completion! These guys are true artisans.

 Where in southern UT?

They built one of these where I live (Oklahoma city metro area) and they are way too much fun.

In all seriousness it would be good to get an understanding of the process to get one built as a public amenity. I would imagine though it would be a royal pain in the arse to get a council on board here in the UK.
  • 3 1
We got one built just last week up in Inverness www.moredirt.com/photo/91340

Speak to Architrail, they are building them all over the UK

The pump track in invermess is awesome. Being right next to the skate park, 2 miles from the mast dh runs and 1.5 miles from the mast dirt jumps makes that area of inverness world leading now. Even has crab apple type jumps up the mast and many enduro trails.
The cost for riding it all..... free.. only £3 for 1 hours lights after dark.

Depends on how much they have in their kitty, health and safety issues, what other applications the area already has and how many local cyclists, skaters, etc are keen enough to put some pressure on them. Having landscaped a few parks around the UK I know from experience there is too much bureaucracy, too many people milking the system getting positions like site managers. (a working project manager would suffice) Different councils will have slightly different ways and means of getting things done. In some cases there will also be landowners and or leases to deal with.

Keep the videos coming, they are all going into a presentation to our city so we can get one too.

Especially featuring kids/families! I can imagine that a lot of city officials hear "pump track" and imagine hooligans rampaging around town.

Come to Bulgaria,we need one of these so badly Smile
