Have Your Say on the Ever-Changing Bike Standards
Broadly speaking, "Standards" aren't going to happen in the modern bike industry but clear concise information sharing can, and attempting to synchronize that information ahead of a new product life cycle should be the goal. Giving the active and concerned players ( riders and retailers) the opportunity to be informed or get informed reduces unnecessary stress or harm in the marketplace. Diversity of options is absolutely a good thing, so many segments of cycling do require unbridled product development to ensure that discipline can reach for optimizing performance, durability and a positive user experience. As to the novel ideas of parts compatibility from bike to bike or road to CX to Mtn, those options are limited going forward and live in the rear view mirror. Without sounding too coachy, find your zone and be great at it, trying to keep up with brand xyz will most certainly bury your true talent. Say no when your gut says so, and dive deep when your heart is in it. The market will reward those who shine clearest. Good luck with the symposium.

Hope's HB.211 Enduro Racer Nears Production - Whistler Crankworx 2016
"As a result, its flush-mount headset, rear hub, cassette, crankset, rear axle, and its rear-wheel construction, are incompatible ????with off-the-shelf components from other makers." Lame idea, you can't limit riders options to a single brands component mix....it's lame and limiting, really bad at LBS because they'll need to special order all of those parts when needed, with a long lead-time, with you off your broken "systems bike", with no spares available locally, that's a trip killer, a week killer, certainly a buzz kill for your riding buddies who can't lend you a spare wheel, cassette, crank, HS bearing and on and on....

Jeff will be missed. An incredibly generous person, a passion driven sole, I am happy to have had the opportunity to share in his life. Ride endless wheelies in the clouds my friend.

1 Question - When is Change Worth It?
DW gets the #1 prize, and credit is long overdue to many of the bike industries product engineers who are NOT managed by the Marketing Depts. or out-of-touch Executives. It's not an easy business model these days, it's a wickedly complicated product eco-system that we're all involved in. But nobody is getting ripped off as we evolve the hardware, everyone just grab the ride that's best for you, then ride it to your full potential, that's doing your part to keep the sport healthy.
