Lauren's proven ability to relentlessly send it is only rivaled by her ability to increase the stoke level of any ride she's a part of. All smiles the whole time, high-fives are always in endless supply. Having lived in numerous mountain bike hot spots around California, her skills have been honed on a variety of terrain. From the decomposed granite of Mammoth Lakes to the rocky chutes of Thousand Oaks to the pristine loam of Santa Cruz to the loose chunder of the Tahoe regions - she sends it regardless of where she happens to be on any weekend.

Lauren has taken the adventurous leap into van life, spending the 2016 season driving from one race to the next and riding everywhere in between. Trailhead to trailhead, riding the best of what the west has to offer. Her Pro.File takes you through her race weekend routine of van camping, race prep and timed runs.

Lauren took 2nd place at the finale of the California Enduro Series in Mammoth Lakes, California. Topping it all off with an impressive 5th overall for the 2016 series! Being the 2014 California Enduro Series Champion, she's all too familiar with how the top spot feels and is already looking forward to the 2017 season!

As if chasing podiums wasn't time-consuming enough, Lauren devoted this year to launching a new lifestyle brand. Turn Loose is a brand fully committed to the focus of inspiring and supporting others in their endeavors. It provides high-quality apparel and adventure goods that people can feel good about purchasing, as a portion of profits are used to sponsor young up-and-coming athletes, as well as fund inspiring stories and projects. Next season, Turn Loose will be supporting a team of four young mountain bike athletes in the hopes of helping them jumpstart their riding careers.

yeaaah lovely lady, BUT LOOK AT THE VAAAAN!

This is possibly my favourite comment ever - after all the usual sexism on female dominated videos it's nice to see we can get through that and not just consider aesthetics... Oh, hang on... I'm perving on a van instead. Doh!
  • 22 0
Yeah i was really hoping for some details and pics of the van interior.

@raelx: There was an article about the van earlier this year.

@slimboyjim: Search for "ExpeditionPortal" and prepare for overload.

 @mdritop: nice one

@raelx: This is what you are looking for:

Now you can't help being envious... Smile

@slimboyjim: if anyone wants to start mitring out their van, let me know as I work for a company that makes the factory steel fixings for the insides of them, like you'd see in a Luton, or crafter from the factory for example to fix back to! Just shout and I'll assist!!!

@cunning-linguist: I think the missus might be a bit upset if I ran off leaving her with the kids... But I am tempted Smile

@slimboyjim: well once sorted you can safely tie her to the inside, always make some money renting her out whilst you hit the trails, safe in the knowledge she's not going anywhere. Win win Wink

Nice Van , I like mine way better...except the inside bike.. that's pretty cool.

Wow, that picture sitting in the woods drinking a cup of coffee! Big mistake to look at this before work. Frown
  • 7 0
My thoughts exactly. I don't know where I went wrong.
  • 19 9
@jgdblue: What's preventing you from doing the same? Most likely only fear. No matter the circumstances you could have the same lifestyle if you choose to. That's not to say you wouldn't have great sacrifices to do so, only that it's your choice not to, and there's nothing wrong with that. Many choose security and luxury over crapping in a bucket.
  • 36 1
 @Rasterman:

"Most likely only fear."

Ha ha, right. Most likely only keeping the job that I have so that I can keep a roof over my kids' heads, clothes on their backs and food on their plates. That's a little beyond making sacrifices so that I can "crap in a bucket".
  • 14 1
@jgdblue: thank you for saying it. I am so sick and tired of comments about fear being the reason people with a family "choose" to have a job that feedshe that family. The only people who are strapped by fear alone have no other people who look to them for the source of their sustenance. My guess is @rasterman has yet to have any responsibilities to anyone other than himself. I spent 10 years travelling with a surfboard and backpack, now stay home with my 3 hear old boy and beautiful preggo wife. Fear has nothing to do with why I don't strap my board onto a plane and fly back to North narrabeen...
  • 2 1
Amen....I'd love to push away from this desk, sell my house and live out of a van...but when one has responsibilities in life....
  • 4 0
@kickstand1: honestly, I wouldn't anymore. Unless I could bring my boy and his strider bike with me, I'm good staying closer to home and riding with him when I can. We also are super lucky on the island and have world class trails about 9 mins from here...
  • 4 0
@VwHarman: One more thing I forgot to add in addition to everything else...

I have to keep working to keep bikes under my kids!!!
  • 3 0
Well Chilla8, if it makes you feel any better at least you and I don't have to smile for the camera while sipping the coffee in the woods.
  • 6 0
@jgdblue and others: In one respect, he's wrong that it's "only fear." You have other factors to consider. On the other hand, he's right -- you could live the the same lifestyle if you CHOOSE to. It's about trade-offs. You choose not to pursue this van-in-the-woods lifestyle. You choose to provide for your kids and your family the best way you know how. Honestly, that's probably the best choice, and the one I made myself, but make no mistake, it is a choice, even if you feel it isn't.
  • 10 0
@VwHarman: Yes you do choose to have a job that feeds your family, it is a choice. Responsibilities are a choice, not an excuse, you could choose to abandon your responsibilities. I'm not saying that makes you a good person or is the right choice, IT IS YOUR CHOICE to stay obligated to your responsibilities. I think all would agree its a poor choice to abandon your family to have the lifestyle in the article, it doesn't make it any less of a choice. My point is if you think it's terrible where you are at, then start making the choices to be where you want to be.
  • 1 0
@jgdblue: You gave up riding 40 hours a week for a job.
  • 1 0
@VwHarman: I'm with you. Lucky for me the kid and the wife both love racing and riding.
  • 3 0
@TheR: I suppose it's a choice in the way that one "chooses" to wipe their assets after finishing in the loo. You don't have to and could choose to do otherwise, but your friends might not want to hang out as often. Honestly though, if I hadn't met someone I wanted to raise a family with, I likely would have continued chasing enjoyment that way and loved the shit out of it. I look at it as a progression that I react to more than choices I make. A hell of a lot of what happens to any of us is the result of the choices of others. But I suppose my somewhat obtuse philosophical bent was lost in my initial post. My bad. Also, sick vando.

 @Rasterman: Fear. True...

And the lure of eventual retirement. I totally want to retire someday. Wink
  • 3 0
@VwHarman: Narrabeen, New South Wales? There's some epic trails there nowadays to add to the surfing. Could be a good idea if you go ahead with it, the family included! Ride on brother!
  • 1 0
@jervis: good to hear! When I was there it was roughly 15 years ago and the gnarly trails we got directed to on the northern beaches were a bit of a let down. Gorgeous views, just rudimentary trails. Would love to come back and ride the trails then go get a pie!
  • 2 0
@VwHarman: Sounds basic! Here's a glimpse at the tip of the iceberg that is riding on the Northern Beaches today www.pinkbike.com/news/making-shadows-featuring-keiran-volk-video-2016.html
  • 1 0
@jervis: Sick! If that existed when I was there I sure didn't see it. Those trails look killer. Rented what we're then called all mountain bikes from a shop out towards manly a bit and the shop sent us for a scoot. Still loved hitting surf in trunks and a rashy after a ride. Enjoy and thanks for sharing those pics!
  • 1 0
@VwHarman: Bikes and trails have improved a fair bit since then, but riding then hitting the surf is a tradition that still wins every time. Not a problem! If you ever come back for a visit be sure to contact me through here or through the Sydney MTB Riders Facebook page!

Does anybody else find it a bit strange that Monster has trophy girls for a women's race? Don't know what I expected, but not that.
  • 7 1
they need to have some zoolander-esque trophy men for the women's race. then men can start complain about being sexualized. wait that will never happen. strange world
  • 8 0
I came here to say this, except more like, why are there "trophy girls" at any race, mens or womens? It is just simply outdated, sexist and trashy.
  • 1 1
I'm most confused by their halter tops
  • 14 0
Yeah I was really hoping for an mtb cribs
  • 8 0
Pretty sure it's time to do away with podium girls. They're such a weird concept for female racing events.
  • 2 0
I love awkward and uncomfortable. Guy in a thong and scarf handing Danny Hart the globe. Good times. Champagne. Podiums are for after carnage and bulges. Just ask the roadies.
  • 5 2
Such a rad rider and genuinely awesome person. Lauren's IG and social media is always on top and comes across as a great insight and reflection of her life. I sound like a total fan boy but to be honest she just comes across as a badass. Keep that shit up Wink

It's odd enough that we still parade women like candy on sports podiums. As if they're a prize for the victors. It's even more weird when women are on the podium. Go ahead, let your hormone fuelled adolescence neg prop me... It just seems weird

I'm building one right now, traded my truck off in September and been building since, it's going to be sweet for traveling!!!

The smiles say it all, girls having fun, more ladies riding mtb the better. Best wishes

She seems to be doing nearly everything right. It is one thing to get good results. To also have the lifestyle dialed makes her a downright rolemodel to any young rider (dude or girl) trying to figure out how to make a living as a rider.

Just that slackline. Seems like that upper line only teaches you bad manners (having to duck etc). Just walk on a single line. Coming off isn't too bad if you keep it low enough.

 Go Lauren! Killing it.
  • 2 0
I am surprised by one thing about the van. No side awning. As much money has gone into it and not even a $300 ARB roll out for shade.
  • 2 0
I love how she describes Mammoth as "just technical enough." I would be afraid to see what she considers technically challenging.

 dream life ! Wink

I get so jealous every time I see her van.
  • 3 1
Dude she is a fucking boss on the bike. I've only seen a few of her videos, but she can ride.
  • 5 1
 She needs to ditch Fuji!
  • 2 0
Nah, if they're paying her, all the better.

I saw your van there at Mammoth. Then I broke my arm. I'll be killing Mammoth next year - love that crazy place, too.

I think about quiting my job and selling everything on a daily basis to pursue the van and ride lifestyle. She is living it up while she can for sure!
