Whistler. A dream that I was able to accomplish during the summer of 2016, after renouncing my work as an aeronautical mechanical engineer and a physics teacher in France.

Being 100% unsponsored, no filmmaker took me seriously when I wanted to make a video in the bike park. So my wife bought a DSLR for my 30th birthday and we started filming and editing by ourselves, without any real prior experience.

Xavier Barneto

After four months of work, I have a new passion, and here is the result!

Aeronautical engineer? You'll be the perfect barista!! Welcome to whistler.

Hahaha! He's from France, not Australia or NZ, so that counts him out. Wink

wtf man, aeronautical mechanical engineer, a physics teacher & being that rowdy on a mountain bike.

What am I doing with my life.

 Hell yeah engineer !!!
  • 24 0
Damn! For no filming/editing experience that was pretty spot on! Riding was awesome as well. Looking forward to more edits!

It's pretty obvious he's an amateur film-maker. That horizontal wipe at the end should have obviously been a star wipe. As homer says "Why eat hamburger when you can have steak!"

Sweet skills and nice filming - more please!

 good wife!sounds like a keeper!

You should praise the Lord for giving you a wife spending all those hours filming with you in the park. Impressing stuff lad... and of course Lady Barneto.

Xavier, nice edit and even nicer riding. I'll be showing this to my videography students for sure when we work on adventure filmmaking.

Wow thanks that's a great compliment for me!

@xavierbarneto: If you're up for it and you happen to be in the Surrey area (30 min East of Van), DM me and we could bring you out to talk to my students about the process getting to this point. And watch the vid, of course.

@rrolly: I would love to, but I'm not in Canada anymore....next summer maybe!

He sure knows a lot about bike dynamics, damn I should have picked mechanical as my engineering degree! Keep the edits coming!

Wow solid edit! Question about filming on the mountain... assuming your wife wasn't also riding, how does that work? Does she hike up the trails? Or chairlift up without a bike and walk down?
  • 17 0
My wife is a downhill rider too, the truth is that she was riding downhill before me haha, my first DH bike was her previous bike! Of course I have filmed her too and I am editing her video, it will be online in a couple of days!

@xavierbarneto: Awesome, be great to do a video of husband and wife tearing up the trails together!
  • 5 0
That was awesome. Myself and a couple of mates have just booked up to go, we wont look anything like this on the trails however....

Looks like quality time spent as a couple. Nice edit.

Looks to me like he's still an aeronautical engineer! Or is it "air-o-nautical" now?
  • 2 0
This looks insane dude! what camera did you use? recently got myself a drone and also discovered a passion for edits like this, this is real good thou! im hopefully looking to book the summer gravity camp a whistler this year
  • 1 0
Thanks man, we used a canon 80d with a sigma 17/70 2,8 lens, Drone is my next purchase!
  • 2 0
@xavierbarneto: Nice setup, I'm running an 80D as well! Hope to get a 1D-X for the 4K capability but that won't be happening any time soon.

Also, fantastic edit for just picking up a camera this year.

Renounced? So the plan is to be a pro MTBer? Well although I think it's a bit of a shame that areas as important as aeronautical engineering & physics classes take a hit, your understanding of such things appears to come in very handy here & is a welcome interruption to all the Volkswagen advertisements.

You gots some mad skills! Awesome vid too!
  • 1 0
Love the fact there's little slo mo or the same thing from 3 angles. Especially the rail gap, just one normal speed shot with no build up and that's it.

Bonne chance, Xavier! You're doing all the right things with your life!

I'll pay you more than you earned as an engineer if you can teach me to whip like that!
  • 2 0
You don't have to pay me man... for example, if you want to whip right side :
-turn slightly right while starting the ramp
- at the end of the ramp LEAN THE BIKE LEFT SIDE while turning to the left
-this will start your whip early, you can increase the move by twisting your body, extending legs to the right and bringing the handlebar to the left
-if you start early that will be way easier to bringit back while doing everything in reverse
-it can sometimes be good to overshoot the landing or land front wheel first so you have more airtime to bring that rear wheel back

Start gently, don't force it , it's all about flow! Have fun practicing!

 all time bike park riding!!
  • 1 0
You're right dude! But my wife was already soooo cool to spend all this time filming in the bikepark using he chairlift. That would have almost be a shame to make her walk up another mountain! Hopefully I will find someone to film some big mountain freeride this year!
